Match Day 19th July 2009

SUNDAY ROUND UP

Heartbreak for Netherfield
Collins bowls Barrow to victory

By Michael Latham

Gary Collins took five wickets for Barrow

Netherfield suffered heartbreak in the Barclays Wealth LCB Knock-Out Competition as they bowed out at the quarter-final stage.

Chris Parry's side made the long journey to Derbyshire but arrived at Glossop CC's North Road ground to find the playing area unfit after heavy overnight and morning rain.
The captains decided on a bowl-out to decide the tie and Glossop went through to the last four by a 4-2 margin.

In the Cumbria Cup Barrow earned a semi-final place with a convincing win at Keswick.
Professional Pasan Wanasinghe top-scored with 85 as Barrow reached 214 for 5 in their 40 overs at Fitz Park.
Liam Livingstone made 31 and Chris D'Leny, Guy Heffernan and Iain Kermode also passed the 20-mark.

In reply Keswick were bowled out for 85 with Barrow's slow left arm spinner Gary Collins taking the bowling honours with five for nine off eight overs.
Barrow won by 129 runs and now play local rivals Furness in the semi-final at Ernest Pass next Sunday (26 July).

But Carnforth went out of the Cumbria Cup as they lost by six wickets to Cleator at Lodge Quarry.
Carnforth made 146 for 9 in their 40 overs with professional Gareth Pedder top-scoring with 30. Pedder was also captain for the day as Darren Moore was laid up with a virus.
Ben Hornby (25) and Garry Baxendale (22) were the other major contributors.

Cleator professional Paul Duffett anchored his side's reply with a patient 49 before he fell to a superb juggling catch in the deep by Richard Forsyth off the bowling of teenaged off-spinner Bradley Hoyle.
Cumberland batsman Darren Clark, who played for Barrow CC last season, hit 36 as the visitors got home with 34 balls to spare.
