The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 15 of the Northern Premier League saw joint leaders Chorley and Kendal win.

Longridge lost ground with their defeat at Leyland. Garstang go third thanks to their win at Blackpool, there are also wins for Fulwood & Broughton and Netherfield.

Things are starting to look bleak for the bottom two Eccleston (Chorley) and Penrith.

Blackpool v Garstang

Blackpool won the toss at Stanley Park and invited the visitors to bat first, Michael Walling and Luke Smith opened with a stand of 60 broken by Josh Boyne having Michael Walling caught by Punit Bisht for 36 (66 balls), 60-1

The Garstang number three was Joseph Pearson but soon fell to Izatullah Stankzai lbw for 2 (11 balls), 67-2. Next in was Matthew Crowther, their partnership took the score to 100 when Josh Boyne claimed his second wicket Matthew Crowhter caugth by Kasim Munir for 10 (34 balls), 100-3

The new batsman was Mark Walling but on reaaching twelve (15 balls) he was run out by Dylan Henshall, 120-4. Ryan Pearson was next in but was soon out bowled by Izatullah Stankzai for 5 (12 balls), 132-5. Hugo Croft joined Luke Smith and they kept the scoreboard ticking over until Luke Smith was stumped by Ben Howarth off Josh Boyne for 74 (108 balls), 173-6

Ian Walling 38no (17 balls) and Hugo Croft 41no (37 balls) attacked the Blackpool bowling and saw Garstang close on 232-6 in their 50 overs

The Blackpool bowling was Josh Boyne 3-75 from 15 overs, Izatullah Stankzai 2-40 off 10, William Vause 0-15 from 4, Punit Bisht 0-19 off 5, Ali Munir 0-25 from 5 and Jamie Thomson 0-47 off 11.

The hosts got off to a bad start with openers Kasim Munir and Jake Muncaster partnership broken by Ian Walling bowling Jake Muncaster for 7 (5 balls), 10-1. coming in at number three was Garstang's last season's pro Punit Bisht, he lost his partner Kasim Munir lbw to Ian Walling for 6 (23 balls), 27-2

Josh Boyne was the new batsman and with Bisht looked to be building a good score until Boyne was caught behind by Matthew Crowther off Danny Gilbert for 23 (37 balls), 69-3. Dylan Henshall came to the wicket but on reaching 9 (14 balls) he was bowled by Joel Anthony Derham, 92-4.

Ben Howarth was next in and supported Punit Bisht until he fell to the Crowther/Gilbert combination, caught behind by Matthew Crowther off Danny Gilbert for 5 (26 balls), 104-5. Stan Howarth replaced Ben Howarth, he was soon out caught by Mark Walling off Joel Anthony Derham for 2 (13 balls), 121-6.

Ali Munir was Bisht's next partner but became Joel Anthony Derham's third victim caught by Michael Walling for 2 (20 balls), 139-7. Izatullah Stankzai joined Bisht, Danny Gilbert made the big break through for the vistors taking two wickets in three balls, first the prize wicket of Punit Bisht caught by Hugo Croft for 93 (103 balls), 166-8, two balls later he bowled William Vause for 0 (2 balls), 166-9

Jamie Thomson joined Izatullah Stankzai but the Blackpool innings came to a close on 171 all out in 43.5 overs with Jamie Thomson run out by Hugo Croft for 1 (3 balls), Izatullah Stankzai was 11no (21 balls).

For the visitors Danny Gilbert took 4-34 from 11 overs, Joel Anthony Derham 3-45 off 13.5, Ian Walling 2-63 from 13 and Waris Khan 0-22 off 6

Chorley v Penrith

Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and put the visitors into bat, Ollie Greenwood and Owen Jones were soon parted Ollie Greenwood bowled by Will Moulton for 2 (10 balls), 6-1, Number three was Harsha Vithana, he became Will Moulton's second wicket lbw for 6 (16 balls)21-2

Alister Craig was Owen Jones new partner and they were rebuilding the innings until both were out, Owen Jones was bowled by James Dunn for 24 (78 balls), 49-3. quickley followed by Alister Craig lbw to James Dunn for 10 (25 balls), 50-4.

The two new batsmen were Greg Cameron and Finlay Hansford, the had moved the score to 78 when disaster struck for the visitors losing three wickets without addition, Greg Cameron went first bowled by Sam Steeple for 22 (32 balls), 78-5, Edwin Moulton bowled Finlay Harnsford for 2 (18 balls), 78-6. Sam Steeple claimed his second wicket bowling James Ellis for 0 (4 balls), 78-7

Sam Steeple then polished off the tail, he bowled Finn Harrison for 1 (5 balls) 80-8, next ball he bowled Andrei Carp for 0 (1 ball), 80-9. He closed the Penrith innings on 84 all out in 35.1 overs bowling Charlie Hansford for 1 (7 balls), Jamie O'Brien was 4no (15 balls).

