The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 21 of the Northern Premier League saw the top three all win along with Leyland Netherfield and St Annes

The title race goes to the last day with Chorley 3 points ahead of Kendal and Champions Garstang 10 pionts further behind.

Eccleston (Chorley) v Kendal

Eccleston (Chorley) won the toss at Doctors Lanes and chose to bat first, Thomas Wilkinson and Thomas Foster opened for the hosts, Toby Tyson made the breakthrough having Thomas Foster caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 3 (29 balls), 11-1

Alex Brooks was in at three but was soon out bowled by Max Winskill for 1 (9 balls), 14-2, Matthew Ashcroft was the new batsman but with only four runs added Toby Tyson took two wickets, Thomas Wilkinson trapped lbw for 9 (42 balls), 18-3, Number five Cameron Smith was out first ball also lbw for 0, 18-4

Reece Thomas was in next and soon became Toby Tyson's next victim once again lbw for 0 (5 balls), 21-5. Adam Norris joined Matthew Ashcroft and they dug to try and turn the game around, their partnership was broken by Freddie Fallows, Matthew Ashcroft caught by Chris Miller for 14 (28 balls), 33-6.

Nick Fowler replaced Ashcroft and continued the fight, They took the score passed the fifty then lost Nick Fowler lbw to Freddie Fallows for 8 (26 balls), 56-7. Freddie Fallows then cleaned up the hosts tail all lbw, Lee Heyes 3 (balls), 62-8, Daniel Flannigan 0 (1 ball), 62-9. He claimed his fifth wicket Jack McKenna for 5 (19 balls) as Eccleston (Chorley) were 70 all out in 39.5 overs. Adam Norris was 16no (72 balls)

The Kendal bowling was Freddie Fallows 5-10 from 9.5 overs, Toby Tyson 4-4 off 10, Max Winskill 1-18 from 5, Kuldeep Singh 0-11 off 6, Chris Miller 0-12 from 12 and Louis Backhouse 0-12 off 3

The Kendal openers were Freddie Fallows and Oliver Tyson, The hosts had an early success with Oliver Tyson lbw (the eighth of the match) to Thomas Wilkinson for 0 (6 balls), Max Winskill 14 (27 balls) joined Freddie Fallows 56 (29 balls) who saw the visitors home on 74-1 in 10.2 overs

The Eccleston (Chorley) bowling was Thomas Wilkinson 1-27 from 3 overs, Thomas Foster 0-11 off 1.2, Nick Fowler 0-16 from 4 and Cameron Smith 0-16 off 2

Fleetwood v Chorley

Chorley won the toss at Broadwater and put the hosts into bat, Fleetwood were bowled out for 107 in 47.2 overs, Only two batsmen made double figures Adam Sharrocks 40 and Atiq Uz Zaman 29

The wickets were shared amongst the Chorley bowlers, Sam Steeple took 3-33 from 13 overs, Joshua Pistorius 2-13 off 5.2, Edwin Moulton 2-17 from 11, Will Moulton 2-26 off 15 and James Dunn 1-14 from 3

In reply the visitors lost Will Moulton bowled by Declan Clerkin for 2 and Alfie Dobson bowled by Rizwan Patel for 22. That was the only success for the hosts as Joshua Pistorius 47no and Roshen Silva 27no saw the visitors home on 110-2 in 34.2 overs.

For Fleetwood Declan Clerkin took 1-16 from 11 overs, Rizwan Patel 1-38 off 12, Jack Wilkinson 0-6from 1, Will Reader 0-8 off 3.2 and Jeremy Davies 0-33 from 7

This win means that if Chorley win their home game against Longridge next weekend then they will be Champions for the first time.

Fulwood & Broughton v St Annes

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and asked the visitors to bat first, Yohan De Silva and Luke Jardine were the openers, Yohan De Silva was the first man out caught by Ben Rosbottom off Khalil Patel for 9 (13 balls), 10-1, Nathan Bolus was the visitors number three but lost his partner Luke Jardine caught by Matthew Smith off Khalil Patel for 7 (16 balls), 17-2.

