The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 18 of the Northern Premier League saw Chorley continue on their winning ways, the match of the day between second place and Champions Garstang and third place Kendal resulted in a win for Kendal and a reverse of league places.

There were also wins for Blackpool, Leyland and Longridge with Fleetwood having a winning draw against Eccleston (Chorley).

Blackpool v Penrith

Blackpool won the toss at Stanley Park and invited the visitors to bat, Ollie Greenwood and Owen Jones opened but did not get off to a good start with Owen Jones out caught by Jake Muncaster off Matthew Grindley for 1 (12 balls), 1-1

Harsha Vithana came in at three and had moved the total to 23 when Harsha Vithana was caught and bowled by Matthew Grindley for 11 (16 balls), 23-2, the new batsman was Sulosan Thiru but he lost his partner Ollie Greenwood caught by Josh Boyne off Matthew Grindley for 12 (56 balls), 26-3.

Greg Cameron came in next and with Sulosan Thiru were moving the score along until Greg Cameron was caught by Paul Danson off Steven Mercer for 14 (19 balls), 45-4, Alister Craig replaced Cameron but with only seven runs added Steven Mercer claimed his second victim Sulosan Thiru stumped by Ben Howarth for 7 (27 balls), 52-5.

The new man in was Dylan Simpson but he was soon out bowled by Shivam Chaudhary for 0 (14 balls), 55-6. Finn Harrison was Alister Craig's next partner but was run out by Josh Boyne for 1 (6 balls), 62-7. Nathan Ellwood replaced Harrison, Alister Crag became wicket number three for Steven Mercer caught by Matthew Grindley for 15 (30 balls), 67-8

Andrei Carp came in at ten and saw his partner Nathan Ellwood bowled by Shivam Chaudhary for 2 (15 balls), 67-9. Shivam Chaudhary closed the Penrith innings on 68 all out in 34.3 overs having Andrei Carp caught by Dylan Henshall for 0 (8 balls), Marcus Todd was 1no (6 balls).

The wickets were shared amongst the Blackpool bowlers Shivam Chaudhary 3-10 from 7.3 overs, Matthew Grindley 3-17 off 10, Steven Mercer 3-20 from 11 and William Vause 0-19 off 6

Tomas King and Kasim Munir opened for the hosts but lost King caught by Sulosan Thiru off Dylan Simpson for 10 (5 balls), 10-1. Shivam Chudhary was in at three but with the score on 42 he was out lbw to Andrei Carp for 20 (11 balls), 42-2.

Josh Boyne was next in and with Munir were in sight of victory when Josh Boyne was bowled by Andrei Carp for 15 (14 balls), 61-3. Dylan Henshall 7no (3 balls) replaced Boyne and Kasim Munir 13no (26 balls) saw the hosts to victory on 69-3 in 10.2 overs

Andrei Carp took 2-14 from 3 overs, Dylan Simpson 1-30 off 5, Marcus Todd 0-21 from 2 and Finn Harrison 02 off 0.2

Fleetwood v Eccleston (Chorley)

Eccleston (Chorley) won the toss at Broadwater in a reduced over game of 92 overs, They put the hosts into bat, Andy Drake and Jeremy Davies opened for the hosts and gave them a good start broken by Cameron Smith having Jeremy Davies caugth by Sam Norris for 17 (27 balls), 44-1.

Rudi Second was in at three and with Drake took the score past the hundred only for Second to be trapped lbw by Nick Fowler for 27 (37 balls), 101-2, There followed a passage of play when the hosts lost five wickets for seven runs, Harry McAleer was the first caught by Cameron Smith off Thomas Foster for 1 (7 balls), 102-3.

Two runs later Andy Drake fell caught by Alex Brooks off Nick Fowler for 55 (108 balls), 104-4. Nick Fowler claimed wicket number two Declan Clerkin lbw for 2 ( 9 balls), 107-5, Thomas Foster struck with two wickets in three balls, Adam Sharrocks lbw for 1 (3 balls), 108-6, followed by Fraser Parr caught behind by Adam Norris for 0 (3 balls), 108-7.

