The Northern Cricket League Review

The Northern Premier League 2025 season Round 3 saw Division 1 games decimated by the weather only one match was completed, all the rest were abandoned some without a ball being bowled.

Fulwood & Broughton took advantage their win over Longridge taking them into fourth place one point behind the leaders Netherfield.

In Division 2 three of the five games were completed, St Annes are the only side in both divisions to have won all of their three games and are now top of Division 2, there were also wins for Carlisle and Great Eccleston. The remaining games were abandoned

DIVISION ONE

LEAGUE MATCHES: ROUND 3

Blackpool v Netherfield

The match was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Chorley v Settle

Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and elected to bat in a 50 over match, They lost Stuart Naden lbw to Will Vause for 1 (4 balls), 2-1.

Edwin Moulton joined Miller Childs and they had a partnership of 100 broken when Edwin Moulton was caught by James Snowden off Gautam Waghela for 33 (43 balls)(3x4), 102-2.

Keegan Petersen was the new batsman and with Miller Childs were moving the score along until he was caught by Tom Davidson off Mohammed Jamal for 22 (16 balls)(2x4,1x6), 144-3.

Maxwell Seedall was in next and with Miller Childs saw Chorley close on 177-3 in their 25 overs, Miller Childs was 92no (80 balls)(7x4, 3x6) and Maxwell Seedall 17no (11 balls)(1x4, 1x6).

The Settle bowling was Will Vause 1-36 from 6 overs, Mohammed Jamal 1-40 off 4, Gautam Waghela 1-43 from 7, Eddy Read 0-11 off 1, William Davidson 0-20 from 2 and Tom Davidson 0-24 off 5.

The chase was on William Davidson fell caught by Matt Dawson off Edwin Moulton for 14 (11 balls)(1x4, 1x6) in the third over, 21-1

Gautam Waghela was John Davidson's new partner, John Davidson was out caught behind by Ben Simpkins off Sam Steeple for 17 (22 balls)(1x4, 1x6), 56-2. That was the end of play due to the rain and the match abandoned. Gautam Waghela was 9no (13 balls).

For Chorley Sam Steeple took 1-3 from 0.4 overs, Edwin Moulton 1-24 off 3, Joseph Tiff 0-10 from 1 and Miller Childs 0-14 off 3.

Fulwood & Broughton v Longridge

Longridge won the toss at the Highfield ground and chose to bat first in a 54 over match, Joshua Mullin was an early casulty caught behind by James McWilliam off Jon Fenton for 0 (2 balls), 11-1.

Zach Proctor came in at three but lost Taariq Chiecktey caught by Lewis Wellings off Jon Fenton for 14 (24 balls)(3x4), 22-2, Zac Christie was the new batsmen and with Proctor kept the scoreboard ticking over, The introduction of Lewis Wellings into the attack had immediate results, he had Zach Proctor caught by Cameron Port for 20 (39 balls)(3x4), 59-4.

Rob Hollinghurst joined Christie but he soon became wicket number two for Lewis Wellings, caught by Simon Kerrigan for 5 (10 balls), 70-4. the new batsman was Tom Howarth but with only seven runs added Lewis Wellings struck again bowling Zac Christie for 32 (42 balls)(5x4), 77-5.

Kieran McClintock came in next but in the chase for runs he was run out by James McWilliam for 10 (13 balls)(1x6). 96-6. Gabriel Dowthwaite joined Howarth and they saw the visitors close on 129-6 in their 27 overs, Tom Howarth was 30no (23 balls)(1x4, 2x6) and Gabriel Dowthwaite 12no (10 balls)(1x4, 1x6).

Lewis Wellings took 3-38 from 6 overs, Jon Fenton 2-29 off 8, Marcus Allen 0-28 from 8 and Simon Kerrigan 0-34 off 6.

The hosts innings followed that of the visitors, Cameron Port went early caught by Tom Howarth off Kieran McClintock for 1 (6 balls), 5-1, number three Ben Parkinson going for the runs was out caught by Joshua Mullin off Jacob Proctor for 17 (12 balls)(2x4, 1x6), 25-2.

Ben Rosbottom joined Ewen Mansford and they were up with the run rate, their partnership was nearing 50 when Ben Parkinson was caught by Zac Christie off Jake Durnell for 18 (30 balls)(2x4, 1x6.) 73-3.

Simon Kerrigan was Ewen Mansford's new partner but when Gabriel Dowthwaite was brought into the attack he had Ewen Mansford caught behind by Taariq Chiecktey for 46 (59 balls)(5x4, 1x6), 91-4. James McWilliam replaced Mansford but with the hosts three runs short of victory Simon Kerrigan was caught by Joshua Mullin off Kieran McClintock for 12 (22 balls), 127-5.

