DIVISION ONE

Barrow were stunned by Morecambe, as both Leyland and Fleetwood close in, after another afternoon of high drama in the Northern Cricket League.

Barrow v Morecambe

There was a massive shock for the league leaders as they crashed to a 48 run home defeat to Morecambe.

Morecambe came into the game, with the news that Lewis Edge had resigned as captain and Mark Woodhead would replace him for the rest of the season.

Barrow were seemingly confident after restricting Morecambe to 139-9 off 50 overs. Gary Collins taking 3-45, Jonathan Wells 2-23, Patrick Allington 2-41 and Daryl Wearing 1-22 also taking wickets.

Josh Dixon was Morecambe's top scorer with 48 off 138 balls

In reply Barrow collapsed as Morecambe's Yakub Bhamji ripped through their line up taking 7-26. A performance which saw the hosts bowled out for 91 in just 27 overs.

Ryan Brown 25 off 38 balls and Nicky Burns 24 off 44 balls offering brief rest bite for the League Leaders.

Leyland v Chorley

Leyland are now just 7 points behind Barrow after a comfortable 9 wicket home win over Chorley.

Chorley were bowled out in 38.2 overs for 122. Andrew Griffiths scoring a half century with 50 off 57 balls with Tayyab Afsar 4-25 David Makinson 3-21 the main wicket takers for Leyland

Leyland knocked the runs off in style, Luis Reece fresh from playing for Lancashire scored 58 off 96 balls and Henry Thompson unbeaten with 39 off 111, Leyland racing to 123-1 in 37.2 overs.

Fleetwood v St Annes

Fleetwood are now just 13 points off the top after an easy 10 wicket win over St Annes at Broadwater.

Sam Bell with 6-34 and Ian Holland 4-58 dismissed St Annes for 106 in 28.2 overs.

The defending Champions needed only 17.5 overs to reach 106-0, Adam Parker 70no off 44 balls and Mike Clinning 29no off 64 balls.

Netherfield v Lancaster

Lancaster's fantastic season goes from strength to strength following a 7 wicket win at Netherfield.

Netherfield won the toss and decided to bat making 199-9 in their 50 overs. Ben Barrow with 51 off 115 balls and Marc Brown with 46 off 56 balls their main run makers

In reply Lancaster impressed, as Jamie Heywood 45 off 85 balls and Charlie Swarbrick 36 off 42 balls, put the visitors in a strong position.

However it was the unbeaten 51 off 85 balls by Professional Jannisar Kahn and the 49 off 63 by Danny Welbourne put Lancsaster in sight of victory with Lee Sparks hitting the winning runs as Lancaster reached 200-3 in 47.2 overs.

Preston v Kendal

Kendal eased to a 5 wicket win at Preston. Preston were all out for 108 in 39.1 overs. Chris Miller with 3-22, Adam Cowperthwaite 2-24, Jack White 1-16, and Sub Professional Pieter Malan 2-24 sharing the wickets

The visitors needed only 27.5 overs to reach 111-5, Pieter Malan scoring 44 off 50 balls.

Blackpool v Darwen

Blackpool got the better of a winning draw with Darwen at Stanley Park. Captain Paul Danson made an unbeaten 82 off 99 balls as the hosts closed on 175-6.

Darwen were 147-8 in reply, Ammer Mirza with 48 off 113 balls,and John Cordingley with 42 off 64 balls the main Darwen run makers.

The Blackpool wicket takers were Ash Moreau with 3-52, Andy Furniss 2-17, Ben Eckton 2-12 and Stephen Twist with 1-2.

Division Two (2nd XI)

Division 2 Round Up:

Only two points now separate Barrow and St Annes in the race for the Division Two crown, whilst Leyland, Morecambe and Darwen stay in touch.

St Annes v Fleetwood

Fleetwood got a winning draw at St Annes, the visitors posting a score of 219-7, Ryan Smith making 61 off 37 balls. and Tom Bolus taking 2-54 for St Annes

St Annes were 174-5 after their 45 overs, both David Bartholomew 41 off 65 balls, and Thomas Bradley 41 off 50 balls were not out at the end

Tom Wilson 2-16 and Kieran McGann 2-18 had the best bowling figures for the visitors.

Morecambe v Barrow

Barrow lost at Morecambe by 4 wickets, Ian Allington's team all out for 145 in 43 overs, Joshua Allington with 36 off 44 balls.

Jono Gates 5-24 and Irfan Quyyam with 4-41 doing the damsge for the hosts

Morecambe edging home with 146-6, Gulam Maje unbeaten on 20 and Stuart Ellington with an unbeaten 24 off 28 balls seeing Morecambe home. Ian Allington taking 3-15 for the leaders.

Lancaster v Netherfield

The battle at the bottom end of the table, ended up with a winning draw for Netherfield.

Netherfield were put in and they closed on 200-5, Brad Earl with an unbeaten 67,Steve Wilson 36 and Dan Gaunt with an unbeaten 26 were the main run makers

Lancaster reached their winning total of 190-7, Joe Atkinson with 70 and Tom Williamson with 67 the main contributers to their victory. Netherfield's Brad Airey 2-45 and Chesney Walling 2-26 were the pick of the bowlers.

Kendal v Preston

Kendal won a high scoring encounter with Preston by 9 wickets at Shap Road. Nick Phillips the star of the show for the hosts, taking 5-33 as Preston scored 206-9 in their allotted overs.

Phillips then top scoring with 63 off 84 balls in reply, with Darren Nightingale scoring 49 off 66, with Kendal reaching their target of 208-6 in 43.5 overs

Tanvir Bukhari taking 3-58 for the visitors.

Darwen v Blackpool

Darwen got the winning draw with Blackpool at Birch Hall, the hosts closing on 171-8. Andrew Brown top scoring with 77. amd Blackpool's Jamie Thomson taking 4-30.

Tom Jefferson with 57 in lead the Blackpool reply, with Darwen captain Andrew Cook taking 4-20 as Blackpool reached 133-8 at the close of play

Chorley v Leyland

Leyland keep up the pressure at the top end of the league after a 5 wicket win at Chorley.

Chorley made 178-8, Stuart Naden made 55 for Chorley and Alex Williams taking 4-49 for the defending champions.

Leyland edging home to 179-5 in 41.3 overs thanks to Thomas Murray unbeaten on 63 and James Rounding top scoring with 68
