The Northern Cricket League Review

Round six of the 40 over League Cup Competition saw only one winner the weather, There was only three games completed with wins for Chorley, Carnforth and Euxton, the remaining games was all abandoned.

The teams going into the next round are Garstang, Leyland, Chorley, Blackpool Fleetwood, Netherfield, Euxton and Kendal.

40 OVER LEAGUE CUP COMPETITION: ROUND 6

Barrow v Chorley

Barrow won the toss at the Ernest Pass Memorial ground and elected to bat first, the Drew Postlethwaite and Sam Dutton opening partnership was broken when Sam Dutton was caught by Kieran Yould off James Lee for 8 (9 balls), 21-1

James Lee struck again immediately trapping incoming batsman Dikshant Vairagi lbw for 0 (1 ball), 21-2. Ross McMurdo was the new batsman, Edwin Moulton struck taking three wickets in eight balls, he bowled Ross McMurdo for 0 (10 balls), 26-3. Drew Postlethwaite was next caught behind by Matthew Sedgman for 17 (19 balls)(3x4), 27-4, the final victim was new batsman Cameron McDougall caught by Matt Dawson for 2 (5 balls), 28-5.

The batsmen with the task of rebuilding the innings were Daryl Wearing and Sam Henderson, James Lee claimed his third wicket Sam Henderson caught by Keegan Petersen for 0 (13 balls), 37-6.

Connor Sykes joined Wearing but with only seven runs added Daryl Wearing was bowled by James Lee for 13 (21 balls)(2x4), 44-7. Alexander Proctor was next in but lost Connor Sykes caught by Keegan Petersen off Edwin Moulton for 2 (9 balls), 44-8.

Toby Johnston was introduced into the attack and took the last two wickets, Ben Carr was his first wicket caught by Matt Dawson for 0 (5 balls), 45-9. he then had Alexander Proctor caught by Edward Guyton for 1 (11 balls) as Barrow were bowled out for 52 in 18.5 overs with Sajid Khan 6no (10 balls).

The Chorley opening bowlers did the damage, James Lee 4-21 from 8 overs, Edwin Moulton 4-22 off 8 with Toby Johnston 2-4 from 1.5 and Will Moulton 0-4 off 1.

James Dunn and Edward Guyton opened, Dkshant Vairagi bowled James Dunn for 15 (12 balls)(1x4, 1x6), 20-1. Edwin Moulton joined Guyton and they saw the visitors home on 55-1 in 9.4 overs, Edward Guyton was 22no (30 balls)(3x4) and Edwin Moulton 14no (16 balls)(2x4).

The Barrow bowling was Dikshant Vairagi 1-14 from 4 overs, Ben Carr 0-8 off 1, Alexander Proctor 0-11 from 0.4 and Sajid Khan 0-22 off 4.

Blackpool v Mawdesley

Blackpool won the toss at Stanley Park and put the visitors into bat, they had early success Jamie Thomson having Oliver Ellicoott caught behind by Ben Howarth for 3 (25 balls), 26-1.

Aneeq Hassan was in at three and with Fyffe Dennis were scoring well and were approaching the 150 when Fyffe Dennis was out caught by Matt Taaffe off Mathew Grindley for 72 (104 balls)(6x4), 145-2.

Daniel Unsworth joined Hassan and supported him, he fell with one over to go caught by Andrew Needham off Dylan Henshall for 7 (19 balls), 196-3.

Lee Berrie replaced Unsworth and saw Mawdesley to 207-3 in their 40 overs, Aneeq Hassan was 97no (90 balls)(12x4, 3x6) and Lee Berrie 5no (3 balls).

For Blackpool Jamie Thomsom took 1-26 from 8 overs, Dylan Henshall 1-38 off 7, Matthew Grindley 1-47 from 8, Arran Lewin 0-19 off 3, Omar Tauqir 0-33 from 7 and Matthew Taaffe 0-37 off 7.

The rains came and no further play was possible.

Carnforth v Thornton Cleveleys

Thornton Cleveleys won the toss at Loge Quarry and chose to bat first, they did not get off to a good start losing Joshua Rolinson caught by Freddie Whatmuff off James Park-Johnson for 4 (7 balls), 8-1.

The visitors number three was Josh Borrell who was scoring quite freely until he was caught behind by Shane Dixon off Dylan Conroy for 14 (17 balls)(3x4), 24-2, the new man in was Joel Elphick but he soon became wicket number two for Dylan Conroy out lbw for 6 (9 balls), 33-3.

