The Northern Cricket League Review

Round three in Northern Premier League 2023 season on Coronation Day saw Kendal with the only 100% record as the game at Chorley was abandoned, The other winners on the day were Leyland, Longridge Netherfield and St Annes

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool v Kendal

Blackpool won the toss at Stanley Park and invited the visitors to bat first, Freddie Fallows and Oliver Tyson opened, in the fifth over Matthew Grindley took wickets with successive balls, Firstly Oliver Tyson was bowled for 4 (14 balls) 17-1, next ball he bowled Bradley Earl for 0 (1 ball) 17-2

Rongsen Jonathan was in at three but was run out for 2 (1 ball) by Jamie Thomson, 19-3, Finlay Richardson joined Freddie Fallows and they battled to move the score on, Mathhew Grindley broke the partnership bowling Freddie Fallows for 26 (54 balls) 38-4

Sam Fletcher was in next and with Richardson kept the scoreboard ticking over until once again Matthew Grindley struck bowling Finlay Richardson for 21 (70 balls), 65-5, Lewis Richardson was Fletcher's next partner but with only eigtheen runs added he was bowled by William Vause for 12 (22 balls) 83-6

Chris Miller replaced Richardson and was scoring at nearly a run a ball when he became Wiiliam Vause's second victim bowled for 17 (22 balls) 115-7, Toby Tyson was the new batsmen but quickly fell caught behind by Ben Howarth off William Vause for 5 (8 balls) 123-8

Kuldeep Singh was in next, Sam Fletcher had kept one end going but now he was out stumped by Ben Howarth off Shivam Chaudhary for 38 (55 balls) 134-9,

Matthew Park came in at number 11, Kendal were bowled out for 152 in 47.5 overs when Kuldeep Singh was caught behind by Ben Howarth off Josh Boyne for 12 (24 balls) with Matthew Park 5no (17 balls)

Matthew Grindley was Blackpool's main wicket taker with 4-26 in 15 overs with William Vause 3-35 off 12, Josh Boyne 1-4 from 2.4 and Shivam Chaudhary 1-57 off 15

Blackpool openers Tomas King and Arran Lewin got the hosts off to a good start but with the score on 37 Tomas King was bowled by Toby Tyson for 25 (32 balls), 37-1

In at number three was Shivam Chaudhary but he soon lost his partner Arran Lewin caught by Chris Miller off Toby Tyson for 11 (37 balls) 46-2, next in was Josh Boyne but he was quickly out caught by Freddie Fallows off Kuldeep Singh for 0 (10 balls) 49-3

Dylan Henshall joined Chaudhary, with ten runs added Toby Tyson claimed his third victim Shivam Chaudhary lbw for 7 (27 balls), 59-4. Stuart Ashford replaced Chaudhary and saw Kuldeep Singh have Dyan Henshall caught by Lewis Richardson for 7 (12 balls) 61-5.

Ben Howarth came to the wicket with the home side needing over ninety runs with half the side in the pavillion, Toby Tyson broke the back of the Blackpool innings taking three wickets, first to go was Stuart Ashford lbw for 1 (13 balls) 63-6. next Ben Howarth bowled for 0 (7 balls) 64-7 and lastly William Vause bowled for 2 (12 balls) 65-8

Thw two new batsmen were Matthew Gindley and Paul Danson, Kuldeep Singh took over from his opening partner bowling Paul Danson for 1 (6 balls) 68-9, he then closed the Blackpool innings having last man Jamie Thomson caught by Lewis Richardson for (6 balls) 74 all out in 28.5 overs. Matthew Grindley was undefeated on 7 (13 balls).

The Kendal opening pair's figures were Toby Tyson took 6-29 from 14 overs with Kuldeep Singh 4-34 off 14.5.

Chorley v Garstang

Garstang won the toss at Windsor Park and put the hosts into bat, Chorley were bowled out for 164 in 45 overs, Top scorer was Roshen Silva 66 with Will Moulton 46 and Joshua Pistorius 23

Joel Anthony Derham took 5-59 from 14 overs and Danny Gilbert 4-45 off 15 doing the damage for the visitors.

