The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 16 of the Northern Premier League was once again effected by the weather,

Only two games were completed. The match of the joint leaders went ahead with Chorley coming out on top and therefore now being top of the league.

Garstang go second after defeating Penrith at Tynefield Park making the home sides chances of staying up more difficult.

The other four matches were abandoned.

Kendal v Chorley

One of the two games played the battle of the joint leaders took place at Shap Road with Chorley winning the toss and inviting the hosts to bat first, Freddie Fallows and Darren Nightingale opened .

The hosts got off to a disastrouus start thanks to Will Moulton who accounted for the top three, He had Freddie Fallows caught by Ben Milnes for 5 (13 balls), 5-1, soon after Max Winskill followed bowled for three (8 balls), 11-2, five runs later he had Darren Nightingale caught behind by Harry Barclay for 3 (18 balls), 16-3

Rongsen Jonathan and Bradley Earl were the new batsmen and started to rebuild the innings, Edwin Moulton broke the partnership bowling Bradley Earl for 3 (16 balls), 29-4, Finlay Richardson came in next and with Jonathan were keeping the scoreboard ticking over, Will Moulton struck taking the prize wicket of Rongsen Jonathan caught by Roshen Silva for 20 (41 balls), 51-5.

Kendal were in serious trouble and things did not improve, Jonathan's replacement Lewis Richardson gave Will Moulton his fifth wicket lbw for 0 (3 balls), 57-6. Chris Miller joined Finlay Richardson but lost him stumped by Harry Barclay off Will Moulton for 17 (34 balls). 60-7.

Joshua Pistorius the cleaned up the Kendal tail, he had Chris Miller caught by Will Moulton for 2 (11 balls), 62-8, six runs later he took two wickets in two balls, Louis Backhouse was caught by Andrew Holdsworth for 3 (4 balls), 68-9, next ball Matthew Park was caught by Will Moulton for 0 (1 ball) resulting in Kendal being bowled out for 68 in 26.2 overs. Toby Tyson was 5no (9 balls)

Will Moulton's figures were 6-26 from 13 overs, Joshua Pistorius 3-2 off 2.2, Edwin Moulton 1-23 from 8 and James Lee 0-12 off 3

Will Moulton and Alfie Dobson opened for the visitors and took the score to 30 when both were out, Alfie Dobson was the first to go caught by Freddie fallows off Chris Miller for 17 (29 balls), 30-1, Will Moulton followed bowled by Freddie Fallows for 6 (20 balls), 30-2.

The new batsmen Roshen Silva 16no (52 balls) and Joshua Pistorius 22no (41 balls) carefully guided Chorley to victory and top of the League closing on 71-2 in 23.2 overs.

The Kendal bowling was Chris Miller 1-13 from 7 overs, Freddie Fallows 1-19 off 7, Louis Backhouse 0-2 from 3, Toby Tyson 0-4 off 2, Matthew Park 0-8 from 2 and Max Winskill 0-17 off 2.2.

Leyland v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and put the hosts into bat, Leyland made 190-6 in their 50 overs, Zac Willox was their top scorer with 76 supported by Kurtis Watson 75 and Andrew Makinson 17

For Fleetwood Jeremy Davies took 4-44 from 12 overs, Will Reader 1-16 off 8, Tiaan Van Vuuren 1-42 from 15 and Declan Clerkin 0-63 off 15.

The rains came and the match was abandoned

Longridge v Fulwood & Broughton

Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and invited the visitors to bat first, Matthew Smith and James McWilliam were the openers, Matt Greenall made the early breakthrough with James McWilliam caught by Matthew De Villiers for 0 (12 balls), 7-1

Ben Parkinson came in at number three and with Smith looked to be building a big score until Ben Parkinson was caught by Jake Durnell off Matthew De Villiers for 29 (59 balls), 76-2, Harren Buddilla came to the wicket but lost his partner Matthew Smith caught by Matthew De Villiers off Caleb Bradford for 41 (71 balls), 82-3

The next man in was Muhammad Zaid and with Buddila took the score to 100 when he became Caleb Bradford's second wicket caught and bowled for 11 (2 0 balls), 100-4. Ben Rosbottom joined Buddila, Caleb Bradford struck again Hareen Buddila caught by Zac Christie for 22 (32 balls). 115-5

Lewis Wellings was next in, Caleb Bradford once again broke the partnership Ben Rosbotton stumped by Tom Turner for 13 (16 balls), 133-6. Jon Fenton 1no (1 ball) joined Lewis Wellings 7no (5 balls). The innings was closed on 134-6 in 36 overs.

