The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 4 of the Northern Premier League saw league leaders Kendal continue on their winning ways, there were also wins for Blackpool, Chorley, Fleetwood, Fulwood & Broughton and Longridge.

Eccleston (Chorley) v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Doctors Lane ground and elected to bat first, Jon Fenton and Richard Turner opened for the visitors but with the score on 9 Richard Turner was caught behind by Adam Norris off Reece Thomas for 1 (4 balls), 9-1

Number three for the visitors was Simon Kerrigan, the partnership with Jon Fenton was going well until Thomas Foster had Jon Fenton caiught by Michael Atkinson for 42 (90 balls), 99-2, Hareen Buddilla was in next but lost partner Simon Kerrigan bowled by Thomas Foster for 41 (113 balls) 110-3

Ben Parkinson replaced Kerrigan, with only eleven runs added Ben Parkinson was caught by Cameron Smith off Michael Atkinson for 7 (12 balls), 121-4, the new batsman was Muhammad Zaid but he quickly fell bowled by Thomas Foster for 2 (5 balls) 132-5

James McWilliam was in next but fell caught by Matthew Ashcroft off Michael Atkinson for 0 (5 balls) 133-6, disaster struck for the visitors with new man Lewis Wellings run out for 1 (3 balls) by Adam Norris, 136-7

Hareen Budilla's new partner was James Lupton and their partnership was broken by Michael Atkinson having James Lupton caught by Reece Thomas for 7 (11 balls), 156-7. Michael Atkinson claimed his fourth victim Hareen Buddilla caught behind by Adam Norris for 30 (44 balls), 157-9

Dom Jackson 6no (10 balls) and Chris Brookes 2no (5 balls) saw the visitors to close on 164-9 in their 50 overs

For Eccleston (Chorley) Michael Atkinson took 4-37 from 12 overs, Thomas Foster 3-29 off 10, Reece Thomas 1-17 from 9, Cameron Smith 0-15 off 7, Nathan McDonnell 0-20-from 6 and Nick Fowler 0-27 off 6

The hosts reply got off to a bad start losing three quick wickets, Chris Brookes bowled Adam Norris for 2 (10 balls) 3-1, new man Matthew Ashcroft was trapped lbw by Jon Fenton for 0 (6 balls), 4-2, Chris Brookes claimed his second victim Martyn James Brierley caught by Muhammad Zaid for 2 (20 balls), 6-3

Thomas Foster and Nathan McDonnell had the job of rebuilding the innings, they seemed to be settling in when Nathan McDonnell was out caught by Dom Jackson off Simon Kerrigan for 17 (42 balls), 31-4, Hareen Buddilla accounted for new batsman Michael Atkinson caught by Simon Kerrigan for 0 (3 balls), 32-5

Reece Thomas joined Thomas Foster, their partnership was 33 when it was broken by Simon Kerrigan having Reece Thomas caught by Hareen Buddilla for 17 (24 balls), 64-6,

Simon Kerrigan accounted for the next two batsman, Jordan Bentham bowled for 8 ( 9 balls), 75-7, followed by Nick Fowler caught by Hareen Buddilla for 2 (9 balls) 85-8. Thomas Foster was battling at one end and with Iain Bradley saw the hosts pass 100.

Hareen Buddilla brought the Eccleston (Chorley) innings to a close having Iain Bradley lbw for 7 (14 balls), 102-9, the innings closed on 113 in 45.2 overs with Buddilla bowling Cameron Smith for 0 (13 balls). Thomas Foster was undefeated on 54 (123 balls).