Tom Higson was next in but on 7 (15 balls) Jon Fenton had him caught by Muhammad Zaid, 24-3. Nathan Armstrong joined Nathan Bolus and they began to rebuild the innings, they looked to be turning the game around when there was the loss of two quick wickets, Nathan Bolus was caught by Chris Brookes off Hareen Buddila for 16 (44 balls), 42-5, one run later new batsman Alec McGlouglin fell caught by Ben Rosbottom off Khalil Patel for 0 (3 balls), 43-5

Lukman Vahaluwala joined Nathan Armstrong and they took the score past the hundred, Hareen Buddila claimed both their wickets, first Nathan Armstrong caught by Khalil Patel for 35 (69 balls), 117-6, five runs later he had Lukman Vahaluwala stumped by James McWilliam for 38 (74 balls), 122-7.

The two new batsmen were Harry Birkman and Mitch Bolus, they were both out with the score on 135, Mitch Bolus being caught by Chris Brookes off Jon Fenton for 11 (11 balls) 135-8, Harry Birkman became Hareen Buddila's fourth victim caught by Ben Parkinson for 2 (13 balls), 135-9.

St Annes were bowled out for 148 in 47.5 overs when Khalil Patel had Ryan Birkman caught by Hareen Buddila for 10 (15 balls), James Bradley was 3no (15 balls).

Hareen Buddila took 4-29 from 15 overs, Khalil Patel 4-43 off 12.5, Jon Fenton 2-35 from 11, James Lupton 0-16 off 6 and Chris Brookes 0-20 from 3.

Matthew Smith and Jon Fenton opened for the hosts but got off to a bad start Alec McGloughlin having Jon Fenton caught behind by James Bradley for 0 (1 ball), 4-1, Number three Ben Rosbottom soon followed caught behind by James Bradley off Lukman Vahaluwala for 1 (7 balls), 12-2

Hareen Buddila was next in, Matthew Smith was scoring at nearly a run a ball but on 27 (31 balls) he was caught behind by James Bradley off Alec McGloughlin, 31-3, James McWilliam came in and continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over, however with the partnership on 50 Tom Higson broke through having James McWilliam caught by Yohan De Silva for 28 (31 balls), 81-4

Muhammad Zaid replaced McWilliam and dug in but on reaching 6 (25 balls) he was out lbw to Yohan De Silva, 93-5. The new batsman in was Ben Parkinson, Lukman Valahuwala then took over taking five wickets with only eight runs added to the total.

His first victim was Hareen Buddila lbw for 30 (69 balls), 98-6, new batsman James Lupton was also out lbw for 1 (14 balls), 100-7, Ben Parkinson was wicket number three bowled for 1 (15 balls), 101-8, Dom Jackson followed next ball bowled for 0 (1 ball), 101-9

The Fulwood & Broughton innings came to a close on 106 in 38 overs with Khalil Patel caught by Yohan De Silva of Lukman Vahaluwala for 1 (27 balls) with Chris Brookes 1no (9 balls).

Lukman Vahaluwala's figures were 13 overs 7 maidens 17 runs 6 wickets supported by Alec McGloughlin 2-23 off 7, Yohan De Silva 1-11 from 4,Tom Higson 1-26 off 12 and Mitch Bolus 0-25 from 2

Leyland v Blackpool

Blackpool won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and invited the hosts to bat first, Zak Willox and Karl Croos opened and gave them a good start broken when Karl Cross was caught behind by Ben Howarth off Jamie Thomson for 22 (38 balls), 57-1.

Jacob Wright came in at three and found runs hard to come by, disaster struck for the hosts losing two wickets with the score on 82, Jacob Wright was caught by Josh Boyne off Shivam Chaudhary for 9 (30 balls), 82-2, Zak Willox followed caught by Shivam Chuadhary off Josh Boyne for 37 (83 balls), 83-3.