Jon Fenton came to the wicket and hit the winning runs as Fulwood & Broughton reached their target of 130-5 in 25.1 overs, James McWilliam was 25no (31 balls)(3x4, 1x6) and Jon Fenton 3no (4 balls).

The Longridge bowling figures were Kieran McClintock 2-16 from 7 overs, Jacob Proctor 1-26 off 5, Gabriel Dowthaite 1-28 from 3.1, Jake Durnell 1-32 off 7, and Ian Simpson 0-26 from 3.

DIVISION TWO

LEAGUE MATCHES: ROUND 3

Carlisle v Barrow

Carlisle won the toss at Edenside and put the visitors into bat in a 56 over match, Barrow got off too a bad start losing three early wickets, Sam Dutton was the first to go lbw to Nico Watt for 0 (3 balls), 7-1.

The Barrow number three was Toby Mowat but he soon lost Drew Postlethwaite bowled by Nico Watt for 8 (19 balls), 12-2. Dikshant Vairagi was in next but with only six runs added Michael Slack had Toby Mowat caught by Alex Raybould for 4 (8 balls), 18-3.

Jack Singleton joined Vairagi and they looked to have turned the game around when Dikshant Vairagi was bowled by Ben Purdham for 25 (36 balls)(2x4), 54-4, the new batsman was Simon Chadd, Johnny Westgarth was brought on to bowl and in his first over bowled Jack Singleton for 22 (41 balls)(3x4), 64-5.

Cameron Dougall was next in but the return of Nico Watt to the attack saw him out lbw for 2 (15 balls), 72-6. Luke Callow replaced McDougall but quickly became wicket number four for Nico Watt bowled for 1 (6 balls), 78-7.

Daryl Wearing came to the wicket but was soon out caught by Michael Slack off Brodie Glendinning for 2 (5 balls), 81-8.

Sam Henderson was Simon Chadd's new partner and they saw Barrow close on 93-8 in their 28 overs, Simon Chadd was 14no (27 balls) and Sam Henderson 9no (8 balls).

Nico Watt took 4-28 from 9 overs, Michael Slack 1-8 off 3.2, Johnny Westgarth 1-8 from 2, Brodie Glendinning 1-10 off 3, Ben Purdham 1-16 from 7 and Ben Davidson 0-16 off 3.4.

The Carlisle reply nearly mirrored that of the visitors innings, Daryl Wearing took two wickets in the same over, Marc Brown was caught behind by Drew Postlethwaite for 2 (10 balls), 9-1, four balls later number three Nico Watt was caught by Sam Henderson for 4 (4 balls)13-2.

Ben Davidson joined Tom Benn but on reaching 9 (22 balls)(2 x4) he was bowled by Gary Collins, 28-3. Brodie Glendinning was Benn's new partner and they were going well, Dikshant Vairagi came on to bowl and in his second over took two wickets in two balls, he had Brodie Glendinning caught behind by Drew Postlethwaite for 16 (25 balls)(2x4), 63-4, next ball new batsman Freddie Newton was caught by Sam Dutton for 0 (1 ball), 63-5.

Alex Raybould replaced Newton but with only five runs added Drew Postlethwaite stumped Tom Benn off Dikshant Vairagi for 30 (48 balls)(3x4), 68-6. In came Michael Slack and with Raybould saw Carlisle home on 94-6 in 23.4 overs, Michael Slack was 11no (15 balls) and Alex Raybould 10 no (17 balls).

Dikshant Vairagi took 3-26 from 4.4 overs, Daryl Wearing 2-33 off 9, Gary Collins 1-19 from 7 and Toby Mowat 0-15 off 3.

Euxton v Mawdesley

Mawdesley won the toss at Balshaw Park and asked the hosts to take first knock in a 60 over match, Josh Tolley and Max Harper gave Euxton a good start, Oliver Ellicott broke the stand having Josh Tolley caught by Lee Berrie for 28 (30 balls)(4x4, 1x6), 52-1.

James Bone was in at three and with Max Harper were moving the score along until Max Harper was stumped by Fyffe Dennis off Neil O'Malley for 21 (40 balls)(2x4), 76-2, Hakeem Perryman was the new batsman and with Bone were scoring freely, their partnership was 66 when Hakeem Perryman was caught by Lee Berrie off Aneeq Hassan for 33 (31 balls)(2x4, 1x6), 142-3.

Next in was Ben Houghton who continued to keep the run rate up, he was out with eight balls remaining of the innings, caught by Joshau Unsworth off Aneeq Hassan for 33 (19 balls)(2x4, 2x6), 191-4.