For Chorley Sam Steeple took 5-7 form 4.1 overs, Will Moulton 2-13 off 7, James Dunn 2-16 from 7, Edwin Moulton 1-15 off 10, Ian Okes 0-4 from 1 and Joshua Pistorius 0-20 off 6

Will Moulton and Alfie Dobson opened for the hosts, Greg Cameron quickly accounted for Will Moulton trapping him lbw for 1 (5 balls), 3-1, Roshen Silva was the Chorley number three and with Dobson were going along nicely until Finlay Handsford had Alfie Dobson caught by Harsha Vithana for 17 (29 balls), 33-2

The new batsman was Joshua Pistorius and with Silva moved the score along, Harsha Vithana gave the visitors some hope with two quick wickets, he bowled Roshen Silva for 17 (38 balls), 49-3, shortly afterwards he bowled Zayn Wadiwala for 0 (14 balls), 50-4

Harry Barclay joined Joshua Pistorius but lost his partner caught by James Ellis off Finn Harrison for 23 (38 balls), 65-5. That was the last success for the visitors as Chorley closed on 88-5 in 26.1 overs with Edwin Moulton 13no (15 balls) and Harry Barclay 5no (18 balls).

Harsha Vithana took 2-8 from 9 overs, Greg Cameron 1-10 off 3, Finlay Hansford 1-18 from 6, Finn Harrison 1-20 off 5, James Ellis 0-15 from 3 and Owen Jones 0-6 off 0.1

Fleetwood v Netherfield

Netherfield won the toss at Broadwater and elected to bat first, Josh Dixon and Theo Gallagher opened, Theo Gallagher was the first to go bowled by Tiaan Van Vuuren for 13 (27 balls), 29-1, Aryan Varsani came in at three and was scoring at a run a ball until he was bowled by Declan Clerkin for 12 (12 balls), 44-2

Ben Barrow was Josh Dixon's new partner and they took the score past the hundred when Andy Drake ran Josh Dixon out for 31 (95 balls), 109-3, next in was Isaac Medhurst but with the score on 136 they were both out, Ben Barrow went first caught by Will Reader off Rizwan Patel for 59 (110 balls), 136-4, Isaac Medhurst followed bowled by Tiaan Van Vuuren for 6 (17 balls), 136-5

Will Beeden and Steven Fisher were the new batsmen, Tiaan Van Vuuren struck having Steven Fisher caught behind by Harry McAleer for 0 (17 balls), 146-6, Sagar Udeshi was next in but was sooon out bowled by Will Reader for 0 (2 balls), 149-7.

Oli Wileman joined Will Beeden but with only nine runs added Will Beeden was run out on next to the last ball by Harry McAleer for 19 (20 balls), 158-8, The innings closed on 158-8 with number ten Samuel Medhurst 0no (1 ball) and Oli Wileman 3no (4 balls).

Tiaan Van Vuuren took 3-56 from 15 overs, Will Reader 1-18 off 3, Declan Clerkin 1-24 from 15, Rizwan Patel 1-35 off 15 and Jeremy Davies 0-12 from 2.

Nathan Bend and Andy Drake were the Fleetwood openers but were soon parted with Samuel Medhurst bowling Nathan Bend for 3 (9 balls), 3-1, number three was Jeremy Davies but on reaching 15 both batsmen were out, Samuel Medhurst bowled Andy Drake for 1 (34 balls) 15-2, Matt Jackson then had Jeremy Davies caught behind by Will Beeden for 10 (19 balls), 15-3

The two new batsmen were Tiaan Van Vuuren and Harry McAleer, Samuel Medhurst claimed his thrd victim bowling Harry McAleer for 2 (14 balls), 24-4, the incoming batsmen was Charlie Clark, Sagar Udeshi trapped him lbw for 0 (7 balls), 25-5.

Declan Clerkin joined Tiaan Van Vuuren, the score was 39 and disaster struck for the hosts losing three wickets without addition, Samuel Medhurst once again made the break through bowling Tiaan Van Vuuren for 11 (35 balls), 39-6, Matt Jackson had Declan Clerkin caught by Oli Wileman for 9 (20 balls), 39-7, new batsman Adam Sharrocks became Samuel Medhust's fifth wicket lbw for 0 (1 ball), 39-8

The Fleetwood number nine was Joseph Warwick and ten Will Reader, Joseph Warwick was run out by Aryan Varsani for 2 (7 balls), 46-9. Three runs later Fleewood were bowled out for 49 in 27.3 overs when Sagar Udeshi had Will Reader lbw for 7 (15 balls). Rizwan Patel was 0no (5 balls).