Geeth Kumara and Andrew Makinson were the new batsman, Geeth Kumara was soon out caught by Kasim Munir off Josh Boyne for 7 (18 balls), 93-4. James Critchley joined Makinson and they were making steady progress until James Critchley was caught and bowled by Matthew Grindley for 17 (34 balls), 127-5.

James Rounding replaced Critchley but was trapped lbw by Josh Boyne for 8 (7 balls), 136-6. next in was Adam Sexton and with Makinson were going along nicely until Andrew Makinson was caught by William Vause off Shivam Chaudhary for 39 (66 balls), 166-7.

Iain Critchley replaced Makinson and was out on the last ball of their 50 overs for 5 (7 balls) as Leyland closed on 173-8 with Adam Sexton 12no (18 balls).

The bowling for Blackpool was Josh Boyne 3-36 from 15 overs, Shivam Chaudhary 2-40 off 15, Matthew Grindley 2-41 from 11, Jamie Thomson 1-20 off 5 and William Vause 0-21 from 4

Tomas King and Kasim Munir opened for the vistiors, Andrew Jacques broke the partnership bowling Tomas King for 15 (15 balls), 15-1, in at three was Shivam Chaudhary, with only eight runs added Andrew Jacques claimed two wickets in three balls, bowling Shivam Chaudhary for 7 (11 balls), 23-2, and two balls later bowling Josh Boyne for 0 (2 balls), 23-3.

Dylan Henshall came in next but five runs later history repeated its self with two wickets falling on the same score, Iain Critchley bowled Dylan Hensall for 4 (10 balls) 28-4, Andrew Jacques had Kasim Munir caught behind by Adam Sexton for 2 (29 balls), 28-5.

Jake Muncaster and Ben Howarth were the new batsmen, Blackpool were in trouble and things did not get any better, Ben Howarth was out lbw to Iain Critchley for 2 (13 balls), 31-6. For the second time this innings two wickets fell on the same score with Andrew Jacques claiming wickets five and six, Jake Muncaster was stumped by Adam Sexton for 0 (19 balls), 35-7, two balls later he bowled William Vause for 0 (2 balls), 35-8

Matthew Grindley and Paul Danson dug in but for the third time they were both out on the same score, Joe Shackleton bowled Paul Danson for 9 (27 balls) 62-9 and with the first ball of the next over Matthew Grindley was caught by Joe Shackleton off Geeth Kumara for 19 (32 balls) as Blackpool were bowled out for 62 in 26.1 overs with Jamie Thomson 0no.

Andrew Jacuqes had figures of 6-28 from 11 overs, Iain Critchley 2-23 off 11, Joe Shackleton 1-4 from 2 and Geeth Kumara 1-6 off 2.1

Longridge v Garstang

Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and chose to bat first, Joshua Mullin and Tom Howarth were the openers, their partnership was broken by Danny Gilbert bowling Joshua Mullin for 9 (17 blls), 21-1

Matthew De Villiers came in at three but with the total on 48 he was bowled by Joel Anthony Derham for 8 (14 balls), 48-2, Zac Christie was the new batsman, he lost Tom Howarth bowled by Danny Gilbert for 30 (60 balls), 50-3.

Luke Platt joined Zac Christie and they found runs hard to come by, Ian Walling made the breakthrough bowling Zac Christie for 9 (45 balls), 73-4. Zach Proctor was Luke Platt's new partner and they took the score past the hundred, Tom Wells ended the partnership having Luke Platt caught and bowled for 22 (74 balls), 117-5

Tom Turner was next in and increased the run rate, Danny Gilbert struck trapping Tom Turner lbw for 26 (23 balls), 168-7. we were now in the last over, new man James Whitehead was caught by Hugo Croft off Danny Gilbert for 3 (5 balls) 174-7.

Jake Durnell came in at nine and was run out on the last ball by Hugo Croft for 1 (4 balls) as Longridge closed on 180-8 in their 50 overs, Zach Proctor was 57no (59 balls).