For the vistors Simon Kerrigan took 4-34 form 13 overs, Hareen Buddilla 3-26 off 10.2, Chris Brookes 2-1 from 7, Jon Fenton 1-11 off 5, James Lupton 0-13 from 5 and Dom Jackson 0-25 off 5

Garstang v Blackpool

Garstang won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and invited the visitors to bat first, Tomas King and Arran Lewin opened but with the score on 29 Tomas King was caught by Hugo Croft off Waris Khan for 26 (23 balls), 29-1

Shivam Chudhary came in at three and dominated the partnership which was broken by Joel Anthony Derham having Arran Lewin caught by Tom Wells for 2 (67 balls) 74-2, Josh Boyne came in next and with Chaudhary moved the score onto 117 when Boyne was caught behind by Matthew Crowther off Waris Khan for 16 (39 balls), 117-3

Jake Muncaster joined Chaudhary, their partnership of 34 ended with Muncaster falling to the Crowther/Khan combination, caught Crowther bowled Khan for 9 (25 Balls), 151-4. Stuart Ashford replaced Muncaster but was run out for 7 (11 balls) by Joel Anthony Derham, 185-5

Ben Howarth was next in, to the relief of the hosts Shivam Chaudhary fell run out by Danny Gilbert for 139 (113 balls) (13x4, 5x6) 211-6, Danny Gilbert had new batsman Matthew Grindley caught by Hugo Croft for 1 (4 balls) 217-7. Ben Howarth 11no (16 balls) and William Vause 1no (3 balls) saw the visitors innings close on 219-7 in their 50 overs

Waris Khan took 3-57 from 12 overs, Danny Gilbert 1-47 off 14, Joel Anthony Derham 1-54 from 13 and Ian Walling 0-56 off 11

Michael Walling and Ashton Charles opened for the hosts and both were out cheaply, Michael Walling the first to go bowled by William Vause for 1 (10 balls) 3-1, Ashton Charles followed bowled by Matthew Grindley for 0 (9 balls) 7-2

Things did not improve for the home side with Mark Walling out for 5 (10 balls) caught by Josh Boyne off Matthew Grindley, 10-3, Matthew Crowther and Tom Wells began the rebuild, their partnership was broken by Matthew Grindley having Crowther caught behind by Ben Howarth for 11 (35 balls), 36-4

Matthew Grindley swung the game in the visitors favour taking two wickets in successive balls, Tom Wells lbw for 13 (25 balls), 37-5, followed by Ian Walling lbw for 0 (1 ball) 37-6. Hugo Croft and Danny Gilbert began the fight back, but when Croft was 10 (34 balls) he was out caught by Matthew Grindley off Shivam Chaudhary, 76-7

Joel Anthony Derham joined Gilbert but with only seven runs added William Vause bowled Danny Gilbert for 34 (32 balls) 83-8, Ryan Pearson was unable to bat so it was down the the last pair Joel Anthony Derham and Waris Khan to try and save the day.

Mathew Grindley claiming his sixth wcket brought the innings to a close bowling Waris Khan for 19 (32 balls) as Garstang were 115 all out in 33.1 overs, Joel Anthony Derham was 11no (19 balls)

For Blackpool Matthew Grindley took 6-52 from 11.1 overs, William Vause 2-35 off 9, Shivam Chaudhary 1-18 from 5 and Steven Mercer 0-9 off 8

Kendal v St Annes

St Annes won the toss at Shap Road and put the hosts into bat, Freddie Fallows and Darren Nightingale opened but were soon parted by Lukman Vahaluwala who bowled Darren Nightingale for 1 (3 balls) 3-1

Oliver Tyson came in at three and with Freddie Fallows took the score past 100, they were separated by Mitch Bolus trapping Oliver Tyson lbw for 19 (50 balls), 104-2, Rongsen Jonathan was the new batsman and with Fallows put on 64 runs when Freddie Fallows was caught by Mitch Bolus off Keith Reid for 97 (78 balls), 168-3

Bradley Earl joined Jonathan and they were going along very nicely until Yohan De Silva had Rongsen Jonathan caught by Lukman Vahauwala for 60 (73 balls) 217-4, Sam Fletcher was next in and with Earl took the score to 265 when Bradley Earl was caught by Tom Higson off Lukman Vahaluwala for 59 (53 balls) 265-5

Lewis Richardson was the new batsman but with only seven runs added both he and Sam Fletcher were out, Sam Fletcher went first bowled by Lukman Vahaluwala for 25 (33 balls) 272-6, followed by Lewis Richardson run out by Mitch Bolus for 2 (2 balls), 272-7

Chris Miller 5no (5 balls) and Toby Tyson 3no (4 balls) saw the hosts close on 281 for 7 in their 50 overs

