3D SPORTS NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE

KENDAL MOVE BACK TO THE TOP

Gerry Wolstenholme

By dint of victory over Barrow at the Ernest Pass Memorial Ground, Kendal moved back to the top of the 3D Northern Premier League table. Leaders Netherfield and second-placed Darwen were washed out at Birch Hall so took four points each while Morecambe's win over Fleetwood moved them into second place.

Kendal batted first against Barrow and made a modest 157 all out but this proved 100 runs too many for a hapless Barrow side who were bowled out for just 57. Terry Hunte top scored for Kendal with 53 and he was supported by Ikram Ullah, 26, Tony Yasin, 25, and Kevin Howarth 21 as Justin Quint took 5-53 and Pasan Wanasinghe 4-73 for Barrow. Daryl Wearing put in an economic spell of 14 overs that earned him 1-17. Barrow succumbed to Howarth whose 6-14 came in 7.5 overs and there were two wickets each for Stuart Parkin and Chris Miller, for 15 and 10 runs respectively. Robin Adams was the only Barrow batsman to reach double figures as he made 20, the next best being nine from Wanasinghe and Iain Kermode. Thereafter came extras with six!

Morecambe won by one wicket as they chased Fleetwood's 120 all out and it was the last wicket pair of Graham Lee (once again), 12 not out, and Jono Gates, three not out, who came together at 105-9 who took them to victory at 121-9, of which Coetsee made 73 before ninth out when he was run out. For Fleetwood, the in-form Michael Clinning made 44 but James Ellis's 15 was the next best effort with Adam Breakell making 14 not out, John Wright 12 and Tom Wilson 11 as Gareth Peddar took 4-46, Coetsee 3-32 and Lee 2-17. For Fleetwood, both Kyle Smit and Clinning had 3-46 and Tom Blundell had 2-26.

Carnforth made 240 against Leyland and then bowled their visitors out for 224 to achieve victory by 16 runs. Atiq Uz Zaman made 100 for Carnforth and he was supported by 44 each from Ryan Nelson and Ben Hornby as Ameer Khan took 7-74 from 15.4 overs. Khan then made 42 when Leyland replied but it was Chris Parkinson, 75, and Peter Cummings, 47, who helped Leyland get near their target. John Denwood, 4-50, Irfan Fazil, 4-86, and Ben Hornby, 2-10, shared the Leyland wickets.

St Annes won a high scoring game at Vernon Road where Chorley, thanks to Stephen John's 103 not out and Josh Tolley's 90, made 240-3 in their 50 overs. Adrian Darlington, 35, and Gareth Evans, 38, set up St Annes' reply, which was finished off by Ian Austin, 82 not out, and Shane Harwood, 70 not out as they won by eight wickets with 241-2.

Preston and Lancaster drew at West Cliff where Preston made 172 to which Lancaster replied with 154-9. Sajid Patel top scored for Preston with 80 while Bilal Asad made 43 and Pip McDonald 17 as Danny Milligan got his second five-wicket haul of the season with 5-48 and Iain Burstow took 3-43. Montcin Hodge then made 46 for Lancaster for whom Michael Stevens made 23, Michael Walling 20 and Tim Barry 15 as Asad had 4-32 and Rhys Williams 3-43.