Caleb Bradford took 4-40 from 12 overs, Matthew De Villiers 1-31 off 10, Matt Greenall 1-37 from 8 and Jonathan Millward 0-20 off 6

The rains came and the match was abandoned

Penrith v Garstang

Penrith won the toss at Tynefield Park and asked the visitors to bat first in a reduced overs match of 60 overs, Michael Walling and Luke Smith opened. The hosts got off to a good start taking two quick wickets, Luke Smith was bowled first ball by James Ellis for 0, 1-1.

The Garstang number three Joseph Pearson was bowled by Greg Cameron for 0 (14 balls), 4-2. Mark Walling was next in and with Michael Walling took the score past 50, Greg Cameron broke the partnership bowling Mark Walling for 30 (38 balls), 53-3

The next man in was Hugo Croft, Samuel Hall was introduced into the attack and bowled Hugo Croft for 4 (12 balls), 72-4, Ian Walling replaced Croft and after a couple of lusty blows was out caught by Greg Cameron off Samuel Hall for 19 (14 balls), 100-5.

Danny Gilbert joined Michael Walling and they were going along nicely until Michael Walling was stumped by Alister Craig off Samuel Hall for 45 (72 balls), 100-6. The new man in was Matthew Crowther and with Gilbert were building the score, Danny Gilbert was next out falling to the Cameron/Hall combination, caught Greg Cameron bowled Samuel Hall for 19 (15 balls), 134-8

Tom Wells came in next, Samuel Hall claimed his fifth wicket Matthew Crowther caught behind by Alister Craig for 7 (8 balls), 145-8. The Garstang innings closed on 148-8 in their 30 overs with Tom Wells 3no (5 balls) and Waris Khan 1no (1 ball).

For Penrith Samuel Hall took 5-39 fron 6 overs, Greg Cameron 2-27 off 9, James Ellis 1-18 from 5, Finlay Hansford 0-5 off 1 and Harsha Vithana 0-41 from 9

In a must win game for the hosts Ollie Greenwood and Sulosan Thiru opened, Waris Khan made the breakthrough for the visitors bowling Ollie Greenwood for 9 ( balls), 11-1. Harsha Vithana came in at three but fell lbw to Ian Walling for 12 (17 balls), 34-2.

The next man in was James Bowman and with Thiru looked to be making progress until Sulosan Thiru was out lbw to Danny Gilbert for 31 (50 balls), 59-3. Greg Cameron came to the wicket and with Bowman kept the scoreboard ticking over, disaster struck for the hosts with Greg Cameron run out by Ian Walling for 8 (16 balls), 74-4,

Ben Littleton was in next and continued the fight until he was run out by Mark Walling for 10 (12 balls), 109-5. Alister Craig Joined Bowman, Garstang then took the vital wicket of James Bowman stumped by Matthew Crowther off Michael Walling for 35 (48 balls), 112-6

James Ellis came to the wicket but soon lost his partner Alister Craig bowled by Ian Walling for 14 (7 balls), 124-7. Three runs were added when the last three wickets fell without addition, Samuel Hall was lbw to Michael Walling for 1 (5 balls), 127-8, next ball Finn Harrison was also lbw to Michael Walling for 0 (1 ball), 127-9 and finally Ian Walling bowled James Ellis for 1 (5 balls) as Penrith were bowled out for 127 in 28.2 overs.

The Garstang bowling was Michael Walling 3-10 from 3 overs, Ian Walling 3-33 off 8.2, Waris Khan 1-19 from 4, Danny Gilbert 1-30 off 6 and Joel Anthony Derham 0-29 from 7.

This result moved the current champions into second and puts Penrith in serious trouble re relegation