The St Annes bowlers were Lukman Vahauwala took 3-58 from 15 overs, Yohan De Silva 1-7 off 2, Mitch Bolus 1-46 from 7, Keith Reid 1-50 off 8, Harry Birkman 0-46 from 5 and Tom Higson 0-64 off 13

Chasing a big score the visitors needed a good start but unfortunately did not get one, Tom Higson and Yohan De Silva opened with Higson going early caught by Chris Miller off Toby Tyson for 12 (6 balls), 12-1

Toby Tyson accounted for Yohan De Silva having him caught by Rongsen Jonathan for 3 (11 balls), 19-2, Lukman Vahaluwala and Luke Jardine had a mountain to climb and slowly kept the score moving along until Chris Miller had Lukman Vahaluwala caught by Freddie Fallows for 21 (39 balls), 54-3

Nathan Bolus was Luke Jardine's next partner, Freddie Fallows made the visitors task more difficult by removing both batsmen, he trapped Luke Jardine for 14 (42 balls) 72-4, then he hand Nathan Bolus caught by Darren Nightingale for 16 (28 balls), 77-5

The two new batsmen were Nathan Armstrong and Harry Birkman, once again the batsmen had to fight for their runs, Chris Miller made the break through having Harry Birkman caught by Darren Nightingale for 8 (24 balls), 88-6. James Bradley was next in and battled away, he was out caught by Chris Miller off Lewis Richardson for 4 (25 balls), 123-7

Mitch Bolus replaced Bradley but quickly became Lewis Richardson's second victim caught by Rongsen Jonathan for 5 (5 balls), 139-8, Ryan Birkman was Armstrong's new partner but any hope of staving off defeat diminished when Nathan Armstrong was bowled by Chris Miller for 44 (64 balls), 149-9

Ryan Birkman had a few lusty hits but lost his partner Keith Reid lbw to Lewis Richardson for 2 (3 balls) as St Annes were 166 all out in 43.5 overs, Ryan Birkman was 19no (3x4, 1x6)

The wickets were shared amongst the Kendal bowlers, Lewis Richardson took 3-26 from 3.5 overs, Chris Miller 3-38 off 15, Freddie Fallows 2-25 from 9, Toby Tyson 2-43 off 7 and Matthew Park 0-16 from 9

Longridge v Leyland

Leyland won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and asked the hosts to bat first, James Whitehead and Joshua Mullin opened and with the score on 12 Joshua Mullin was caught by Kurtis Watson off Kerwin Mungroo for 7 (24 balls) 12-1

Matthew De Villiers came in at three but lost his partner James Whitehead caught behind by Adam Sexton off Kurtis Watson for 7 (31 balls), 23-2. Zac Christie was the new batsman and he was the third batsman to reach 7 and be out he was caught by Kurtis Watson off Andrew Jacques for 7 (15 balls), 40-3

Tom Turner replaced Christie but had only made 8 (17 balls) when he was bowled by Luke Hands, 56-4, Zach Proctor joined De Villiers and were going along nicely until Kerwin Mungroo had Turner caught behind by Adam Sexton for 18 (46 balls) 104-5

Tom Howarth was the new batsman and as before the partnership was making progress broken by Iain Critchley having Turner caught by James Rounding for 13 (19 balls) 131-6, Caleb Bradford was De Villiers new partner and became Iain Critchley's second victim bowled for 10 (21 balls) 150-7

Matthew De Villiers had been keeping one end going but he was the next wicket to fall bowled by Andrew Jacques for 67 (96 balls) 153-8, Iain Critchley caught and bowled Jake Durnell for 3 (10 balls) 157-9

Number eleven Matt Greenall was last out caught by Zak Willox off Iain Critchley for 1 (3 balls as Longridge were 159 all out in 48 overs, Jonathan Millward was 3no (11 balls)

For Leyland Iain Critchley took 4-32 from 11 overs, Kerwin Mungroo 2-40 off 12, Andrew Jacques 2-40 from 12, Luke Hands 1-17 off 5 and Kurtis Watson 1-24 from 8

