The Northern Cricket League Review

It was another cold day and champions Netherfield extended their lead with a win over Garstang.
There were also wins for Leyland, Kendal,Longridge and Chorley with Fulwood & Broughton having a winning draw at St Annes.

Blackpool v Leyland

Leyland won the toss at Stanley Park and chose to bat, Henry Thompson was the first to go caught behind by Ben Howarth off the bowling of Lahiru Madushanka for 10, 16-1

Thompson's fellow opener Karl Cross soon followed caught by Craig Brown off Matthew Grindley for 19, 25-2, Saif Badar joined Jacob Wright and they had moved the score onto 48 when Wright became Grindley's second victim caught behind by Ben Howarth for 12. 48-3

Nathan McDonnell was next in and he and Badar had a partnership of 54 before McDonnell became wicketkeeper Ben Howarth's third victim off the bowling of Joshua Boyne 18, 102-4

As so often happens in the game of cricket after a good partnership Badar fell one run later to the Howarth/Boyne combination for 39, 103-5. Ross Bretherton came to the wicket but had only made three runs when he was bowled by Matthew Siddall for 3, 117-6

Andrew Makinson and Saif Vohra moved the score on at nearly a run a ball, their partnership ended when Makinson was out another victim for Ben Howarth caught behind off Matthew Grindley for 39, 154-7

The Innings closed shortly afterwards with Leyland 163-7 off their 50 overs with Vohra 11no and James Rounding 6no

Ben Howarth had 5 victims in the innings, Matthew Grindley had 3-42 off 16 overs, Joshua Boyne 2-23 from 7, Matthew Siddal 1-34 off 13 and Lahiru Madushanka 1-39 from 9

The Blackpool reply followed the pattern of the visitors losing two early wickets, Sam Dutton bowled by Will Jacques for 5, 9-1 followed by Matthew Houston trapped lbw by Karl Cross for 8, 27-2

Joshua Boyne and Craig Brown dug in and began to rebuild the Blackpool innings, they had reached their 50 partnership when Brown was caught by Nathan McDonnell off the bowling of Saif Badar for 21. 77-3 bringing Lahiru Madushanka to the wicket

Boyne quickly followed caught behind by Alex Williams off Nathan McDonnell for 39, 83-4. Madushanka found himself being stranded as wickets kept falling at the other end, Andy Furniss was out lbw to Saif Badar for 0, 96-5

Nathan McDonnell now took control having Ben Howarth caught behind by Alex Williams for 0, 97-6, he then had Paul Danson caught by Jacob Wright for 0, 103-7, Matthew Grindley was his next victim caught by Wil Jacques for 2 107-8

Any chance of Blackpool saving the game went when Madushanka was bowled by Nathan McDonnell for 32, 114-9. McDonnell claimed his sixth victim and the match when he had Matthew Siddall caught by Karl Cross for 0 118 all out. Jamie Thomson was 2 no

Nathan McDonnell's figures were 11 overs 5 maidens 25 runs 6 wickets, Badar 2-48 from 12, Will Jacques 1-18 off 7 and Karl Cross 1-19 from 8

Fleetwood v Kendal

Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and invited the visitors to bat, they got off to a great start taking the prize wicket of Wes Marshall bowled by Toby Lush for 6, 10-1

Tom Benn joined Saeed Bariwala but after making only 6 runs was trapped lbw off Alex Ryder, 25-2, there followed a partneship of 71 between Bariwala and Ben Phillips when Phillips fell lbw to Declan Clerkin for 45 96-3

The next wicket fell without addition to the score Dan Woods bowled by Declan Derkin for 0, 96-4, there followed two run outs which did not help the Kendal cause, Joseph Dodds for 1 99-5, then Edward Price for 12, 117-6

Bariwala's innings now came to a close lbw to Neels Bergh for 41, 118-7, four runs later Bergh removed Chris Miller caught and bowled for 2 122-8. Bergh then mopped up the tail having Richard Dakin caught by Tom Wilson for 7, 128-9 then next ball bowling Matthew Park for 0, 128 all out in 44.4 overs

Neels Bergh had 4-45 off 13.4 overs, Declan Clerkin 2-15 from 10, Alex Ryder 1-24 off 11 and Toby Lush 1-22 from 5

Fleetwood got off to a bad start losing Fraser Parr bowled by Chris Miller for 6, 8-1. Keegan Armstrong joined Rana Singh but with the total on 24 Armstrong was run out by Ben Phillips for 3, 24-2

Neels Bergh was next in and with Rana Singh took the score to 41 when Rana Singh was caught by Richard Dakin off Chris Miller for 21, 41-3, Declan Clerkin was out two balls later lbw to Chris Miller for 0, 41-4

