TEAM NEWS WEEKEND 5/6 JULY

Leaders Leyland face derby test

Leyland captain Dave Makinson takes his team to Chorley

LEAGUE

Leyland went back to the top of the league at the halfway point of the season after last week's win at Lancaster. Dave Makinson's side travel to local rivals Chorley on Saturday in the game of the day. The sides have met twice recently in the T20 with home advantage counting on both occasions. But while Leyland should be at full strength, part from the missing Stephen Pallett, Chorley's run machine Josh Tolley will miss out on the chance to add to his six consecutive league half centuries as he is on holiday.

Second placed Kendal have to sit out the Saturday games, no bad thing if the weather is as bad as forecast so third-placed Blackpool have a chance to keep up the pressure when the entertain Carnforth. Reigning champions St Annes, in fourth place, travel to Darwen.

Blackpool spokesperson Andy Griffiths reports: Our 2nd XI have two games this weekend, travelling to Carnforth on Saturday and hosting Morecambe in a league me brought forward from Saturday 30th August as a result of the Lancashire vs Surrey County Championship fixture
On Saturday, with a full side to select from Captain Andy Griffiths has taken the decision not to travel, and will trust Vice-Captain Steve Mercer to bring home a much needed victory after last weekend's defeat to Chorley. Alex Smith, Michael Penney and Ben Heath boost the ranks, and we welcome Mike Taylor back from holiday; Luke Melville returns from holiday, and is asked to play in the 3rd XI, alongside 2nd XI captain Andy Griffiths, and regulars Will Norris, John Caunce, Kev Reid and Jarred Bain.

On Sunday, with one eye on ensuring the 1st XI are not restricted in their selection when they play Morecambe in August, Mike Taylor and Michael Penney are left out, so as not to make themselves ineligible for the return, and Alex Smith does not qualify to play, so Andy Griffiths returns to Captain the side, and is joined by Luke Melville and Jarred Bain.