Only 2.2 overs were bowled when the game was abandoned with the visitors 1-1 Ashton Charles bowled for 0 by Edwin Moulton

Fleetwood v Longridge

Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and asked the visitors to bat first, James Whitehead and Joshua Mullin opened , Tiaan Vuuren struck in the first over having James Whitehead caught behind by Harry McAleer for 0 (4 balls) 0-1

The visitors number three was Zac Christie and with Joshua Mullin had the scoreboard ticking over nicely until Rizwan Patle trapped Zac Christie lbw for 22 (65 balls), 58-2. Matthew De Villiers was in next but was soon out caught by Adam Sharrocks off Declan Clerkin for 0 (7 balls) 63-3

Luke Platt joined Mullin only to see his partner fall caught by Andy Drake off Declan Clerkin for 40 (88 balls) 68-4, Zach Proctor was Luke Platt's next partner and they had taken the partnership to 40, it was broken by Tiaan Van Vuuren who had Luke Platt caught behind by Harry McAleer for 10 (48 balls) 108-5

Tiaan Van Vuuren had new batsman Tom Turner caught behind by Harry McAleer for 0 (1 ball) 108-6. Tom Howarth came to the wicket and was on 17 (15 balls) when he fell to the Van Vuuren/McAleer combination, 132-7

Jake Durnell was next in but lost his partner Luke Platt 27 (58 balls) who became the fifth victim for both bowler Tiaan Van Vuuren and wicketkeeper Harry McAleer combination

Declan Clerkin had Jake Durnell lbw for 10 (11 balls) 149-9, The innings closed with Longridge on 150-9 in their 50 overs with Caleb Bradford 3 (4 balls) and Matt Greenall 1 (1 ball) the two not out batsmen

For Fleetwood Tiaan Van Vuuren took 5-48 from 14 overs, Declan Clerkin 3-31 off 14, Rizwan Patel 1-22 from 11, Jeremy Davies 0-10 off 5 and Jack Wilkinson 0-23 from 6

Andy Drake and Jeremy Davies opened with a partnership of 21 broken by Matt Greenall bowling Jeremy Davies for 10 (17 balls), 21-1, Number three Harry McAleer fell to Matthew De Villiers lbw for 1 (5 balls), 26-2.

Tiaan Van Vuuren came in next but quickly lost Andy Drake lbw to Matthew De Villiers for 17 (25 balls) 29-3, Matt Greenall accounted for new batsman Charlie Clark bowling him for 0 (5 balls) 30-4.

Declan Clerkin replaced Clark and with Van Vuuren were giving the hosts hope but Matt Greenall had other idea's taking two quick wickets, he had Declan Clerkin caught by Zac Christie for 20 (43 balls) 94-4, then he bowled Joseph Davis for 0 (3 balls) 94-5.

Adam Sharrocks joined Tiaan Van Vuuren and they were giving the hosts hope until Jake Durnell turned the game in the visitors favour, he had Adam Sharrocks caught behind by Tom Turner for 12 (28 balls) 122--6. what followed was match changing he caught and bowled Tiaan Van Vuuren for 68 (98 balls), 137-8

Fourteen runs required with two wickets in hand was the scenario, nine runs from victory Jake Durnell struck having Nathan Bend caught behind by Tom Turner for 11 (10 balls) 142-9, then with four runs required he had Rizwan Patel caught by Matthew De Villiers for 4 (14 balls) as Fleetwood were 147 alll out in 42 overs, Jack Wilkinson was 1no (3 balls)

Jake Durnell's figures were 4-30 from 12 overs, Matt Greenall 4-49 off 11, Matthew De Villiers 2-45 from 14 and Caleb Bradford 0-21 off 5

Fulwood & Broughton v Netherfield

Netherfield won the toss at the Highfield ground and invited the hosts to bat first, Jon Fenton and Zakaria Patel opened, Louis Backhouse bowled Zakaria Petal for 0 (7 balls) 6-1, Simon Kerrigan was the hosts number three, with only thirteen runs added Isaac Medhurst bowled Jon Fenton for 11 (26 balls) 19-2

The new batsman was Hareen Buddilia and with Simon Kerrigan were moving the score along nicely until Louis Backhouse had Buddilia caught by Isaac Medhurst for 23 (43 balls) 69-3, Backhouse then removed new man Muhammad Zaid caught by Oli Wileman for 1 (9balls) 74-4

