The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 5 of the Northern Premier League saw the battle of the top two with Kendal continuing with their 100% record with a win over Chorley , there were also wins for Fleetwood and Longridge with Blackpool, Garstang and Netherfield having winning draws.

Blackpool v St Annes

St Annes won the toss at Stanley Park and put the hosts into bat, They had early success Harry Birkman having Daniel Dixon caught behind by James Bradley for 0 (11 balls), 2-1

Shivam Chaudhary came in at number three and with Kasim Munir took the score to 47, Tom Higson trapped Kasim Munir lbw for 15 (53 balls) 47-2, Dylan Henshall was in next and with Chaudhary took the total past the hundred when Tom Higson had him caught by Nathan Bolus for 22 (22 balls) 103-3

Jake Muncaster replaced Henshall but quickley became Higson's second victim caught behind by James Bradley for 1 (10 balls) 107-4, the new batsman was Ben Howarth who let Shivam Chaudhary lead the way, Howarth fell caught behind by James Bradlwy off Harry Birkman for 8 (38 balls), 141-5

Chaudhary's new partner was Arran Lewin, Shivam Chaudhary had just made his second consecutive hundred when he was bowled by Harry Birkman for 101 (124 balls) 175-6. Matthew Grindley 9no (15 balls) joined Arran Lewin 12no (29 balls) and they saw the hosts close on 188-6 in their 50 overs

Harry Birkman took 3-35 from 14 overs, Tom Higson 3-52 off 11, Lukman Vahaluwala 0-42 from 15 and Yohan De Silva 0-42 off 10.

The visitors openers Tom Higson and Yohan De Silva got them off to a good start, their partnership broken by Wiilam Vause bowling Tom Higson for 24 (31 balls), 36-1. Lukman Vahaluwal was in at three but was bowled by William Vause for 0 (2 balls), 37-2

Luke Jardine joined De Silva but with only 17 runs added Matthew Grindley had Jardine caught by Dylan Henshall for 7 (29 balls), 54-3, Nathan Armstrong came to the wicket and with De Silva were going along nicely until Yohan De Silva was caught by Jamie Thomson off Matthew Grindley for 57 (116 balls), 115-4

Nathan Bolus became Armstrong's new partner and they looked to be moving the game in favour of the visitors until Nathan Armstrong was caught by Jamie Thomson off William Vause for 42 (84 balls) 161-5, Harry Birkman was in next but fell lbw to Shivam Chaudhary for 1 (2 balls), 174-6

Ryan Birkman 3no (4 balls) and Nathan Bolus 44no (36 balls) finished four runs short of victory as St Annes closed on 185-6 in their 50 overs

For Blackpool William Vause took 3-42 from 8 overs, Matthew Grindley 2-44 off 15, Shivam Chaudhary 1-40 from 15, Jamie Thomson 0-26 off 5 and Steven Mercer 0-30 from 7

Chorley v Kendal

Kendal won the toss at Windsor Park and invited the hosts to bat first, Will Moulton and Alfie Dobson were steadily going along until Will Moulton was caught and bowled by Freddie Fallows for 8 (32 balls), 30-1

Roshen Silva was the Chorley number three and with Dobson took the hosts past the hundred, Rongsen Jnathan broke the partnership having Alfie Dobson caught by Darren Nightingale for 58 (73 balls) 104-2. Joshua Pistorius was Silva's new partner but on reaching 13 (26 balls), he was out lbw to Toby Tyson, 134-3

Zayn Wadiwala replaced Pistorius but with only seven runs added he was caught by Lewis Richardson off Rongsen Jonathan for 4 (10 balls), 141-4, Alexander Howarth was next in but on 5 (14 balls), he was bowled by Toby Tyson, 150-5

Edwin Moulton 17no (22 balls) joined Roshen Silva 76no (123 (balls) and they saw the hosts close on 200-5 in their 50 overs

The Kendal bowling was Toby Tyson 2-39 from 15 overs, Rongsen Jonathan 2-52 off 14, Freddie Fallows 1-21 from 4, Lewis Richardson 0-17 off 5, Chris Miller 0-20 from 3 and Kuldeep Singh 0-32 off 9

The Kendal openers Freddie Fallows and Darren Nightingale were approaching the hundred partnership when they were both out on the same score, Freddie Fallows went first caught by Alfie Dobson off Ian Oakes for 36 (28 balls), 95-1, Darren Nightingale fell bowled by James Dunn for 57 (44 balls)(3x4 6x6), 95-2

James Dunn accounted for new batsman Oliver Tyson caught by Alexander Howarth for 1 (9 balls), 104-3. Bradley Earl joined Rongsen Jonathan and they quickley saw the visitors home on 202 for 3 in 25.1 overs, Bradley Earl was 59no (30 balls), 52 runs in boundaries, (7x4, 4x6) and Rongsen Jonathan 47no (40 balls) (4x4, 2x6)

The Chorley figures were James Dunn 2-27 from 5 overs, Ian Oakes 1-49 off 6, Will Moulton 0-25 from 5, Matt Dawson 0-26 off 2, Edwin Moulton 0-28 from 4 and Joshua Pistorius 0-45 off 3.1

