Blackpool and Kendal win on opening night of T20

Perera and Mounsey lead the way for Blackpool

Nimesh Perera scored a rapid 39 for Blackpool

Blackpool and Kendal enjoyed victories on the opening night of action in the Latham Baxendale Twenty20 Cup. Paul Danson's side earned a 28 runs win over Fleetwood at Broadwater while Ross McMillan's men got home by the slenderest of margins on run rate at Barrow after rain intervened late in the game.

Fleetwood's Matt Clark makes a fine catch to dismiss Perera

After winning the toss and electing to bat Blackpool made a lightning start as pro Nimesh Perera and John Mounsey plundered 69 off 53 balls before Perera was superbly caught by Matt Clark off Sam Bell for 39 (24 balls, 6 fours and one six).

Blackpool captain Paul Danson faces up to Ryan Smith

Mounsey struck the ball well to make 38 off 43 balls but Fleetwood fought back well in the field as captain and pro Matt Frith (1 for 16), Mike Clinning (1 for 16) and Sam Bell (2 for 23) bowled well.
Blackpool reached 141 for 6 in their 20 overs, Andy Furniss's contributing a hard-hit 28. Ryan Smith took two wickets in two balls but saw his hat-trick ball despatched for six over extra cover by Danson and finished with two for 51

Frith led Fleetwood's reply with a fluent 35 off 27 balls before he was brilliantly stumped by Ben Heath off Andy Hogarth.
The home side struggled to dominate an accurate Blackpool attack in which Hograth (2 for 16) and Steve Mercer (1 for 19) particularly impressed and the closed on 113 for 4.

Calculators out at Ernest Pass

The calculators were out at Ernest Pass as rain stopped play with Kendal 96 for 8 after 17.2 overs chasing Barrow's 110 for 6. Kendal's run rate (5.539) was superior to Barrow (5.5) by 0.039 of a run.

Skipper Daryl Wearing (28 not out) and Graham Dawson (24) top scored for the home side as Chris Miller and Nick Lewthwaite each took two wickets.
Gareth Ashburner (24) and wicketkeeper Gary Baker (27) were Kendal's main contributors with Dawson taking three for 11.

On Friday 29 May 2010 Chorley entertain Darwen at Windsor Park (6pm).