Will Joy came in and with James Bone saw Euxton close on 198-4 in their 30 overs with James Bone 67no (58 balls)(6x4, 1x6) and Will Joy 3no (3 balls).

For Mawdesley Aneeq Hassan took 2-30 from 6 overs, Neil O'Malley 1-24 off 5, Oliver Ellicott 1-44 from 9, Kasim Masood 0-16 off 1, Joshua Unsworth 0-24 from 2, Joshua Adamson 0-27 off 4 and Lee Berrie 0-30 from 3

Mawdesley got off too a bad srart losing Lee Berrie bowled by James Bone for 1 (3 balls), 2-1, Aneeq Hassan came in at three and with Fyyffe Dennis put on 50, Joseph Barker made the breakthrough having Aneeq Hassan caught by Ben Houghton for 23 (38 balls)(3x4), 52-3.

Nathan Trengove was the new man in but with only three runs added saw wicket-keeper Jack Morgan catch Fyffe Dennis off Joseph Barker for 28 (54 balls)(2x4), 55-3.

Kasim Masood joined Trengove, with the weather closing in Nathan Trengove was stumped by Jack Morgan for 8 (13 balls), that was the last action of the game as Mawdesley were 66-4 in 18.4 overs as the match was abandoned, Kasim Masood was 4no (5 balls).

For Euxton Joseph Barker took 2-14 from 3 overs, James Bone 2-16 off 6.4, Josh Tolley 0-6 from 3 and Joseph Bowden 0-29 off 6.

Great Eccleston v Thornton Cleveleys

Great Eccleston won the toss at Hall Lne and invited the visitors to bat first in a forty over match, The Thornton Cleveleys start was disastrous losing Joshua Rolinson from the first ball of the match caught behind by Will Thistlethwaite off Phil Booth for 0, 0-1.

Josh Borrell was the visitors number three and with Joshua Sackfield began to rebuild the innings, Jim Proctor took two wickets in three balls for the hosts, he had Joshua Sackfield caught by Alexander Rhodes for 15 (25 balls), 34-2, Josh Borrell fell two balls later caught by Mohammed Fazil for 11 (20 balls)(16), 35-3.

We now had two new batsmen Cameron Chisholm and Richard Jenkinson, Jim Proctor quickly accounted for Richard Jenkinson bowling him for 2 (3 balls), 47-4. Kai Collinge was next in and was scoring well but lost Cameron Chisholm caught by William Turnbull off Alexander Rhodes for 17 (20 balls), 60-5.

Daniel Howard joined Kai Collinge and they were approaching the hundred when Daniel Howard fell caught by Nisanth Nithian off Mohamed Nadeem for 8 (10 balls), 99-6, Christopher Hedges came in with 20 balls remaining, in the last over bowled by Alexander Rhodes, Kai Collinge was caught and bowled for 39 (28 balls)(1x4, 3x6), 112-7. off the last ball of the innings Christopher Hedges was caught behind by Will Thistlethwaite for 6 (12 balls) as Thornton Cleveleys closed on 113-8 in their 20 overs, Jake Apperley was 1no (1 balls).

The Great Eccleston bowling figures were Alexander Rhodes 3-17 from 3 overs, Jim Proctor 3-22 off 6, Mohamed Nadeem 1-24 from 4, Phil Booth 1-27 off 6 and William Turnbull 0-14 from 1.

The hosts reply looked to be going ok until both openers fell on the same score, Joshua Rolinson had Nisanth Nithian lbw for 11 (13 balls) (1x6), 19-1, Rishit Sharma was caught behind by Sam Curwen for 4 (10 balls), 19-2.

The two new batsmen were Alexander Rhodes and Mohamed Nadeem and they took the score past the fifty when Alexander Rhodes was caught by Joshua Rolinson off Jake Apperley for 21 (14 balls)(2x4, 1x6), 53-3. next in was Mohhammed Fazil and with Mohamed Nadeem were scoring at a run a ball until Mohamed Nadeem was caught by Joshua Sackfield off Daniel Howard for 29 (31 balls)(1x4, 3x6), 84-4. Joe McMillan replaced Nadeem but was quickly out caught by Joshua Rolinson off Cameron Chisholm for 0 (5 balls), 95-5.

Matthew Lawrenson was the new batsman and with Fazil went on the attack , they reached their target of 114-5 in 16.3 overs with Mohammed Fazil 25no (23 balls)(4x4) and Matthew Lawrenson 9no (5 balls)(2x4).

Cameron Chisholm took 2045 from 5.3 overs, Daniel Howard 1-13 off 3, Joshua Rolinson 1-25 from 5 and Jake Apperley 1-27 off 3.

