Blackpool edge closer to glory as Leyland slip up in a pivotal afternoon of Northern Cricket League action

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool v Preston:

Christi Viljeon passed 100 wickets for the season as Blackpool closed in on the Northern League title, after defeating Preston by 5 wickets.

Preston batting first were all out for 113 in 46 overs, Christi Viljeon 4-32, Richard Gleeson 3-24, Steven Mercer 2-24 and Joshua Boyne with 1-9.

Sajid Patel's unbeaten 57 off 134 balls offering stubborn resistance at Stanley Park.

In reply Blackpool got over the line in 31.3 overs, closing on 116-5. Andy Furniss with an unbeaten 52 off 87 balls.

Chorley v Netherfield:

A heavy downpour of rain during the second innings wiped out the game between Chorley and Netherfield. The rain flooded the outfield meaning no more play was possible.

Chorley will be frustrated as they were on top in the game, the hosts posting 187-5 off 50 overs. David Fisher with 82 off 151 balls and Andrew Holdsworth 43 gave Chorley a good start then backed up by Ian Dickinson with an unbeaten 44 off 51 balls. Brad Earl returning figures of 3-3 for the visitors.

In reply Netherfield were in trouble on 16-3 as Ben Philips, Marc Brown and Saliya Saman all fell, with Keiran McCullagh taking 2 of the 3 wickets. However the rain swept in as both sides take 4 points each.

Darwen v Leyland:

Leyland suffered what could be a massive blow in their quest to retain the Northern League title after losing a rain reduced contest by 6 wickets at Darwen.

The league holders batting first were restricted to 188-8 off 50 overs, Chris Parkinson with 65 and Luis Reece with 45. John Cordingley returning figures of 5-59.

In reply Darwen had a reduced target to chase following a downpour of rain as they knocked off 158-4 off 34.4 overs. Chris Clarke with an unbeaten 70 guiding his side to a huge win.

Kendal v Fleetwood

It was a good afternoon for Kendal as they defeated Fleetwood by 8 wickets at Shap Road. Fleetwood started the game well racing to 106-4, however a collapse saw them all out for 159 in 45.5 overs. Nick Lewthwaite with figures of 5-42. Adam Parker batting well for 45 off 58 balls.

Kendal raced home in 33 overs, closing on 160-2, Jamie How with an unbeaten 85 off 78, whilst Terry Hunte chipped in with an unbeaten 37 off 36 balls.

Lancaster v Barrow:

Lancaster had a good afternoon with a very useful 30 run victory over Barrow at Lune Road. Lancaster were bowled out for 168 in 49.1 overs. Graham Dawes with 3-33 and Daryl Wearing with figures of 3-47. Charlie Swarbrick top scoring with 49 for Ben Simm's team.

Barrow were all out for 138 in 38.3 overs. 3 wickets by Matthew Liver, Ben Simm and Tom Whitehouse doing the job for the hosts. Barrow professional Kaustubh Pawar who scored 40 battled in vain to steer his side to victory.

St Annes v Morecambe:

St Annes knocked off a reduced target of 148 due to the rain as they defeated Morecambe by 2 wickets.

Morecambe all out for 160 in 43.3 overs, Kelly Smuts with 74 off 95 balls. Matthew Grindley returning figures of 6-42.

St Annes chasing down the reduced target of 148, Lukman Vahaluwala with 58 off 65 balls putting St Annes in a strong position before a middle order collapse before Mikey Haring 14no and David Watson 11no with a partnership of 29 saw St Annnes home. Kelly Smuts returning figures of 5-84 for Morecambe.


Sunday 31st August League

St Annes v Lancashire Colts

St Annes won the toss and invited the Colts to bat. The Colts made 113 in 47.2 overs due to the efforts of Toby Bulcock taking 7-29 in 15 overs.

In reply St Annes had a disastrous start losing both openers for a duck. Lukman Vahaluwala was joined by captain Nathan Armstrong and they put St Annes in a strong position when Lukman was out for 34.
A mini collapse followed but the captain saw his side home being 54 unbeaten at the close with St Annes 116 - 6.

Division Two Round Up

Barrow v Kendal:

Barrow defeated Lancaster by 7 wickets at Ernest Pass. Lancaster were all out for 142 in 44.5 overs. B Roden returning figures of 4-13.

Peter Deeks top scoring with 81 and Ryan Gilmour with 36 saw Barrow coast home in 38 overs, closing on 146-3.

Leyland v Darwen:

Leyland took a winning draw against Darwen. Leyland closing on 134-8. Sam Oldham with 35 and Ian Farrington with an unbeaten 35. Ronald Nairey returning figures of 4-28.

Darwen were on 32-4 off 19.2 overs before the rain wiped out the game. Sifton Prince with 2 wickets for the hosts.

Morecambe v St Annes:

The match was abandoned without a ball being bowled

Netherfield v Chorley:

Netherfield get the full 15 points after defeating Chorley by 50 runs at Parkside Road. Netherfield posting 160-7. Craig Walmsley with 58 with good support from Liam Dugdale with 33.

Dan Gaunt batting well for 31, whilst Scott Clement scored an unbeaten 21. Ian Oakes had figures of 3-34 for the visitors.

Chorley were all out for 110 in 36.2 overs. Matt Clinton returning figures of 5-28. Joe Barker (!7) and Richard Flood (18) offering some stubborn resistance for the visitors.

Preston v Blackpool:

Blackpool made light work of Preston winning by 7 wickets at West Cliff. Preston were all out for 49 in 35.3 overs. Ben Eckton,Matthew Middlehurst,Jake Muncaster,Sam Owen and Michael Tidmas with 2 wickets each. Tom Jefferson's 28 guiding the visitors home in 12.3 overs.

Sunday 31st August

Fleetwood v Kendal at Fylde CC

Fleetwood won the toss and decided to bat. They started well with an opening partnership of 45 then there was a collapse and they were all out for 94. Nick Wall 25, Joe Bell 23 and Joseph Davis were the only players to reach double figures.

In Reply Kendal were crusing to victory at 85 - 1 when a mini collapse occurred leaving Kendal 88 - 5. Opners Darren Nightingale 72 and Paul Dodds 21 were both out but Lewis Richardson 8no and Shane Hyland saw them home