All the Garstang bowlers took a wicket lead by Danny Gilbert 4-38 from 14 overs, Tom Wells 1-30 off 6, Joel Anthony Derham 1-35 from 15 and Ian Walling 1-65 off 15

Michael Walling and Luke Smith were the Garstang openers, Luke Smith was the first to go caught and bowled by Jake Durnell for 7 (18 balls), 17-1, number three was Matthew Crowther, Jake Durnell claimed his second wicket Michael Walling caught by Luke Platt for 24 (26 balls), 38-2.

The new batsman was Ashton Charles who lost his partner Matthew Crowther bowled by Jake Durnell for 7 (39 balls), 53-3, Ryan Pearson joined Charles and they had passed the hundred mark when Ashton Charles was out lbw to Matthew De Villiers for 32 (65 balls), 113-4

Hugo Croft replaced Charles and with Pearson looked to be steering the hosts to victory until Zach Proctor had Hugo Croft caught behind by Tom Turner for 19 (36 balls), 163-5. Tom Wells 6no (12 balls) and Ryan Pearson 72no (83 balls) saw the hosts to victory on 181-5 in 46.2 overs.

For Longridge Jake Durnell took 3-50 from 15 overs, Matthew De Villiers 1-24 off 7, Zach Proctor 1-27 from 5, Matt Greenall 0-27 off 10, Caleb Bradford 0-43 from 9 and James Whitehead 0-1 off 0.2

This win keeps the champions hopes alive going into the last set of matches.

Netherfield v Penrith

Netherfield won the toss at Parkside Road and decided to bat first, Josh Dixon and Reece Irving opened were going very well until Harsha Vithana had Reece Irving lbw for 28 (45 balls), 80-1, two balls later Vithana had Aryan Varsani lbw for 0 (2 balls), 80-2.

Ben Barrow was the new batsman and the partnership with Josh Dixon was thirty when Harsha Vithana had Josh Dixon stumped by Sulosan Thiru for 41 (72 balls), 110-3.

Theo Gallagher joined Barrow and they took control of the match, their partnership of 136 broken with Theo Gallagher caught by Owen Jones off Greg Cameron for 48 (73 balls), 246-4. Will Beeden 2no (2 balls) was the new batsman and with Ben Barrow 103no (108 balls) saw the hosts close on 280-4 in their 50 overs.

The Penrith bowling was Harsha Vithana 3-69 from 15 overs, Greg Cameron 1-69 off 15, James Bowman 0-26 from 3, Andrei Carp 0-22 off 7 and Finlay Hansford 0-53 from 10

The Penrith reply got off to a disastrous start with Samuel Medhurst taking two wickets in two balls, firstly Owen Jones was bowled for 0 (2 balls), 2-1. next ball Harsha Vithana was lbw for 0, 2-2. James Bowman joined Sulosan Thiru, Matt Jackson struck having Sulosan Thiru caught and bowled for 6 (9 balls), 6-3

Greg Cameron was Bowman's new partner but was soon out caught by Sagar Udeshi off Samuel Medhurst for 8 (10 balls), 15-4. Ollie Greenwodd was next in but became Samuel Medhurst's fourth wicket caught behind by Will Beeden for 0 (15 balls), 23-5.

Alister Craig joined James Bowman and they looked to be making head way when Sagar Udeshi had James Bowman caught by Ben Barrow for 27 (40 balls), 51-6, Ben Littleton came in next but with only four runs added two wickets fell, Alister Craig bowled by Isaac Medhurst for 10 (22 balls), 55-7, two balls later Isaac Medhurst bowled Dan Jones for 0 (2 balls), 55-8.

Sagar Udeshi cleaned up the Penrith tail, Finlay Hansford caught by Theo Gallager for 8 (5 balls), 64-9 and finally having Andrei Carp stumped by Will Beeden for 0 (3 balls) as Penrith were bowled out for 72 in 21.3 overs with Ben Littleton 13 no (11 balls).

All the Netherfield bowlers took a wicket with Samuel Medhurst leading the way with 4-18 from 7 overs, Sagar Udeshi 3-27 off 6.3, Isaac Medhurst 2-14 from 4 and Matt Jackson 1-14 off 4