Penwortham v Vernon Carus

Penwortham won the toss at Middleforth Green and invited the visitors to bat first in a 40 over match, Ian Dunn and Hasan Zaman opened, Ryan Maddock made the breakthrough, Hasan Zaman caught by Ryan Dimasi for (9 balls)(2x4), 18-1.

Haren Shetty was the Vernon Carus number three and with Dunn were making good progress, the introduction of Nathan Walmsley saw him take a wicket in every over he bowled, Haren Shetty was first out stumped by Robbie Sumner for 15 (22 balls) in his first over. 48-2.

In his second over Ian Dunn was lbw for 26 (34 balls)(1x4, 1x6), 61-3. Jaxon Cornford and Wes Royle were the new batsmen, in his third over he bowled Jaxon Cornford for 16 (10 balls)(2x6), 80-4, David Fisher joined Royle, but in Walmsley's fourth over he took two wickets in two balls, David Fisher was caught by Ryan Maddock for 3 (6 balls), 91-5. next ball he claimed his fifth wicket new man Matthew Timms was caught by Ryan Dimasi for 0 (1 ball), 91-6.

Robert Bridges replaced Timms but fell caught by Matthew Finnerty off Ryan Maddock for 1 (4 balls), 94-7. Mohammad Patel came to the wicket and became Nathan Walmsley's next victim bowled for 12 (6 balls)(2x6), 108-8.

Daniel Gray joined Wes Royle and was out caught by Jonathon Hothersall off Walmsley for 3 (5 balls), 120-9. Oliver Lombard was in at eleven to face the last ball of the innings, Vernon Carus closed on 121-9 in their 20 overs with Wes Royle 22no (23 balls) and Oliber Lomdard 0no (1 ball).

Nathan Walmsley's figures were 7-38 from 6 overs with Ryan Maddock 2-35 off 6, Ryan Roberts 0-17 from 4 and Charlie Parker 0-27 off 4.

The Penwortham innings were 7-0 in 1.3 overs when the rains came and the match abandoned. Ryan Maddock was 6no (7 balls) and Ryan Dimasi 1no (2 balls).

For Vernon Carus Oliver Lombard had 0-6 from 1 and Matthew Timms 0-1 off 0.3.

St Annes v Carnforth

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and put Carnforth in to bat in a 40 over match, Zach Dodds was the first to go caught by Rory Urquhart off Lukman Vahaluwala for 5 (4 balls), 6-1.

Coming in at three was Bradley Hoyle, eleven runs had been added when Mitch Bolus took two wickets in three balls, Bradley Hoyle was caught by Lukman Vahaluwla for 9 (14 balls), 17-2, two balls later new batsman James Park-Johnson was caught by Nathan Bolus for 0 (2 balls), 17-3.

Dylan Conroy joined Freddie Whatmuff and they began to move the score along, a change of bowling saw Rory Urquhart brought into the attack and in his first over he had Freddie Whatmuff caught by Luke Jardine for 13 (12 balls)(2x4), 35-4.

The incoming batsman was Shane Dixon but with only one run added Rory Urquhart struck again having Dylan Conroy caught by Ryan Birkman for 6 (16 balls), 35-5. Tom Parkinson replaced Conway but he soon became wicket number three for Rory Urquhart caught by Ryan Birkman for 6 (10 balls), 44-6.

Lewis Spurr was Shane Dixon's new partner, Dixon was the next man out caught by Luke Jardine off Rory Urquhart for 16 (25 balls)(1x4, 1x6), 65-7. Romario Brathwaite was the new batsman and with Spurr saw Carnforth close on 84-7 in their 20 overs, Lewis Spurr was 10no (22 balls) and Romario Brathwaite 16no (6 balls)(2x4, 1x6).

Rory Urquhart took 4-24 from 6 overs, Mitch Bolus 2-26 off 5, Lukman Vahaluwala 1-20 from 3 and Promod Maduwantha 0-14 off 6.

The St Annes openers Lukman Vahaluwala and Jevan Isidore got off to good start, Jevan Isidore was caught and bowled by Dylan Conroy for 18 (19 balls)(3 x4), 38-1.

That was the last success for the visitors as Lukman Vahaluwala 36no (33 balls)(6x4) and new batsman Luke Jardine 23no (16 balls)(5x4) saw St Annes home on 85-1 in 11.1 overs.

For Carnforth Dylan Conroy took 1-32 from 5 overs, James Parkinson 0-1 off 0.1, Tom Parkinson 0-3 from 1, James Park-Johnson 0-21 off 3 and Romario Brathwaite 0-27 from 2.
