Apologies for the lateness of my weekend review; due to some score cards not being input I can only give you brief information from some of the games. I will expand on this as more of the scorecards are input.

It was an electric start to the 2013 Northern Cricket League campaign, with some surprise results as well as some outstanding individual performances.

Here is a round up of all the league action from a busy opening day.

DIVISION 1:

Fleetwood v Barrow

It was the battle of last season's winners against the runners up of the division at Broadwater as Barrow came out on top by 10 runs in a low scoring game.

Barrow who had Travis Townsend as their sub professional were put into bat by the 2012 champions, and were bowled out for 107 in 42.5 over's.

Ryan Brown the top scorer with 34 off 59 balls, as Fleetwood's New Professional Ian Holland made an instant impact returning figures of 4-47. Naveed Yousaf also impressing with figures of 3-13.

With a below par total to chase Fleetwood struggled as Barrow whittled the hosts out for 97 in just 31.2 over's.

Sub Professional Travis Townsend (3-30) and Nicky Burns with (3-13), the main contributors as Barrow get off to a great start to the season.

St Annes v Netherfield

Netherfield came away with a winning draw in a dramatic encounter at St Annes, The game which went to the last ball was a fantastic game against two sides that are sure to be challenging at the top end of the division.

The hosts winning the toss and putting Netherfield in as the visitors were all out for 164 in 49.5 over's as South African Professional Colin Ackermann made an instant impact top scoring with 83 off 96 balls. His knock included 10 fours and 3 sixes.

St Annes New Professional Toby Bulcock was electric with the ball as he ripped through Netherfields batting line up with figures of 8-50. New recruit Lukman Vahaluwala claimed 2-37.

In reply, the hosts fell just 1 run short reaching 163-9, Matthew Taffe with 47 gave the hosts a steady start then. Toby Bulcock 35 and Neil Bradley 31 lead the charge for victory. However Netherfield denied them at the last ball with Ryan Wilson taking 4-53 and Colin Ackermann returned figures of 3-36.

Leyland v Morecambe:

Leyland defeated Morecambe by 5 wickets at Fox Lane, the visitors restricted to 141-7, Ryan Pearson the top scorer with 33 off 91 balls.

Leyland Captain David Makinson taking 3-27, whilst Luis Reece (2-27) and Dale Jones (2-36) also impressed.

In reply Luis Reece eased Leyland home hitting an unbeaten 71 off 123 , Reece who turned pro during the off season impressed throughout as Leyland reached 145-5 off 40 over's.

Darwen v Lancaster:

Lancaster's Sub professional Pieter Malan made a stunning impact for Ben Simms side as he hit a top scoring 122, as Lancaster picked up a winning draw at Birch Hall.

The visitors posting a commanding score of 190-7,Darwen's Chris Wade returning figures of 5-71.

In reply Darwen reached 173-8, Sub Professional Clinton Perrin with 38 runs, whilst Lancaster's Liam Moffat impressed returning figures of 4-46.

Preston v Blackpool:

Blackpool defeated Preston by 77 runs at West Cliff, Steven Croft with an unbeaten 128, with Blackpool declaring on 183-4 off 42 over's.

Steven Croft completed an all round performance by taking 3-14 and Richard Gleeson with 4-28, and despite Yasin Patel's best efforts with a knock of 60, Preston were all out for 106.

Kendal v Chorley:

Chorley picked up a surprise 58 run victory at Kendal, Skipper Andrew Holdsworth's 51 guided Chorley to 154-8.

In reply Kendal despite starting well at 14-0, they were bowled out for 96, Gaurav Dhar taking 8-35.

The Preston v Lancashire Colts game was abandoned due to persistent rain fall.

DIVISION 2:

Morecambe v Leyland:

Defending Champions Leyland suffered a surprise setback as they lost by 1 wicket at Morecambe.

Leyland all out for 55 in 24.2 overs, Morecambes Ayush Sharma (4-15) and Jake Smith (3-16), doing the most damage.

In reply Morecambe squeezed home at 58-9 in 25.4 over's, Will Jacques taking 6-28.

Barrow v Fleetwood:

Barrow's 2nds started their season on a winning note after a 141 run home victory over Fleetwood. Peter Deeks hitting a top scoring 65 as Barrow posted a competitive total of 191-7.

Ian Allington also contributing with 35, Whilst Fleetwood's Thomas Buschini returned figures of 3-18.

In reply Fleetwood were all out for 50 in 22.3 overs, Patrick Allington returning figures of 3-3.

Joseph Allington (2-7), Ciaran Dawes (2-19), George Joshua Allington (1-6) and Liam Walker (1-2) all contributing.

Blackpool v Preston:

Blackpool comfortably overcame Preston by 9 wickets at Stanley Park, Ash Moreau with figures of 4-19 and Sam Owen with figures of 3-7 as Preston were all out for 62 in 39.2 over's.

In reply Blackpool eased home in 15 over's reaching 63-1, Matthew Houston with 31 off 31 balls.

Netherfield v St Annes

St Anne's made light of work of Netherfield as they came away from Parkside Road with a 9 wicket win.

Netherfield put into bat and dismissed for 49 in just 23.2 over's. Richard Thomas with figures of 6-8.

In reply St Anne's eased home in 10.4 over's, Charles Boucher with 23 and Mark Emsley with 22 no, as they reached 52-1.

Lancaster v Darwen:

Darwen came away from Lancaster with a winning draw, the visitors opening with a total of 168-8. Gary Jackson with a top scoring knock of 55.

In reply Danny Welbournes knock of 54 was the main resistance for Lancaster, with Graham Ainslie taking 3-31, as Lancaster reached 131-9.

Chorley v Kendal:

Chorley picked up 15 points with a 60 run victory over Kendal, Kieran McCullagh with 41 as Chorley set Kendal a score of 169 - 6

Kendal's Michael Dugdale taking 3-38, in reply Kendal were all out for 109 in 33.2 over's, Ian Oakes with figures of 6-28 and Kieran McCullagh with figures of 3-18.