Fleetwood v Leyland

Leyland won the toss at Broadwater and elected to bat first making 159-8 in their 50 overs, Zak Willox top scored with 59 supported by Jacob Wright 24 and Andrew Makinson 20

For Fleetwood Declan Clerkin took 3-30 from 15 overs, Tiaan Van Vuuren 3-53 off 15, Jeremy Davies 1-23 from 8, Rizwan Patel 1-24 off 7 and Jack Wilkinson 0-24 from 5

In reply Fleetwood knocked off the runs in 43.4 overs closing on 163-6, Tiaan Van Vuuren lead the way with 62, Declan Clerkin 20no and Adam Sharrocks 14no saw the hosts home.

Iain Critchley with 5-44 in 15 overs made the hosts fight for the win, Kerwin Mungroo took 1-38 from 11, Andrew Jacques 0-27 off 5.4 and Kurtis Watson 0-48 fron 12

Fulwood & Broughton v Longridge

Longridge won the toss at the Highfield ground and decided to bat first, the visitors got off to a bad start losing both openers cheaply, Joshua Mullin was out first caught by Simon Kerrigan off Jon Fenton for 0 (1 ball), 3-1, Jon Fenton then had James Whitehead caught by Dom Jackson for 2 (18 balls), 9-2

The new batsmen were Matthew De Villiers and Zac Christie, they took comlpete control of the game with a partnership of 212 broken by Hareen Buddila taking the wicket of Zac Christie caught by Simon Kerrigan for 118 (112 balls), (10x4, 8x6), 221-3

After the big partnership the visitors came down to earth losing two wickets in two balls, Incoming batsman Daniel Wilkinson Jnr was caught behind by James McWilliam off James Lupton for 1 (4 balls), 222-4, next ball Tom Turner fell to the same combination caught McWilliam bowled Lupton for 0 (1 ball), 222-5

Zach Proctor was in next but did not fair any better lbw to Hareen Buddila for 0 (6 balls), 223-6. Tom Howarth joined De Villiers and they took the score to 250, Matthew De Villiers innings came to a close caught by Simon Kerrigan off Hareen Buddila for 113 (128 balls), (10x4, 2x6), 250-7

Hareen Buddila claimed his fourth victim Caleb Bradford stumped by James McWilliam for 2 (5 balls), 264-8. Tom Howarth 21no (23 balls) and Matt Greenall 13no (5 balls) saw the visitors close on 282-8 in their 50 overs

The home side's bowling figures were Hareen Buddila 4-59 from 15 overs, James Lupton 2-55 off 8, Jon Fenton 2-57 from 10, Dom Jackson 0-37 off 4 and Simon Kerrigan 0-56 from 8

The hosts mountain to climb got bigger with Jonathan Millward removing both openers, James Lupton went first lbw for 1 (5 balls), 6-1, Richard Turner followed caught by Tom Howarth for 9 (20 balls), 23-2

Ben Parkinson and Simon Kerrigan were the new batsman, Caleb Bradford broke the partnership by having Ben Parkinson stumped by Tom Turner for 23 (37 balls), 40-3, Hareen Buddila was in next but fell to the same fate stumped Turner bowled Bradford for 12 (14 balls), 68-4

Ben Rosbottom joined Kerrigan but with the score on 92 Caleb Bradford claimed two wickets, Ben Rosbottom caught by Daniel Wilkinson Jnr 14 (27 balls), 92-5, two balls later Muhammad Zaid caught by Zac Christie for 0 (2 balls), 92-6

Matthew De Villiers compounded the hosts problems by having James McWilliam caught behind by Tom Turner for 2 (8 balls), 95-7, any hope of saving the game went with Caleb Bradford claiming his fifth victim with Tom Turner stumping Simon Kerrigan for 40 (50 balls), 107-8

Jon Fenton and Dom Jackson fought to save the game but it all ended with the final two wickets falling on the same score, Caleb Bradford had Jon Fenton caught by Matthew De Villiers for 6 (28 balls), 135-9, Dom Jackson was last man out caught by Zac Christie off Tom Howarth for 25 (33 balls) 135 all out in 37.2 overs, Chris Brookes was 0no (1 ball)

Caleb Bradford's figures were 6-52 from 13 overs, Jonathan Millward 2-29 off 9, Tom Howarth 1-0 from 0.2, Matthew De Villiers 1-23 off 6, Zach Proctor 0-8 from 3, Matt Greenall 0-22 off 6

Garstang v Penrith

Garstang won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and chose to bat first, Michael Walling and Luke Pearson were the openers, James Ellis made the break through having Luke Pearson caught behind by Alister Craig for 0 (9 balls), 5-1

The Garstang number three was Matthew Crowther and with Michael Walling were doing very well until Michael Walling was run out by Nathan Ellwood for 51 (79 balls), 86-2, Mark Walling was in next but on reaching 6 (22 balls) he was caught behind by Alister Craig off Harsha Vithana, 99-3