The Netherfield bowling was Samuel Medhurst 5-22 from 13 overs, Sagar Udeshi 2-7 off 5.3 and Matt Jackson 2-17 from 9.

Fulwood & Broughton v Eccleston (Chorley)

Fulwood & Brought won the toss at the Highfield ground and invited the visitors to bat first, Adam Norris and and Matthew Ashcroft were the opening pair, Hareen Buddila ran out Adam Norris for 3 (14 balls), 9-1, Thomas Foster was in at three but lost his partner Matthew Ashcroft bowled by Jon Fenton for 8 (16 balls), 13-2.

The incoming batsman was Martyn James Brierley who soon became Jon Fenton's second wicket caught behind by James McWilliam for 7 (16 balls), 21-3, the new man in was Michael Atkinson but once again he fell quickly caught by Hareen Buddila off Khalil Patel for 1 ( 9 balls),26-4.

Reece Thomas replaced Atkinson, Jon Fenton struck bowling Reece Thomas for 3 (8 balls), 29-5. things got decidedly worse for the visitors losing three wickets with the score on 35, Thomas Foster was the first to go caught by Chris Brookes off Hareen Buddila for 10 (23 balls) 35-6, next to go was Tom Potter caught by James Lupton off Jon Fenton for 1 (9 balls), 35-7, and lastly Thomas Wilkinson lbw to Hareen Buddila for 0 (8 balls), 35-8

Hareen Buddila claimed the last two wickets, Alex Brooks caught by Muhammad Zaid for 6 (12 balls), 42-9, he then had Sam Norris stumped by James McWilliam for 0 (4 balls) resulting in Penrith 44 all out in 21.1 overs with Nick Fowler 1no (9 balls).

The Fulwood & Broughton bowling was Hareen Buddila 4-2 from 3.1 overs, Jon Fenton 4-24 off 11 and Khalil Patel 1-17 from 11.

James McWilliam and Muhammad Zaid opened for the hosts but on 25 the partnership was broken by Thomas Foster having James McWilliam caught by Michael Atkinson for 3 (15 balls), 25-1, coming in at number three was Ben Parkinson and was quickly out caught by Reece Thomas off Thomas Wilkinson for 0 (4 balls).

Muhammad Zaid had been scoring at a run a ball and with his new partner Hareen Buddila took the score to within three runs of victory when Zaid was out caught by Reece Thomas off Thomas Foster for 39 (38 balls), 42-3. Hareen Buddila 6no (2 balls) hit a six for the winning runs as Fulwood & Broughton closed on 50-3 in 10.2 overs. Ben Rosbottom was 2no (3 balls),

For Eccleston (Chorley) Thomas Foster took 2-14 from 3 overs, Thomas Wilkinson 1-11 off 2.2, Michael Atkinson 0-11 from 3 and Nick Fowler 0-14 off 2.

Leyland v Longridge

Longidge won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and asked the hosts to bat first, Jacob Wright and James Rounding got off to a good start, their partnership was broken with Tom Turner stumping Jacob Wright off Matt Greenall for 16 (41 balls), 37-1

Zak Willox came in at three, he was soon out bowled by Jonathan Millward for 2 (10 balls), 52-2, next man in was Karl Cross, the introduction of Caleb Bradford into the attack changed things, in his first over he trapped James Rounding lbw for 27 (64 balls), 54-3

Bradford qucikly accounted for new batsman James Critchley caught by Zac Christie for 0 (4 balls), 56-4, Kurtis Watson was in next but fell to Jonathan Millward lbw for 1 (4 balls), 57-5. Andrew Makinson joined Karl Cross and they had moved the score onto 78 when Caleb Bradford had Karl Cross lbw for 10 (53 balls), 78-6.

Iain Critchley replaced Cross but was out caught and bowled by Tom Howarth for 0 (7 balls), 81-7, Andrew Sexton was Andrew Makinson's new partner and they took the score past the hundred, Caleb Bradford claimed his fourth wicket Andrew Sexton stumped by Tom Turner for 8 (19 balls), 104-8

Caleb Bradford then took the remaining two wickets, first the battling Andrew Makinson caught by Luke Platt for 34 (78 balls), 109-9, next ball he had Andrew Jacques lbw for 0 (1 ball) as Leyland were bowled out for 109 in 47.5 overs. Kerwin Mungroo was 2no (7 balls).