Ben Parkinson was Kerrigan's next partner but was soon out bowled by Oli Wileman for 4 (12 balls) 84-5, Oli Wileman took the vital wicket of Simon Kerrigan caught by Josh Dixon for 46 (74 balls) 91-6

Sagar Udeshi took center stage taking the last four wickets, the first to go was Javaid Hussain stumped by Will Beeden for 1 (4 balls), the next to fall was James Lupton lbw for 1 (2 balls) 98-8

Ninth man out was Dom Jackson caught by Josh Dixon for 0 (2 balls) 100-9. Fulwood & Broughton were bowled out for 101 in 36.1 overs with James McWilliam caught and bowled by Udeshi for 4 (24 balls), Chris Brookes 0 (6 balls) was the not out batsman.

For Netherfield Sagar Udeshi took 4-26 from 13.1 overs, Louis Backhouse 3-25 off 9, Oli Wileman 2-10 from 4, Isaac Medhurst 1-27 off 5 and Matt Jackson 0-6 from 5

Josh Dixon and Ben Barrow began the reply but on reaching 23 Josh Dixon was bowled by Chris Brookes for 9 (20 balls) 23-1, new man Reece Irving did not last long lbw to Hareen Buddilia for 2 (7 balls), 30-2

Ben Barrow was the next to go caught and bowled by Hareen Buddilia for 18 (31 balls) 39-3. Aryan Varsani and Steven Fisher were the new batsmen but were parted by Simon Kerrigan having Varsani caught by Dom Jackson for 16 (16 balls) 53-4.

Will Beeden joined Fisher but with only ten runs added Beeden was caught by Simon Kerrigan off Dom Jackson for 5 (14 balls) 63-5, Sagar Udeshi was next in but fell to the caught Kerrigan bowled Jackson combination for 7 (9 balls) 81-6.

Oli Wileman came to the wicket and with Steven Fisher took the vistors within two runs of victory when James Luton took two wickets in two balls, He had Steven Fisher caught by Zakaria Patel for 24 (55 balls)100-7, next ball Isaac Medhurst was caught by Javaid Hussain for 0 (1 ball) 100-8.

Louis Backhouse 0 (3 balls) was in at ten and with Oli Wileman 20no (26 balls) saw the visitors home on 104-8 in 30.2 overs

For Fulwood & Broughton James Lupton 2-2 from 2 overs, Dom Jackson 2-18 off 5, Hareen Buddilia 2-41 from 10, Chris Brookes 1-4 off 3, Simon Kerrigan 1-8 from 4, Jon Fenton 0-24 off 6 and Muhammad Zaid 0-4 from 0.2

Leyland v Eccleston (Chorley)

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and asked the visitors to bat first, Thomas Wilkinson and Martyn James Brierley openeded but were soon parted as Kurtis Watson bowled Thomas Wilkinson for 0 (4 balls) 2-1

Matthew Ashcroft came in at three and was quickly out bowled by Kerwin Mungroo for 0 (7 balls), 9-2, next in was Thomas Foster who lost his partner Martyn James Brierley caught behind by Adam Sexton off Kerwin Mungroo for 12 (20 balls) 16-3

Nathan McDonnell replaced Brierley, disaster struck fro the visitors with the loss of three quick wickets, Kerwin Mungroo taking two of them, firstly Thomas Foster was caught behind by Adam Sexton for 8 (20 balls) 24-4, followed shortly afterwards with Adam Norris caught by Zac Willox for 0 (4 balls) 25-5

Reece Thomas joined Nathan McDonnell, Kurtis Watson struck having Nathan McDonnell caught behind by Adam Sexton for 1 (17 balls) 27-6, the new batsman was Michael Atkinson and with Thomas began to try and rebuild the innings but Kurtis Watson broke the partnership by having Atkinson caught behind by Adam Sexton for 6 (14 balls) 43-7

Jordan Bentham replaced Atkinson but with only two runs added Kerwin Mungroo claimed two wickets, Reece Thomas was caught by Luke Hands for 9 (16 balls) 45-8, two balls later new batsman Cameron Smith was trapped lbw for 0 (2 balls) 45-9

The Eccleston (Chorley) innings came to an end with Kerwin Mungroo claiming his seventh wicket bowling Jordan Bentham for 1 (11 balls) as the visitors were 51 all out in 19.5 overs with Nick Fowler 4no (8 balls)

The Leyland bowling figures were Kerwin Mungroo 7-21 from 9.5 overs and Kurtis Watson 3-25 off 10

Jacob Wright and James Rounding opened and took the score to 35 when both were out, Jacob Wright was the first to go lbw to Nathan McDonnell for 11 (17 balls) 35-1, James Rounding followed also lbw to Nick Fowler for 22 (22 balls) 35-2

The two new batsmen were Zac Willox and Kurtis Watson, with victory in sight Zac Willox was stumped by Adam Norris off Nathan McDonnell for 8 (16 balls) 48-3.

