Morecambe's Phillip Denison on the attack

The second round of The Northern Cricket League saw another exciting afternoon, despite the rain, with Fleetwood going top of the early season table.

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool v Penrith

Defending League Champions Blackpool were held to a winning draw with Penrith at Stanley Park. The game rain reduced to 46 overs Blackpool post an imposing score as they declared in the 44th over on 269-4.

Stephen Twist recorded the second Division 1 century of his career as he top scored on 110 off just 77 balls supported by Andy Furniss unbeaten on 74 off 58 balls.

In reply Penrith batted out 48 overs as they held on closing on 190-7. Alex Atkinsons making 61 off 57 the main contributor with useful knocks of 39 off 77 balls by Michael Slack and an unbeaten 34 off 65 by Greg Hall.

Christi Viljeon back for a second season at Blackpool returning figures of 2-41, whilst Stephen Mercer and Stephen Twist also got two wickets apiece.

Darwen v Chorley

Darwen overcame the challenge of Chorley after picking up a 123 run victory at Birch Hall.

Jordan Clarke's team batting first posted a huge score of 228-9 off 50 overs. Ammer Mirza opening the innings made 71. Whilst Sub Professional Daniel Salpietro hit a half century before being run out for 58. Chorley's Chris Harty the main wicket taker returning figures of 3-45.

Chorley struggled in their reply and they were bowled out for 101 in 40.3 overs. Niall Burke returning the impressive figures of 5-28. Chorley's overseas star Brenton McDonald top scoring with 45

Kendal v Fleetwood

Fleetwood lead the way after two rounds into the Northern Cricket League season following a 5 wicket win at Kendal in a low scoring game. in a rain reduced overs contest. Kendal won the toss opted to bat and were skittled out for 89 in 34 overs. Ian Holland ripping through the hosts with figures of 7-34.

With a low total to chase, Kendal made Fleetwood work for the win, they got over the line closing on 90-5 off 30 overs. Adam Parker 45 and David King 23 setting Fleetwood up for the win. Saeed Bariwala returning figures of 4-39.

Leyland v Barrow

Barrow pulled off a 4 wicket win at Leyland. The hosts were all out for 155 in 44.2 overs. Stephen Boyd returning figures of 3-37, and Daryl Wearing with 3-33.

In reply Sam Dutton unbeaten on 64 off 86 and Michael Wellings 44 off 46 helped Barrow to an important 12 points reaching their target of 159-6 in 41.3 overs.



Morecambe captain Josh Dixon made 37

Netherfield v Morecambe

A rain reduced contest ended in victory for Morecambe as they defeated Netherfield by 47 runs at Parkside Road.

In a game reduced to an 80 overs match Morecambe batted first and they set a total of 181-6. Phillip Dennison top scoring with 65 off 90 setting Josh Dixon's team up for a good score. Netherfield professional Deiter Klein returned figures of 3-47.

In reply, Tommy Clough ripped through the hosts returning impressive figures of 5-24 with new Sri Lankan Professional Suraj Randiv returning 3-73.

Rick Potter hitting a half century making 55 off 80 as Netherfield were all out for 134 in 38.4 overs.

Preston v St Annes

St Annes won by 8 wickets at Preston. Preston were bowled out for 90 in 37 overs. Sub Professional Wesley Landsdale had figures of 5-12 with Preston's Mustaq Tailor battling with 48.

Andy Kellett's side seeing the game home in 15.1 overs closing on 91-2, Wesley Landsdale hitting a quickfire 55.

Division 2 Round Up:

Barrow v Leyland

Leyland won at Barrow by 4 wickets, Barrow closing on 122-8 with Jordan Nicholson making 57. James Rounding 4-24 and Steven Pallett 3-28 were Leyland's main wicket takers

The visitors got home in 37.4 overs for 123-6. Tom Reece 44 and Hamza Kahn with 36 laying the foundations for the win

Chorley v Darwen

Chorley overcame the Darwen challenge by 70 runs. The hosts posting 210-5, Ian Oakes with 56 off 60 balls. Ronald Nairey was the best bowler for the visitors with figures of 3-39.

Darwen were all out in reply for 140 in 38.2 overs, Paul Whittaker ripping through the visitors returning figures of 5-25 supported by Ian Oakes with 3-19.

Fleetwood v Kendal at Lancaster CC

Fleetwood won a low scoring encounter with Kendal by 2 wickets, the game being played at Lune Road Lancaster.

Kendal were restricted to 71-9, off a rain reduced 32 overs. Mike Dugdale top scoring with 30, Both Josh Heaney and Tom Clark took 3 wickets each.

In reply Fleetwood edged home in 25.4 overs closing on 74-8. Mike Clinning top scoring with 23. Toby Tyson had figures of 3-15 for Kendal

Morecambe v Netherfield

Netherfield claimed a winning draw in a rain affected contest at Woodhill Lane. Netherfield closed on 163-6 off 28 overs. Scott Clement top scoring with 6 and Joe Atkinson scoring a half century with 50.

Irfan Qayyam was Morecambe's best bowler with figures of 3-52.

Morecambe were on 97-4 off their 28 overs, Prithiv Goshal top scoring with 39 and Dylan Hoyle returning figures of 2-13 for Netherfield

Penrith v Blackpool

Blackpool defeated Penrith by 8 wickets, in a rain affected contest. Penrith closed on 159-9 with Matthew Siddall returning figures of 5-44.

Blackpool eased home in 37-4 overs, closing on 160-2, Tom Jefferson top scoring with 84

St Annes v Preston

St Annes saw of the Preston challenge by 68 runs, at Vernon Road. The hosts declaring on 218-3 in 34 overs , Geeth Malinda smashing an unbeaten century closing on 144.

Preston battled well before being bowled out for 150 in 41.4 overs . Mazoorf Hussain 50 with Moshin Patel 36 and Akmal Shah 26 put up a fight before falling to David Bartholomew who had figures of 5-61
