Morecambe and Darwen win, Blackpool draw

It was a dramatic afternoon of action in the Northern Premier Cricket League as Morecambe remain top. There were three centuries in the Blackpool and Leyland game and Preston's woes continue with defeat against Darwen.

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool v Leyland

It was a dramatic afternoon at Stanley Park as three centuries were scored in a high scoring encounter which saw Leyland come away with a winning draw.

Blackpool struck early when Chris Parkinson was bowled by Declan Fisher for 5 with the score on 16.

Richardt Frenz joined Luis Reece and the pair with a partnership of 194 took the score to 210 when Luis Reece was out caught by Joshua Boyne of Steven Mercer for 106 off 117 balls and hitting 11 fours.

Richardt Frenz remained unbeaten on 117 off 131 balls including 11 fours and 1 six with Henry Thompson 22 took the score to 264 - 4 after their 50 overs.

Blackpool's reply got off to a bad start being 14-2 when Christi Viljoen came to the wicket and with Tom Jefferson they took the score to 60 when Jefferson was out for 27.

Viljoen dominated the Blackpool innings, Stephem Twist was his next partner and they took the total to 80 before Twist was out for 12. Andy Furniss joined Viljoen and they had a partnership of 49 before Funiss was out for 19.

Joshua Boyne replaced Furniss and the partnership with Viljoen was 53 when Boyne was out for 12.

With Blackpool 182-7 Viljoen went on the attack and was next out for 143 off 146 balls including 14 fours and 3 sixes.

Ben Howarth 5 no and Declan Fisher 0no saw the innings out and Blackpool closed on 241-9.

Leyland used 9 bowlers in their efforts to force the win and Henry Thompson was their main wicket taker with figures of 4-43.

Morecambe v Fleetwood

Morecambe take a stranglehold at the top of Division One after picking up a huge 7 wicket win over title hopefuls Fleetwood at Woodhill Lane.

Fleetwood were restricted to 189-6 off 50 overs, The Morecambe bowlers made the Fleetwood batsmen work for their runs. Adam Parker made 22 off 40 balls, Michael Clinning 12 off 34 and Dean Bell 37 off 48.

The innings was held together by an unbeaten 79 off 101 balls by Tom Wilson which enabled Fleetwood to finish on a respectable total.

Eddie Read took 2-99 off 20 overs and Suraj Randiv 2-47 off his 20 overs with Jamie Cassidy taking 1-31 off 10,

Morecambe had a disastrous start losing captain Josh Dixon in the first over.

The Morecambe professional Suraj Randiv came to the wicket and with Gareth Pedder dominated the Fleetwood bowling.

The introduction of Michael Clinning into the attack gave Fleetwood a glimmer of hope with the wicket Randiv out for 52 off 59 balls including 10 fours followed by Ryan Pearson for 2.

However Lewis Edge with Pedder saw Morecambe home on 192-2 in 32 overs. Gareth Pedder was 108 not out off 91 balls, 80 of his runs coming in boundaries 17 fours and 2 sixes, Lewis Edge was 22 no

Michael Clinning had 2-29 off 8 overs.

Netherfield v Lancaster

Netherfield overcame Lancaster by 5 wickets at Parkside Road.

Lancaster made a steady start and reached 37 when Jamie Heywood was trapped LBW by Ryan Wilson for 10. His opening partner Alex Metcalfe suffered the same fate 1 run later out LBW for 22 to Dieter Klein.

There followed a 35 run partnership between Charlie Swarbrick and Rameez Raja before Swarbrick was out for 14. Raja's next partner was Samuel Moorby and they took the score to 132 when Moorby was out for 20.

Rameez Raja was 8 th out on 208 for 109 off 132 balls scoring 10 fours and 3 sixes. Ben Simm with 19 saw Lancaster to 232 all out in 50 overs.

Nathan Chambers ripped out the middle order and finished with 5-44 off 10 overs.

In reply Netherfield had to recover from a bad start when Rick Potter was bowled for 1 by Liam Moffat. Ben Barrow and Marc Brown set the game up taking the score to 86 when Barrow was out for 27.

Marc Brown was out for 79 off 96 balls with the total on 129, John Huck was joined by Joe Atkinson and they had a partnership of 77 when Atkinson was out for 33 off 42 balls.

John Huck was unbeaten on 79 off 56 balls which included 6 fours and 6 sixes. as Netherfield closed on 233-5 in 45.5 overs with young Tom Williamson winning the game by hitting a big six to seal what is only Netherfield's third home League win of the season.

Ben Simm was the best of the Lancaster bowlers with 3-68.

Penrith v Kendal

It was a strange game at Tynefield Park as both Penrith and Kendal only had ten players .It was a game which Penrith won with ease by 7 wickets.

A very much weakened Kendal side which had 5 of its regular first team missing, were bowled out for just 99 in 30.3 overs. Saeed Bariwala top scored with 34 Paul Hindmarch ripped through the Kendal innngs and finished with figures of 6-47.

In reply Penrith closed the game with relative ease closing on 100-3 in 21.5 overs.