Will Reader was next in but lost his partner Charlie Clark bowled by Thomas Foster for 13 (26 balls), 121-8, Number ten was Rizwan Patel, Thomas Foster claimed his fifth wicket having Will Reader lbw for 6 (33 balls), 133-9. Jack Wilkinson 4no (9 balls) joined Rizwan Patel 13no (16 balls) and they took the hosts to 143-9 in thier 46 overs

For Eccleston (Chorley) Thomas Foster took 5-38 from 12 overs, Nick Fowler 3-27 off 11, Cameron Smith 1-33 from 8, Reece Thomas 0-9 off 4, Sam Norris 0-9 from 4 and Jack McKenna 0-26 off 7

Thomas Foster 22 (66 balls) and Martyn James Brierley 40 (87 balls) gave the visitors a steady but good start, unfortunately for the visitors only Nick Fowler 17 (46 balls) and Reece Thomas 16 (18 balls) reached double figures as they closed five runs short of victory on 139-7 in their 46 overs

Rizwan Patel took 4-34 from 10 overs, Jeremy Davies 1-22 off 13, Declan Clerkin 1-28 from 9 and Rudi Second 1-37 off 14

Kendal v Garstang

It is the match of the day second place Champions Garstang versus third placed Kendal played at Shap Road, Garstang won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first, Darren Nightingale and Freddie Fallows opened but were soon parted Darren Nightingale caught by Joseph Pearson off Ian Walling for 3 (14 balls). 4-1

Oliver Tyson was the Kendal number three but on making 7 (8 balls) he was bowled by Waris Khan, 23-2, Rongsen Jonathan came to the wicket but quickley lost Freddie Fallows to the Pearson/Walling combination, caught by Joseph Pearson bowled Ian Walling for 15 (22 balls), 25-3. The new batsman was Bradley Earl and with Jongsen Jonathan looked to be building a good score, Danny Gilbert broke the partnership having Rongsen Jonathan lbw for 22 (39 balls), 67-4.

Finlay Richardson joined Earl and kept the scoreboard ticking over until Bradley Earl was caught by Michael Walling off Joel Anthony Derham for 21 (60 balls), 83-5, Lewis Richardson was the new batsman but fell quickley to Danny Gilbert caught by Michael Walling for 2 (12 balls), 92-6

Chris Miller was Finlay Richardson's new partner, they took the score past the hundred for Richarson to fall caught Michael Walling bowled Danny Gilbert for 30 (46 balls), 107-7. Toby Tyson was next in but lost Chris Miller bowled by Ian Walling for 12 (29 balls), 112-8

Louis Backhouse replaced Miller but with only one run added Ian Walling claimed his fifth wicket Toby Tyson lbw for 1 (6 balls), 113 for 9. Matthew Park was number 11 and was bowled by Waris Khan for 2 (14 balls) as Kendal were bowled out for 128 in 44 overs with Louis Backhouse 12no (14 balls).

Ian Walling took 5-40 form 13 overs, Waris Khan 2-19 off 9, Danny Gilbert 2-30 from 9 Joel Anthony Derham 1-38 off 13.

Michael Walling and Luke Smith opened for the visitors and were made to work for their runs, Louis Backhouse broke the partnership trapping Michael Walling lbw for 15 (54 balls), number three was Matthew Crowther who continued the hard work, it was once again Louis Backhouse who made the breakthrough having Luke Smith caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 24 (70 balls), 40-2

Mark Walling was the new batsman but on reaching 10 (27 balls) Chris Miller had him caught by Freddie Fallows, 57-3. Joseph Pearson came to the wicket but with only ten runs added Matthew Crowther was bowled by Freddie Fallows for 10 (43 balls), 67-4.

The hosts saw the game move slightly their way with two quick wickets, Joseph Pearson was caught by Chris Miller off Toby Tyson for 17 (36 balls), 84-6, two runs later new batsman Hugo Croft was caught by Toby Tyson off Rongsen Jonathan for 2 (18 balls), 86-7.

Freddie Fallows had incoming batsman Tom Wells caught by Toby Tyson for 4 (10 balls), 94-8. Rongsen Jonathan cleaned up the Garstang tail, firstley he had Waris Khan lbw for 1 (7 balls), 97-9, he then had Joel Anthony Derham lbw for 0 (7 balls) bowling Garstang out for 103 in 49.3 overs with Ian Walling 13no (14 balls).

The victory for Kendal moved them up to second and Garstang back to third.

All the Kendal bowlers took a wicket the figures were Freddie Fallows 3-22 from 14 overs, Rongsen Jonathan 3-26 off 8.3, Louis Backhouse 2-11 from 5, Toby Tyson 1-11 off 7 and Chris Miller 1-28 from 15

Leyland v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and put the hosts into bat, Zak Willox and Karl Cross opened, their partnership was broken by Khalil Patel having Zak Willox lbw for 5 (10 balls), 18-1, Geeth Kumara came in at three but lost his partner Karl Cross caught behind by James McWilliam off Khalil Patel for 18 (21 balls), 31-2

The new batsman was Kurtis Watson who struggled and was out lbw to Hareen Buddila for 4 (36 balls), 53-2. Next in was Andrew Makinson and with Kumara were going along nicely until Geeth Kumara was run out by Hareen Buddila for 39 (71 balls), 92-4.