The Longridge bowling was Caleb Bradford 6-30 from 14.5 overs, Jonathan Millward 2-32 off 15, Tom Howarth 1-17 from 9 and Matt Greenall 1-26 off 9

Joshua Mullin and Tom Howarth opened for the visitors and like the hosts got off to a good start until like in the first inning the introduction of spin, Iain Critchley in his second over made the breakthrough bowling Joshua Mullin for 19 (22 balls), 31-1

Coming in at three was Zach Proctor who was out bowled by Andrew Jacques 5 (10 balls), 38-2, Zac Christie was the new man but lost his partner Tom Howarth caught behind by Adam Sexton off Iain Critchley, for 14 (51 balls), 46-3, two balls later Iain Critchley bowled Luke Platt for 0 (2 balls), 46-4

Matthew De Villiers replaced Platt but soon lost Zac Christie again a Critchley victim caught by Karl Cross for 6 (23 balls), 51-5, Tom Turner was the new man in but he could not stop Iain Critchley who claimed his fifth wicket having him caught by Kerwin Mungroo for 8 (30 balls), 65-6

James Whitehead was next in and became wicket number six for Iain Critchley lbw for 1 (19 balls), 79-7, Jonathan Millward came to the wicket but suffered the same fate as Whitehead lbw to Iain Critchley for 0 (2 balls), 79-8

Kurtis Watson claimed the last two wickets, Bowling Matt Greenall for 0 (4 balls), 80-9, he then had Matthew De Villiers caught behind by Adam Sexton for 29 (57 balls) as Longridge were bowled out for 89 in 37.3 overs with Caleb Bradford 0no (4 balls).

Iain Critchley had figures of 7-21 from 15 overs, Kurtis Watson 2-15 off 4.3, Andrew Jacques 1-26 from 14, Zac Willox 0-5 off 1 and Kerwin Mungroo 0-16 from 3

St Annes v Kendal

St Annes won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first, Freddie Fallows opened and after a bright start Freddie Fallows was caught by Yohan De Silva off Mitch Bolus for 18 (20 balls), 20-1, Max Winskill was the Kendal number three and their partnership was approaching 50 when Alex McGloughlin had Darren Nightingale caught by Mitch Bolus for 15 (31 balls), 49-2.

Rongsen Jonathan was in at three and with Winskill were going well until Jonathan was caught and bowled by Tom Higson for 21 (29 balls), 81-3, Tom Higson struck again shortly afterwards new batsman Bradley Earl caught by Mitch Bolus for 0 (12 balls), 85-4.

Next in was Finlay Richardson who soon became wicket number three for Tom Higson caught and bowled for 2 (8 balls), 91-5. Lewis Richardson came in but fell to Tom Higson lbw for 8 (14 balls), 107-6.

Chris Miller replaced Richardson and with Winskill took the score to 150. Tom Higson broke the partnership claiming his fifth wicket having Chris Miller caught by Tom Bradley for 11 (33 balls), 150-7

Toby Tyson came in at nine but lost Max Winskill bowled by Yohan De Silva for 62 (101 balls), 150-8. Louis Backhouse was the new batsman but lost Toby Tyson bowled by Mitch Bolus for 2 (13 balls), 154-9. Matthew Park 12no (23 balls) and Louis Backhouse 20no (21 balls) saw the visitors close on 185-9 in their 50 overs.

Tom Higson lead the way with 5-41 from 15 overs supported by Mitch Bolus 2-61 off 13, Alec McGloughlin 1-21 from 7 Yohan De Silva 1-25 off 6 and Tom Bradley 0-27 from 9

Yohan De Silva and Tom Higson opened for the hosts and were going along quite nicely until the introduction of spin in the form of Chris Miller, in his first over he had Tom Higson caught by Freddie Fallows for 19 (28 balls), 37-1

The St Annes number three was Luke Jardine who quickly became Miller's next victim out caught by Lewis Richardson for 0 (9 balls), 39-2. Nathan Armstrong was the new batsman trapped lbw by Louis Backhouse for 0 (3 balls), 40-3

Lukman Vahaluwala came in next but suffered the same fate as Armstrong out lbw but to Chris Miller for 0 (6 balls), 41-4. Alec McGloughlin was De Silva's next partner but with only fifteen runs added Chris Miller claimed his fourth wicket McGloughlin caught by Mattew Park for 9 (13 balls), 56-5

The new batsman was Alex Naylor who became Millers fifth victim lbw for 6 (9 balls), 68-6. James Bradley replaced Naylor, Yohan De Silva had kept one end going and watching the collapse at the other end, he was next out caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Chris Miller for a fighting 32 (76 balls), 71-7.

Mitch Bolus joined Bradley and took the game to the visitors and it was Chris Miller taking his seventh wicket that ended his charge as Bolus was caught by Darren Nightingale for 36 (39 balls), 119-8.

Freddie Fallows then cleaned up the tail bowling Ryan Birkman for 0 (11 balls), 120-9, he then had Tom Bradley caught by Darren Nigthingale for 0 (4 balls) as St Annes were bowled out for 122 in 41.3 overs with James Bradley 7no (51 balls).

Chris Miller took 7-42 from 15 overs with Feddie Fallows 2-23 off 11.3, Louis Backhouse 1-21 from 9 and Toby Tyson 0-24 off 6