Paul Hindmarch unbeaten on 30 off 24 balls and Alex Atkinson unbeaten on 24 off 34 balls saw Penrith home.

Preston v Darwen

Darwen won a low scoring encounter as they saw off Preston by 5 wickets at West Cliff.

Preston won the toss and elected to bat and were bowled out in 38.4 overs for 49.

Darwen Sub professional Daniel Salpietro returned figures of 5-17 and David Bowden weighed in with figures of 3-12.

In reply it may have only taken Darwen 12.1 overs for victory but they had to work for the runs, as Preston battled taking 5 wickets.

Afzal Kapadia returning figures of 3-25. Darwen saw the game home through David Bowden unbeaten on 16. Darwen closing on 50-5.

St Annes v Barrow

Barrow picked up a much needed win as they won by 86 runs at St Annes.

Barrow were asked to bat and after the early loss of Dean Williams for 2 Tharanga Paraanavitana and Sam Dutton put Barrow in control of the game.

On 52 Paranavitana was out brilliantly caught by Matthew Grindley off the bowling of Adam Holt. Sam Dutton soon followed for 72 off 67 balls caught by Mathew Taaffe off Mitchell Bolus

Christopher D'Leny 40 and captain Toby Mowat 10 and 10 from Ryam Gilmour saw Barrow all out on the last ball for 210

Adam Holt had figures of 4-50 off 12 overs and Matthew Grindley 3-51 off 18.

In reply St Annes had a good start with openers Adam Holt 34 and Andy Kellett 20 when Gary Collins was introduced into the attack. He was in scintillating form and returned with figures of 8-45 as St Annes were all out for 124 in 44.4 overs. Matthew Taaffe going in at no 3 not out on 22

Division Two

Division 2 Round Up:

Netherfield win a close game at Lancaster to remain top. Leyland and St Annes also win.

Barrow v St Annes

St Annes kept up the pressure at the top thanks to an 89 run win at Barrow,

St Annes were 143-7 off 45 overs thanks to David Bartholomew with 33 and Paul Wilks with 33.

Jordan Nicholson took 3 of the first four batsmen and finished with 3-23.

In reply Barrow were bowled out for 54 Richard Thomas 3-22 and Kevin Reid 3-5 doing the damage.

Darwen v Preston

Darwen defeat Preston by 53 runs at Birch Hall.

Darwen were asked to bat and were in trouble but Nathan Jackson with 56 steadied the ship and Mark Bennett coming in at no 8 with an unbeaten 48 saw Darwen reach 177-8.

Omer Sabir returned figures of 4-47 off his twelve overs.

Preston were all out for 124 in 44 overs with Moshin Patel 46 and Mustafa Durrani 30 leading the Preston fight.

Greg Lawrenson took 3-33 with Chris Crompton and Nathan Jackson taking 2 wickets.

Fleetwood v Morecambe

Morecambe saw off Fleetwood by 3 wickets, Fleetwood closed on 193-7 off their 45 overs, Joseph Davies with 50 top scored supported by Mark Wilkinson 40 Joe Bell 27 and Andy Singleton 23.

Opening bowler Uzair Shah took 3-45, and David Derham 3-22.

Opening batsman Gulam Maje with an unbeaten 94 guided Morecambe to victory on 194-7 in 44 overs supported by Muhammed Patel with 36.

Kendal v Penrith

Penrith defeated Kendal by 36 runs, Penrith recovered from 59-5 thanks to Mark Osborne 47 and Jamie O'Brien with 44 to reach 139 all out in 42 overs.

Lewis Richardson took three of the first four wickets to fall and finished with figures of 5-29.

Kendal in reply collapsed from 73-2 before being bowled out for 103 in 27.2 overs.

Lewis Richardson top scored with 40 and Jamie O'Brien with 7-31 destroyed Kendal.

Lancaster v Netherfield

Netherfield were made to work for the win as they defeated Lancaster by 77 runs at Lune Road.

This result keeps Netherfield out in front at the top of Division Two.

Netherfield batting first declared in the 41st over on 205-7 thanks to Matthew Atkinson 53, Matthew Goodall 45. James Park Johnson with 48 and Marc Hadwin with 20.

In reply Lancaster lost an early wicket then Matthew Liver replied with an unbeaten 74 and Philip Sparrow 55 to give Lancaster hope.

When Sparrow was out caught and bowled by Liam Dugdale the innings collapsed and Ethan Markland with 10 was the only batsman to reach double figures.

4-18 by Marc Hadwin and 4-30 by Liam Dugdale saw Lancaster all out for 178 in 44.4 overs.

Leyland v Blackpool

Leyland remain second after defeating Blackpool by 8 wickets.

Leyland won the toss and invited Blackpool to bat. They were all out for 84 in 35 overs with Joel Watson at no 9 top scorer with 25, only Ciaran Johnson 17 and Adrian Darkington 16 reached double figures.

Steven Pallett demolished the top order with 4-20 in 12 overs supported by Ross Bretherton 2-16 and Eliot Boardman 2-12.

Leyland racied home in 28.3 overs closing on 86-2 with Lloyd Tenant unbeaten on 41 and Ross Bretherton unbeaten on 30.