The next man in was Sam Curwen who lost his partner Joshua Sackfield caught behind by Shane Dixon off James Park-Johnson for 6 (16 balls), 35-4. Will Weber joined Curwen and they began to rebuild the innings until both fell on the same score, Sam Curwen was the first to go caught behind by Shane Dixon off Tom Parkinson for 10 (27 balls), 56-5, Freddie Whatmuff had Will Weber caught behind by Shane Dixon for 13 (26 balls), 56-6

We now had two new batsmen Jake Apperley and Daniel Howard, their partnership was 21 when Jake Apperley was caught by Jack Thompson off Tom Parkinson for 9 (25 balls), 77-7. next in was Christopher Hedges who soon lost his partner Daniel Howard caught by Jaco Beneke off Jack Thompson for 14 (32 balls), 86-8.

Ethan Elphick replaced Howard but with eleven runs added the visitors lost their last two wickets, Christopher Hedges was caught by Jaco Beneke off Jack Thompson for 9 (20 balls), 97-9, The innings closed on 97 all out in 31.1 overs with Ethan Elphic caught behind by Shane Dixon off James Park-Johnson for 7 (8 balls) with Anthony Ellison 0 no.

The Carnforth wicket-keeper Shane Dixon claimed five victims in the innings.

The Bowling figures were James Park-Johnson 3-24 from 7.1 overs, Jack Thompson 2-9 off 2, Tom Parkinson 2-12 from 8, Dylan Conroy 2-28 off 8 and Jaco Beneke 0-6 from 2.

Due to the weather the target of runs required was reduced to 60, Carnforth reached their goal of 60-1 in 10.4 overs with Tom Parkinson the man out caught behind by Sam Curwen off Anthony Ellison for 28 (36 balls)(3x4, 1x6), Freddie Whatmuff was 27no (28 balls)(4x4) along with Jaco Benke 0no.

The Thornton Cleveleys bowling was Anthone Ellison 1-10 from 1.4 overs, Christopher Hedges 0-8 off 1, Joshua Rolinson 0-17 from 4 and Daniel Howard 0-25 off 4.

Euxton v St Annes

Lukman Vahaluwala and Ashton Charles got them off to a good start and then they lost two quick wickets, Ashton Charles was the first to go caught behind by Jack Morgan off Jack Shovelton for 13 (17 balls)(2x4), 32-1.

James Bradley came in at three but was run out by Jack Shovelton for 2 (4 balls), 34-2. Luke Jardine was the new batsman but history repeated itself two wickets falling two runs apart, Joseph Barker caught and bowled Lukman Vahaluwla for 25 (29 balls)(4x4), 53-3, two runs later Luke Jardine was caught by James Bone off Jack Shovelton for 5 (15 balls), 55-4.

We now had two new batsmen at the crease Ankur Malik and Javen Isidore, Jack Shovelton struck again bowling Javen Isidore for 5 (6 balls), 69-5. Nathan Bolus joined Malik and they were making progress when Ankur Malik was caught behind by Jack Morgan off James Bone for 6 (17 balls), 90-6.

Thomas Bradley replaced Malik and took the score past the hundred only for Nathan Bolus to fall caught by Ben Houghton off Ben Cooper for 18 (20 balls)(2x4), 103-7.

In next was Ethan Hill who quickly became James Bone's second wicket caught by Max Harper for 1 (3 balls), 108-8. Ryan Birkman was Thomas Bradley's new partner and they were keeping the scoreboard ticking over until James Bone cleaned up the tail, Ryan Birkman was stumped by Jack Morgan for 11 (15 balls), 131-9. he then bowled Thomas Bradley for 20 (20 balls)(2x4) as St Annes were bowled out for 134 in 27.2 overs with Rory Urquhart 2no (10 balls).

The Euxton bowling was James Bone 4-26 from 7.2 overs, Jack Shovelton 3-15 off 6, Ben Cooper 1-8 from 5, Joseph Barker 1-40 off 7, Louis Sweeney 0-0 from 1 and Joseph Bowden 0-25 off 5.

Due to the weather the hosts had a revised total of 46 from 13 overs, Thomas Bradley had early success for the visitors having Jack Shovelton caught by Ankur Malik for 6 (8 balls), 10-1.

Hakeem Perryman was in at three but quickly became wicket number two for Thomas Bradley bowled for 4 (3 balls), 19-2, Ben Hougthon joined Josh Tolley and they soon were above the run rate required, their partnership was 50 when Ankur Malik bowled Ben Houghton for 25 (21 balls)(5 x4), 69-3.

James Bone came to the wicket and at the end of their 13 overs were 96-3 to give them victory, Josh Tolley was 40no (38 balls)(7x4, 1x6) and James Bone 6no (11 balls).