James Rounding and Adam Sexton opened for the visitors but were soon parted, James Rounding caught by Zach Proctor off Jonathan Millward for 4 (13 balls), 4-1, Jonathan Millward also accounted for Adam Sexton lbw for 5 (23 balls) 19-2

Zak Willox and Kurtis Watson were the new batsmen and runs were hard to come by, Jake Durnell swung the game in the hosts favour taking three wickets, his first vitim was Kurtis Watson caught by James Whitehead for 2 (27 balls), 32-3, next Zak Willox caught by Caleb Bradford for 19 (76 balls), 37-4 and finally bowling James Critchley for 18 (36 balls), 55-5

The visitors were in trouble needing over one hundred runs with only five wickets in hand, Karl Cross and Andrew Makinson took on the task, with their partnership on 33 Jake Durnell claimed his fourth wicket Andrew Makinson caught by Tom Howarth for 9 (19 balls) 88-6

Luke Hands joined Karl Cross but fell to Caleb Bradford lbw for 8 (15 balls) 100-7, new batsman Kerwin Mungroo became Bradford's second victim bowled for 4 (12 balls), 107-8, Karl Cross was the visitors hope to save the match but he was out caught behind by Tom Turner off Matthew De Villiers for 36 (56 balls) 110-9

Longridge claimed victory with Matthew De Villiers trapped Andrew Jacques lbw for 1 (12 balls) as Leyland were 118 all out in 50.1 overs, Iain Critchley was 5no (12 balls)

Jake Durnell lead the way for the hosts with 4-25 from 15 overs, Jonathan Millward 2-9 off 14, Caleb Bradford 2-23 from 9, Matthew De Villiers 2-39 off 7.1 and Matt Greenall 0-16 from 5

Netherfield v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won the toss at the Parkside Road ground and chose to bat first, Andy Drake and Jeremy Davies opened, Jeremy Davies was first out bowled by Sagar Udeshi for 0 (11 balls), 3-1, number three was Harry McAleer who became Udeshi's second victim lbw for 10 (32 balls), 19-2

Tiaan Van Vuuren was the new batsman and with Andy Drake moved the score past fifty, Sagar Udeshi struck having Drake caught by Ben Barrow for 17 (71 balls), 54-3, Charlie Clark replaced Drake but was soon out caught behind by Will Beeden off Matt Jackson for 1 (14 balls), 62-4

Matt Jackson took two quick wickets, new batsman Declan Clerkin caught and bowled for 8 (12 balls), 74-5, he then bowled Tiaan Van Vuuren for 34 (56 balls) 77-6, things got worse for the visitors with the loss of Joseph Davis caught by Reece Irving off Sagar Udeshi for 2 (17 balls), 80-7

Fleetwood were in trouble, Adam Sharrocks and Nathan Bend set about rebuilding the innings, their partnership was 40 when Nathan Bend was caught by Josh Dixon off Louis Backhouse for 25 (22 balls), 120-8.

Rizwan Patel joined Sharrocks, Adam Sharrocks was next out caught behind by Will Beeden off Samuel Medhurst for 30 (51 balls), 137-9. Jack Wilkinson 1no (7 balls) came in at number eleven and with Rizwan Patel 8no (8 balls) saw the visitors close on 151-9 in their 50 overs

For Netherfield Sagar Udeshi took 4-26 from15 overs, Matt Jackson 3-31 off 10, Louis Backhouse 1-15 from 9, Samuel Medhurst 1-25 off 9 and Oli Wileman 0-32 from 7

The Netherfield reply got off to a diastrous start losing the top three batsmen to Tiaan Van Vuuren for 0, Josh Dixon was caught behind by Harry McAleer for 0 (5 balls), Ben Barrow was lbw for 0 (7 balls), Reece Irving was bowled for 0 (3 balls)

Aryan Varsani and Steven Fisher started the fight back but with the total on 20 Aryan Varsani was stumped by Harry McAleer off Declan Clarkin for 14 (19 balls), 20-4, Will Beeden joined Fisher and continued the fight, Jeremy Davies claimed two wickets in two balls to shatter any fight back.