Jacob Wright joined Makinson and they kept the scoreboard ticking over, Jon Fenton broke their partnership having Andrew Makinson caught behind by James McWilliam for 48 (73 balls), 143-5. the incoming batsman was James Critchley. Jon Fenton claimed his second victim bowling Jacob Wright for 30 (55 balls), 154-6

James Rounding replaced Wright and with only a few overs remaining the hosts were going for the runs, James Rounding was run out by Khalil Patel for 4 (3 balls), 163-7, new batsman Iain Critchley suffered the same fate run out by Ben Parkinson for 0 (2 balls), 163-8

Andrew Jacques joined James Critchley but one run later James Critchley was caught by Hareen Buddila off Dom Jackson for 9 (18 balls), 164-9. Dom Jackson closed the Leyland innings on 167 all out in 49.2 overs by having Andrew Jacques caught behind by James McWilliam for 2 (7 balls), Adam Sexton was 2no (3 balls).

The wickets were spread amongst the Fulwood & Broughton bowlers, Khalil Patel 2-24 from 9 overs, Jon Fenton 2-37 off 11, Dom Jackson 2-58 from 10, Hareen Buddila 1-27 off 15 and James Lupton 0-20 from 4

Matthew Smith and James McWilliam opened for the visitors and there was early success for the hosts. Matthew Smith was caught behind by Adam Sexton off Andrew Jacques for 2 (3 balls), 2-1, Ben Parkinson was the visitors number three but lost his partner James McWilliam out caught by Karl Cross off James Critchley for 6 (12 balls), 22-2.

Hareen Buddila was next in and with only eight runs added Andrew Jacques bowled Ben Parkinson for 19 (33 balls), 30-3. Ben Rosbottom joined Buddila and they seemed to have steadied the ship, Iain Critchley made the breakthrough with the prize wicket of Hareen Buddila caught by Karl Cross for 23 (48 balls), 63-4

Muhammad Zaid was next in but quickly out lbw to Geeth Kumara for 0 (7 balls), 68-5. Lewis Wellings was the new batsman and on reaching 7 (17 balls) was bowled by Geeth Kumara, 86-6, Jon Fenton replaced Wellings, Geeth Kumara took the wicket of the battling Ben Rosbottom caught by Zak Willox for 31 (82 balls), 89-7

Dom Jackson came in and with one run added was bowled by Andrew Jacques for 1 (9 balls), 90-8. Number 10 was James Lupton who fell caught and bowled by Geeth Kumara for 0 (3 balls), 97-9. Khalil Patel was last in and did his best to stave off defeat but Geeth Kumara claimed his fifth wicket and victory by having Khalil Patel caught by Jacob Wright for 0 (25 balls) as Fulwood & Broughton were 103 all out in 44.2 overs, Jon Fenton was 12no (27 balls).

For Leyland Geeth Kumara took 5-31 from 13.2 overs, Andrew Jacques 3-15 off 13, James Critchley 1-22 from 6.3, Iain Critchley 1-29 off 10 and Kurtis Watson 0-5 from 1.3

Longridge v Netherfield

Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and invited the visitors to bat first, Josh Dixon and Theo Gallagher opened and were soon parted Theo Gallagher bowled by Matthew De Villiers for 1 (2 balls), 5-1

Aryan Varsani was in at three and with Dixon were making progress when the visitors lost quick two wickets Ayan Varsani was first caught by Joshua Mullin off Ollie Mullin for 17 (12 balls) 39-2, Ben Barrow was next in but out first ball bowled by Matthew De Villiers for 0, 39-3

John Huck was the new batsman, Matthew De Villiers claimed wicket number three Josh Dixon caught behind by Tom Turner for 19 (36 balls), 48-4. Isaac Medhurst was next in but lost John Huck bowled by Matthew De Villiers for 5 (21 balls), 49-5

Will Beeden joined Isaac Medhurst and they looked to be moving the score along until Will Beeden was caught by Zac Christie off Caleb Bradford for 18 (62 balls), 78-6. Oli Wileman was Medhust's new partner and their partnership was on 20 broken by Zach Proctor bowling Olie Wileman for 6 (24 balls), 98-7

Harry Lee replaced Wileman and was out fourth ball caught by Tom Howarth off Jake Durnell for 0, 99-8. Number ten Sagar Udeshi became Jake Durnell's second victim caught by Luke Platt for 6 (13 balls), 105-9.

Last man Samuel Medhurst and Isaac Medhurst battled away until Matthew De Villiers claimed his fifth wicket and closed the Netherfield innings on 132 in 48.5 overs by bowling Isaac Medhurst for 42 (103 balls), Samuel Medhurst was undefeated on 10no (24 balls).