Thomas Bradley took 2-23 from 4 overs, Ankur Malik 1-7 0ff 2, Nathan Bolus 0-17 from 2 and Rory Urquhart 0-41 off 5.

Fulwood & Broughton v Fleetwood

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and elected to bat first, Ewen Mansford and Cameron Port were going well until Cameron Port was caught by Andy Drake off Declan Clerkin for 16 (18 balls)(3x4), 42-1.

The host's number three was Ben Parkinson and with Mansford continued to move the score along, Michael Rippon was brought into the attack with instant success taking two wickets in his first over, he bowled Ewen Mansford for 37 (54 balls)(4x4), 75-2, three balls later he had new batsman James McWilliam lbw for 1 (3 balls), 77-3.

Parshwa Panchwatkar joined Ben Parkinson but with only seven runs added Micheal Rippon bowled Ben Parkinson for 13 (39 balls), 84-4, new man Lewis Wellings did not last long caught by Jeremy Davies off Michael Rippon for 5 (10 balls),92-5.

Max Smith replaced Wellings but shortly afterwards the rains came and the match was abandoned with Fulwood & Broughton on 97-5 in 24.3 overs. Parshwa Panchwatkar was 8no (20 balls) and Max Smith 1no (1 ball).

Michael Ripon took 4-17 from 5.3 overs, Declan Clerkin 1-19 off 4, Nathan Bend 0-0 from 1, Matthew Siddall 0-11 off 5, Jeremy Davies 0-16 from 6 and Joe Baines 0-30 off 3.

Garstang v Carlisle

Carlisle won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and invited the hosts to bat first, they got off to a brilliant start with an opening stand of 124, Tom Higson was the man out lbw to Nico Watt for 54 (63 balls)(5x4), 124-1

Joseph Pearson joined Michael Walling but with only seven runs added Michael Walling was run out by Oliver Spedding for 64 (60 balls)(4x4, 1x6), 131-2. Mark Walling came to the wicket but shortly afterwards the rains came and the match was abandoned with Garstang 141-2 in 25 0vers, Joseph Pearson was 10no (21 balls)(1x6) and Mark Walling 2no (6 balls).

The Carlisle bowling was Nico Watt 1-20 from 4 overs, Jared Kuhl 0-7 off 2, Michael Slack 0-14 from 4, Johnny Westgarth 0-27 off 5, Ben Purdham 0-27 from 4 and Kieran Titterington 0-43 off 6.

Netherfield v Longridge

The match was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Penwortham v Great Eccleston

Great Eccleston won the toss at Middleforth Green and asked the hosts to bat first, Ryan Dimasi and Harish Humsa opened, Harish Humsa went early caught by Phil Booth off Nisanth Nithian for 6 (9 balls), 10-1.

Robbie Sumner came in at three and with Dimasi were going steadily along when disaster struck with the loss of two wickets in two balls, Ryan Dimasi was run out by Mohammed Fazil for 12 (21 balls)(2x4), 39-2, next ball incoming batsman Joseph Bradshaw fell lbw to Phil Booth for 0 (1 ball), 39-3.

Ed Duckworth joined Robbie Sumner and moved the score along until Ed Duckworth was caught by Nisanth Nithian off Mohamed Nadeem for 13 (24 balls), 68-4. Ryan Maddock was in next but soon lost Robbie Sumner caught by Will Thistlethwaite off Sandeep Gorige for 35 (52 ball)(4x4), 82-5.

Nathan Walmsley was the new batsman but the rains came and the match was abandoned with Penwortham 97-5 in 23.3 overs, Ryan Maddock was 9no (22 balls) and Nathan Walmsley 5no (12 balls).

The Great Eccleston bowling was Phil Booth 2-13 from 6 overs, Mohamed Nadeem 1-14 off 6, Nisanth Nithian 1-29 from 3, Sandeep Gorige 1-30 off 6 and Alexander Rhodes 0-11 from 2.3.

Settle v Leyland

Settle won the toss at Edenside and put the visitors into bat, Leyland got off to a bad start losing Alex Sutcliffe lbw to Tom Davidson in the first over, 0-1.

Sam Oldham was the new batsman and with Alexander Eyre were going well when Eyre was out lbw to Tom Davidson for 36 (41 balls)(5x4). Lloyd Tennant was next and with Oldham took Leyland 120-2 in 20 overs when play was abandoned, Sam Oldham was 54no (56 balls)(3x4, 3x6) and Lloyd Tennant 32no (21 balls)(1x4 3x6)

For Settle Tom Davidson took 2-19 from 7 overs, Joe Pickles 0-17 off 3, William Davidson 0-24 from 3, Benjamin Hulse 0-26 off 3 and Gautam Waghela 0-36 from 4.