The first to go was Steven Fisher bowled by Davies for 9 (48 balls) 42-5, next ball Oli Wileman was bowled for 0, 42-6, Sagar Udeshi was next in and was soon out lbw to Declan Clerkin for 7 (9 balls) 49-7.

Louis Backhouse joined Beeden but soon became victim number three for Jeremy Davies bowled for 1 (4 balls) 50-8, Will Beeden's fighting innings ended caught behind by Harry McAleer off Tiaan Van Vuuren for 18 (42 balls) 56-9

Jeremy Davies brought Fleetwood's first victory on returning to the league when he bowled Matt Jackson for 12 (12 balls) as Netherfield were 70 all out in 28.1 overs, Samuel Medhurst was 0no (20 balls).

The Fleetwood bowling was Jeremy Davies 4-13 from 7.1 overs, Tiaan Van Vuuren 4-31 off 10 and Declan Clerkin 2-19 from 11

Penrith v Chorley

Chorley won the toss at Tynefield Park and elected to bat first, Will Moulton and Alfie Dobson opened and gave the visitors a good start, Harsha Vithana broke the partnership trapping Will Moulton lbw for 30 (38 balls), 54-1

The visitors number three was Roshen Silva and with Dobson continued the good progress until Aflie Dobson suffered the same fate as his opening partner lbw to Harsha Vithana for 32 (88 balls) 96-2.

The new batsman was Joshua Pistorius, both he and partner Silva became Harsha Vithana victims, Roshen Silva was bowled for 32 (71 balls), 119-3, one run later Joshua Pistorius was bowled for 6 (29 balls), 120-4

Alexander Howarth and Joseph Tiffin were the new batsmen and both fell to Greg Cameron, Joseph Tiffin was caught by Dylan Simpson for 6 (10 balls), 130-5, Alexander Howarth fell lbw for 6 (15 balls), 133-6

Edwin Moulton and Andrew Holdsworth were the new partnership and had taken the score to 165 when Andrew Holdsworth was caught by Harsh Vithana off Greg Cameron for 14 (24 balls), 165-7, James Dunn was the next batsman and was run out for 0 (1 ball)

Edwin Moulton 16no (25 balls) and Ian Oakes 2no (6 balls) saw to visitors close on 170-8 in their 50 overs

Harsha Vithana was the hosts top wicket taker with 4-24 from 15 overs, Greg Cameron 3-47 off 10, James Ellis 0-15 from 6, James Bowman 0-17 off 5 and Samuel Hall 0-47 from 14

Ollie Greenwood and Dan Jones opened but were soon parted with Dan Jones out lbw to Will Moulton for 2 (11 balls), 12-1, Harsha Vithana came in at three but on reaching 19 (18 balls) he was caught behind by Andrew Holdsworth off Joshua Pistorius, 40-2

Greg Cameron joined Ollie Greenwood but with the total on 46 both men were out, Ollie Greenwood went first lbw to Matt Dawson for 19 (46 balls) 46-3, Greg Cameron followed lbw to Joshua Pistorius for 1 (14 balls) 46-4

James Bowman and Owen Jones were the new batsmen but with the fall of Owen Jones caught by Alfie Dobson off Matt Dawson for 5 (13 balls) 59-5 saw the collapse of the host's innings scoring only 15 more runs

Joshua Pistorius had new batsman Samuel Hall caught behind by Andrew Holdsworth for 3 (14 balls), 62-6, James Bowman followed caught behind by Andrew Holsworth off Matt Dawson for 8 (22 balls), 64-7

Matt Dawson then took two wickets in two balls, Dylan Simpson stumped by Andrew Holdsworth for 2 (7 balls), 67-8, next ball bowling Jamie O'Brien for 0, 67-9.

The Penrith innings came to a close on 74 all out in 27.5 overs with Ian Oakes bowling James Ellis for 9 (17 balls), Finlay Hansford was 1no (5 balls).

For Chorley Matt Dawson took 5-9 from 5 overs, Joshua Pistorius 3-16 off 8, Ian Oakes 1-7 from 0.5, Will Moulton 1-77 off 6, James Dunn 0-0 from 1 aand Edwin Moulton 0-21 off 5