All the Longridge bowlers took a wicket lead by Matthew De Villiers with 5-35 from 11.5 overs, Jake Durnell 2-33 off 14, Ollie Mullin 1-15 from 4, Zach Proctor 1-15 off 4 and Caleb Bradford 1-28 from 15.

Joshua Mullin and Tom Howarth opened for the hosts and gave them a brilliant start, they both were out on the same score, Tom Howarth was out bowled by Sagar Udsehi for 29 (59 balls), 76-1, followed by Joshua Mullin lbw to Isaac Medhurst for 42 (87 balls), 76-2

The two new batsmen were Matthew De Villiers and Zac Christie, they were approaching the hundred when Samuel Medhurst had Zac Christie caught by Sagar Udeshi for 8 (30 balls), 98-3. Next in was Tom Turner. Samuel Medhurst claimed wicket number two Tom Turner caught behind by Will Beeden for 4 (17 balls), 120-4

Luke Platt 1no (8 balls) joined Matthew De Villiers 37no (64 balls) and they saw the hosts to victory on 133-4 in 42.5 overs

For Netherfield Samuel Medhurst took2 -28 from 11.5 overs, Isaac Medhurst 1-28 off 9, Sagar Udeshi 1-39 from 15 and Harry Lee 0-34 off 7.

St Annes v Chorley

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and asked the visitors to bat first, Will Moulton and Alfie Dobson opened and got off to a disastrous start both being run out with thw total on 11, Will Moulton was first run out by Mitch Bolus for 5 (16 balls), 11-1, followed by Alfie Dobson run out Yohan De Silva for 0 (11 balls), 11-2

Roshen Silva and Joshua Pistorius were the new batsmen with task to rebuild the innings, things were going alriight until Joshua Pistorius was caught behind by James Bradley off Alec McGloughlin for 7 (17 balls), 22-3. Zayn Wadiwala came in next and with Silva were showing the beginings of the good score.

The introduction of Rory Urquhart into the attack saw Zayn Wadiwala caught by Alex Urquhart off Rory for 28 (66 balls), 75-4, new batsman Harry Barclay soon followed caught by Alec McGloughlin off Rory Urquhart for 2 (15 balls), 79-5.

Edwin Moulton came to join Silva and their partnership was 61 broken by Mitch Bolus having Roshen Silva caught behind by James Bradley for 66 (112 balls), 140-6. We were in the last two overs and Chorley were chasing the runs, new batsman Ben Silmpkins was out caught behind by James Bradley off Mitch Bolus for 3 (3 balls), 146-7.

Number Nine James Dunn did not trouble the scorer out caught by Nathan Armstrong off Alec McGloughlin for 0 (2 balls), 153-8, Edwin Moulton 31no (60 balls) and new partner Sam Steeple 0no (1 ball) saw Chorley close on 154-8 in their 50 overs.

The St Annes bowling was Rory Urquhart 2-15 from 6 overs, Mitch Bolus 2-22 off 8, Alec McGloughlin 2-54 from 13, Tom Higson 0-23 off 8 and Lukman Vahaluwala 0-31 from 15

Yohan De Silva and Lukman Vahaluwala opened for the hosts, the St Annes innings was a disaster losing eight wickets for only three runs, Yohan De Silva was the first to go caught by Will Moulton off Edwin Moulton for 7 (16 balls), 16-1, without addition to the score fellow opener Lukman Vahaluwala was caught behind by Harry Barclay off Will Moulton for 4 (23 balls), 16-2.

Number three batman Nathan Bolus came to the wicket and saw the procession at the other end, Tom Higson was next in and was out caught by Joshua Pistorius off Edwin Moulton for 1 (6 balls), 17-3, new batsman Nathan Armstrong was bowled second ball by Will Moulton for 0, 18-4

What followed was four wickets fall without addition, Edwin Moulton taking 3 wickets in four balls, first Alec McGloughlin caught behind by Harry Barclay for 1 (9 balls), 19-5, next James Bradley caught by Alfie Dobson for 0 (1 ball), 19-6, two balls later Mitch Bolus caught behind by Harry Barclay for 0, 19-7.

In Edwin Moulton's next over he bowled number nine Ryan Birkman for 0 (6 balls), 19-8. Rory Urquhart joined Nathan Bolus, The St Annes innings closed on 33-9 in 20.5 overs with Nathan Bolus out caught by Roshen Silva off James Dunn for 12 (41 balls), Rory Urquhart was 1no (7 balls).

St Annes had only ten batsmen due to Alex Urquhart being unable to bat due to a hand injury

The figures for Edwin Moulton were ten overs 6 maidens 9 runs and 6 wickets, the other bowling was Will Moulton 2-12 from 10 overs and James Dunn 1-5 off 0.5