Fleetwood were struggling and 6 runs later lost three wickets on the same score to Chris Miller, Adam Sharrocks bowled for 2 47-5, then Matt Clark bowled for 0, 47-6, Tom Wilson lbw 0 47-7

Alex Ryder joined Neels Bergh and they battled to revive the innings and had added 40 runs when Ryder was bowled by Saeed Bariwala for 15, 87-8. Toby Lush was next out caught behind by Tom Benn off Wes Marshall for 8, 98-9

Neels Bergh and last man Jack Wilkinson edged towards to Kendal total but on 113 Saeed Bariwala bowled Wilkinson for 2 to give Kendal victory leaving Bergh 51no

Chis Miller had figures of 17 overs 6 for 52, Seaeed Bariwala 2-27 from 4.2 and Wes Marshall 1-21 from 17 overs

Longridge v Barrow

Barrow won the toss at the Newsham Memorial Cricket ground and asked the hosts to bat first, Daniel Wilkinson Jnr and John Simpson took the score to 32 when Simpson was bowled by Greg Reynolds for 10. 32-1

Zac Christie joined Wilkinson and had a partnership of 47 before Christie was out bowled by Justin Pringle for 10, 79-2. Luke Platt was next in and with Wilkinson moved the total to 118 when he was run out by Justin Pringle for 18, 118-3

Lachlan Bangs was next out caught by Glenn Kermode off Sam Henderson for 3, 131-4, Wilkinson was 90 off 106 balls when he was caught behind by Jack Hill-Eades off Dineth Thimodya, 155-5

James Whitehead and Ian Simpson consolidated the innings taking the score to 196 when Whitehead was caught by Glen Kermode off Thimodya for 28, 196-6. Glen Kermode was in action again soon afterwards catching Matt Greenall off Greg Reynolds for 1, 198-7

Ian Simpson was next out to the Kermode/Thimodya combination for 15, 204-8, Nick Wilkinson fell one run later caught behind by Jack Hill-Eades off Thimodya for 1 205-9.

The innings closed shortly afterwards with Longridge on 219-9 in their 50 overs with Jonathan Millward 9no and Daniel Wilson 4no

Dineth Thimodya was Barrow's best bowler with 4-31 off 10 overs, Greg Reynolds took 2-32 from 5 with Justin Pringle and Sam Henderson taking a wicket

The Barrow innings never got off the ground losing three quick wickets, Justin Pringle the first to go caught behind by Zac Christie off Jonathan Millward for 4, 4-1. Glen Kermode followed next ball lbw to Millward for 0 4-2

Matt Greenall got in on the act bowling Dinesth Thimodya for 1, 12-3. Toby Mowat and Greg Reynold battled to save the innings but on 39 Reynolds was bowled by Jonathan Millward for 15, 39-4. Daryl Wearing joined Mowat but with the score on 69 Mowat was trapped lbw by Ian Simpson for 22, 69-5

One further run had been added when Barrow lost two wickets, Daryl Wearing bowled by Ian Simpson for 16, 70-6 followed by Jack Hill-Eades caught behind by Zac Christie off Daniel Wilson for 0, 70-7

Sam Henderson was next to go caught and bowled by Ian Simpson for 2, 72-8, 72 for 8 became 72-9 with Ian Simpson having Ben Carr caught by Nick Wilkinson for 0. The innings closed wirh Daniel Wilson bowling Gary Collins for 5 89 all out in 31.3 overs leaving Jordan Nicholson 12no

Ian Simpson took 4-23 from 7 overs, Jonathan Millward 3-31 off 9, Daniel Wilson 2-9 from 8.3 with Matt Greenall 1-17 off 7

Netherfield v Garstang

Netherfield won the toss at Parkside Road and invited the visitors to bat, openers Michael Walling and Mark Winstanley took the score to 31 when Winstanley was bowled by Bevan Small for 12, 31-1

No 3 for Garstang was Mark Walling and with Michael had moved the total to 51 when Michael was bowled by Robbie Dwyer for 27, 51-2. Punit Bisht was next in and had taken the score to 105 when Mark Walling was out caught behind by Lewis Edge off Joel Blain for 27, 105-3

Punit Bisht was keeping the scoreboard moving but with the total on 137 his innings ended on 57 off 62 balls caught by Bradley Earl off Joel Blain, 137-4, Matthew Crowther was next out bowled by Blain for 10, 143-5