Ryan Pearson joined Matthew Crowther and they kept the score moving unril Ryan Pearson was caught behind by Alister Craig off James Ellis for 18 (24 balls) 134-4, Matthew Crowther had been the anchor for the hosts but he was out caught by Ollie Greenwood off Harsha Vithana for 48 (121 balls), 136-5

The two new batsmen were Tom Wells and Ian Walling, James Ellis claimed his third victim Ian Walling caught by James Bowman for 2 (5 balls), 139-6, Hugo Croft replaced Walling and their partnership was growing until Croft was caught behind by Alister Craig off James Bowman for 13 (14 balls), 168-7

Tom Wells 23no (23 balls) and new batsman Danny Gilbert 1no (1 ball) saw the hosts close on 175-7 in their 50 overs

The visitors bowling figures were James Ellis 3-45 from 10 overs, Harsha Vithana 2-36 off 15, James Bowman 1-29 from 10 and Greg Cameron 0-52 off 15

Ollie Greenwood and Eddie Robson opened for the visitors and seem to have settled in when the both were out, Ollie Greenwood was bowled by Danny Gilbert for 14 (48 balls), 25-1, two runs later Eddie Dobson was caught Michael Walling off Joel Anthony Derham for 8 (47 balls), 27-2

The problems for the visitors increased with Danny Gilbert taking two wickets with only four runs added, first to go was James Bowman caught by Tom Wells for 1 (14 balls), 31-3, New batsman Greg Cameron was next out caught by Hugo Croft for 0 (4 balls), 31-4

Harsha Vithana and James Ellis slowly began to rebuild the innings, Ian Walling broke the partnership by bowling James Ellis for 13 (37 balls), 66-5, Ben Ellis joined Harsha Vithana and they took the score past the hundred, Danny Gilbert took the vital wicket of Harsha Vitrhana caught by Tom Wells for 47 (74 balls) 102-6

Alister Craig joined Ben Ellis in the fight to save the game, Danny Gilbert claimed his fifth victim Alister Craig caught by Hugo Croft for 10 (14 balls), 121-7. Ben Johnston came to the wicket but lost partner Ben Ellis caught behind by Matthew Crowhter off Ian Walling for 22 (50 balls),125-8

Nathan Ellwood 0no (5 balls) and Ben Johnston 7no (7 balls) saw the visitors close on 132-8 in their 50 overs

Netherfield v Eccleston (Chorley)

Netherfield won the toss at the Parkside Road ground and elected to bat first, Josh Dixon and Ben Barrow got them off to a very good start with a partnership of 55 broken by Thomas Foster having Josh Dixon caught by Nathan McDonnell for 17 (37 balls), 55-1

Thomas Foster struck again by trapping Will Beeden lbw with his first ball, out for 0, 55-2, Steven Fisher was next in and was out to the McDonnell/Foster combination, caught Nathan McDonnell bowled Thomas Foster for 6 (31 balls) 66-3

Aryan Varsani joined Ben Barrow and they took contol of the innings with a partnership of 146 broken by Thomas Foster having Ben Barrow caught by Michael Atkinson for 100 (142 balls), (12x4, 1x6), 212-4 Aryan Arsani followed on the same score stumped by Adam Norris off Nathan McDonnell for 75 (69 balls),212-5

Sagar Udeshi and Oli Wileman took over, Sagar Udeshi fell caught by Cameron Smith off Reece Thomas for 15 (9 balls), 232-6, Louis Backhouse 7no (3 balls) and Oli Wileman saw the hosts close on 240-6 in their 50 overs

Thomas Foster took 4-60 from 15 overs, Nathan McDonnell 1-48 off 12, Reece Thomas 1-56 from 11, Michael Atkinson 0-15 off 2 and Nick Fowler 0-28 from 5

Adam Norris and Martyn James Brieley opened for the visiitors but were parted by Matt Jackson having Martyn James Brieley caught by Steven Fisher for 0 (8 balls), 5-1, Thomas Foster came in at three but lost Adam Norris caught by Josh Dixon off Matt jackson for 16 (28 balls), 28-2

Nathan McDonnell joined Thomas Foster and they were making inroads into their target when Sagar Udeshi trapped Nathan McDonnell lbw for 44 (78 balls), 118-3, Matthew Ashcroft came in next and continued the chase, their partnership was 62 whan Sagar Udeshi struck having Thomas Foster caught by Louis Backhouse for 89 (135 balls), 180-4

Reece Thomas was Ashcroft's next partner but became Sagar Udeshi's thrd victim caught by Josh Dixon for 6 (8 balls), 201-5. Jordan Bentham 15no (8 balls) and Matthew Ashcroft 46no (35 balls) saw the visitors close on 224-5 in their 50 overs

For Netherfield Sagar Udeshi took 3-66 from 15 overs, Matt Jackson 2-27 off 10, Oli Wileman 0-9 from 2, Reece Irving 0-20 off 2, Isaac Medhurst 0-33 from 12 and Louis Backhouse 0-64 0ff 9