James Critchley was next in hitting his second ball for six to see the hosts home on 54-3 in 10 overs, Kurtis Watson was 4no (4 balls).

For Eccleston (Chorley) Nathan McDonnell took 2-14 from 3, Nick Fowler 1-8 off 2, Richard Thomas 0-12 from 3 and Cameron Smith 0-18 off 2.

St Annes v Penrith

Penrith won the toss at Vernon Road and put the hosts into bat, Tom Higson and Yohan De Silva gave the home side a brilliant start with an opening partnership of 106 broken by Greg Cameron having Tom Higson caught by Owen Jones for 59 (55 balls), 106-1

The St Annes number three was Lukman Vahaluwala and with De Silva had a partnership of 71, Lukman Vahaluwala fell lbw to Harsha Vithana for 31 (54 balls) 177-2, Luke Jardine replaced Vahaluwala and with De Silva took the score past the two hundred, with his score on 94 (157 balls) Yohan De Silva was caught behind by Alister Craig off Samuel Hall, 218-3

Nathan Bolus came in next and with only two runs added lost partner Luke Jardine caught by Harsha Vithana off James Ellis for 24 (18 balls) 220-4, St Annes were going for quick runs which resulted in the loss of wickets. Nathan Bolus was caught by Owen Jones off Samuel Hall for 1 (4 balls) 224-5

Harry Birkman was the next to go to the same combination caught Jones bowled Hall for 2 (5 balls) 225-6. James Ellis cashed in on the chase taking two wickets, Nathan Armstrong bowled for 1 (3 balls), 227-7, followed by Mitch Bolus caught Harsha Vithana for 0 (2 balls) 227-8

The St Annes innings closed on 227-8 in their 50 overs with Gurman Bains 1no (1 ball) and James Bradley 0no (1 ball)

Samuel Hall took 3-51 from 8, James Ellis took 3-56 off 10, Harsha Vithana 1-44 from 14, Greg Cameron 1-49 off 15 and Dylan Simpson 0-16 from 2

Ollie Greenwood and Alister Craig opened but were soon parted, Harry Birkman having Alister Craig caught behind by James Bradley for 2 (11 balls) 6-1. Harsha Vithana was in at three and with Greenwood were making steady progress until Vithana was caught by Gurman Bains off Mitch Bolus for 13 (28 balls) 30-2

The next man in was Greg Cameron, diasaster struck for the visitors with Keith Reid running out Ollie Greenwood for 13 (51 balls) 35-3, James Bowman joined Cameron, Tom Higson broke their partnership having Greg Cameron caught by Nathan Bolus for 10 (17 balls) 49-4

Owen Jones replaced Cameron, with his score on 8 (14 balls) he was out caught by Lukman Vahaluwala off Yohan De Silva for 8 (16 balls) 70-5. Tom Higson accounted for the new batsman Samuel Hall bowling him for 2 (15 balls) 77-6

James Ellis came in next, James Bowman had been holding firm but he was next to go caught by Gurman Bains off Yohan De Siva for 24 (40 balls), 83-7, Dylan Simpson was Ellis's next partner but with ten runs added Tom Higson bowled James Ellis for 6 (21 balls) 93-8

Nathan Ellwood came in at ten, the score was on 111 (nelson) when he was run out by Nathan Armstrong for 4 (10 balls) 111-9. The Penrith innings closed on 123 all out in 42.1 overs with Dylan Simpson caught by Yohan De Silva off Tom Higson for 29 (33 balls), Ben Johnston was 0no (12 balls)

Tom Higson was the main St Annes wicket taker with 4-41 from 14.1 overs, Yohan De Silva 2-26 off 9, Mitch Bolus 1-12 from 7, Harry Birkman 1-18 off 7 and Keith Reid 0-17 from 5