The Garstang batsmen were now scoring at nearly a run a ball, Danny Gilbert fell on 161 caught behind by Lewis Edge of Scott Clement for 11, 161-6, the seventh wicket fell six runs later Naqib Rahman caught by Bradley Earl off Marc Hadwin for 7, 167-7

The eighth wicket to fall was that of Ian Walling caught and bowled by Scott Clement for 7, 180-8. Michael Wellings 30no and Travis Pieters 15no saw the Garstang innings out as they were 209-8 from their 50 overs

Joel Blain took 3-59 from 13 overs, Scott Clement 2-27 off 5 with Bevan Small, Robbie Dwyer and Marc Hadwin each taking one wicket

Netherfield got off to a steady start with Ben Barrow and Josh Dixon, Dixon was out bowled by Danny Gilbert for 13, 35-1, Gilbert struck again bowling Bevan Small for 2, 38-2

Bradley Earl joined Barrow and they took control of the match with a partnership of 150 when Earl was caught by Mark Walling off Danny Gilbert for 91 in 88 balls, 188-3

That was the last success for Garstang as Lewis Edge and Ben Barrow saw Netherfield home on 213-3 in 47.1 overs, Barrow 86no and Edge 11no

Danny Gilbert took 3-71 from 14 overs

Penrith v Chorley

Chorley won the toss at Tynfield Park and elected to bat and got off to a disastrous start losing Alexander Howarth first ball caught by Kriss McLean off Greg Hall for 0, 0-1

Andrew Holdsworth joined Wian Van Zyl and they took the score onto 40 when Hall struck again having Holdsworth caught behind by Alister Craig for 17, 40-2,

Van Zyl's next partner was Will Moulton and they had a partnership of 81 when Van Zyl was bowled by Asher Hart for 51, 121-3, only seven runs had been added when Hall had Chamikara Edirisinghe caught by Nick Hodgson for 5, 130-4

Hart took two quick wickets bowling Will Moulton for 43, 130-5. and trapping Edwin Moulton lbw for 1, 133-6. After the loss of the quick wickets Stuart Naden and Harry Barclay batted carefully but on 149 Naden was caught by Nick Hodgson off Jonathon Osborne for 7.

Jamie O'Brien took two wickets with the total on 161, Gaurav Dhar caught by Asher Hart for 3, 161-8, next Harry Barclay caught by Samuel Hall for 17, 161-9.

The Chorley innings closed on 163-9 in their 50 overs with James Lee 1no and Joe Barker 1no

Greg Hall took 3-37 off 17 overs, Asher Hart 3-38 from 17, Jamie O'Brien 2-20 off 4 and Jonathon Osborne 1-34 from 10

Nick Hodgson and Zac Reekie opened for Penrith and had reached 21 when Reekie was caught behind by Harry Barclay off Edwin Moulton for 9, 21-1, six runs later James Lee struck bowling Nicky Burns for 3 27-2

Moulton then bowled Nick Hodgson for 12 27-3, Penrith were in trouble and Greg Cameron and Asher Hart batted carefully and steered the total to 108 when Hart was trapped lbw by Gaurav Dhar for 37, 108-4

Greg Hall joined Cameron but with the score on 117 Cameron suffered the same fate as Hart lbw to Dhar for 51, 117-5.Alister Craig came to the wicket and with Hall seemed to be guiding the home side closer too victory but on 140 Hall became Dhar's third victim out for 9, 140-6

Penrith's chance of victory disappeared with the loss of two wickets for one run, Samuel Hall Caught behind by Harry Barclay for 0, 141-7. Alister Craig was then bowled by Edwin Moulton for 15, 141-8

Five more runs had been added when Edwin Moulton mopped up the tail having Kriss McLean caught by Will Moulton for 4, 146-9, then he trapped Jamie O'Brien lbw for 0 146 all out

Edwin Moulton bowled 13.4 overs and took 5 for 40, Gaurav Ghar took 4-24 from 7 and James Lee 1-25off 13

St Annes v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at Vernon Road and elected to bat, they got off to a bad start losing three early wickets to Tom Higson, they recovered thanks to Matthew Smith 47, Charlie Brookes and Euan Fletcher 41no closing on 188-7

Tom Higson had figures of 17 overs 5 maidens 21 runs 4 wickets, Amar Ullah took 2-47 from 12 and Tom Bradley 1-53 off 10

In reply St Annes looked in a good position with the partnership of Tim Smithies 46 and Mohamed Nadeem 28 but once they were out the hosts lost wickets on a regular basis cloing on 166-8

Simon Kerrigan took 3-26 from 17 overs, Chris Brookes 3-21 off 5 and Jon Fenton 1-35 from 8
