ECB National Club Championship draw for 2010 Carnforth head for Westhoughton's new ground The County Ground at Derby will again stage the final Twelve of the 14 clubs in the Furness Building Society Northern Premier Cricket League (in association with Readers Cricket Balls) have entered the ECB National Club Championship for 2010. Blackpool, Kendal, Lancaster and St Annes are in Group 4, Carnforth, Leyland, Morecambe and Preston in Group 5 and Chorley, Darwen, Fleetwood and Netherfield in Group 6. Barrow and Lancashire Colts have not entered. The draw for the National Club Championship for the 2010 season sees some intriguing ties with Carnforth travelling to play at Bolton League side Westhoughton's new ground, which has been chosen to stage a Lancashire Second XI game in 2010. Netherfield face a long trip to North Wales to play Colwyn Bay while Leyland, who reached the last 16 of the competition in 2009 visit Bolton association side Golborne. The ECB's Patrick Mahony outlined: '255 clubs have entered the competition and the one bye has been granted to Chester-le-Street CC, the reigning champions. Therefore there are only 15 teams in Group 1 - all other Groups have 16 teams in them. This means that all clubs, bar Chester-le-Street, are scheduled to play a 1st Round tie on Sunday 16th May. 'As the number of entrants has been restricted to a maximum of 256 it means that all Groups have to contain the same number of clubs - this has meant that there is less flexibility about setting the boundaries for each Group. In the past there would be different numbers of clubs from group to group but this enabled the geographical area covered by the various groups to be kept as small as possible. 'With the desire of the majority of clubs to meet opposition from different leagues this has meant that some group boundaries overlap and hence cover a bigger area. Most clubs have been drawn against teams from other leagues, or other divisions if from the same league, so hopefully some new rivalries and friendships will be forged during the coming season. 'The Final will, once again, be hosted by Derbyshire County Cricket Club and will take place on Saturday 18th September.'
