DOUBLE SWOOP FOR CHORLEY CRICKET CLUB

New pro and player-coach at Windsor Park

Gaurav Dhar in action for Chorley in 2010

DELIGHTED Chorley Cricket Club officials are celebrating the signing of both a new professional and player/coach for the 2011 season.

Guarav Dhar, who came through the ranks at Chorley before joining the MCC Young Cricketers, has agreed a contract to become the club's professional for next season, while highly rated and vastly experienced Ian Critchley has also put pen to paper on a deal to become player-coach.

Dhar, 23, a genuine all rounder who bowls leg spin as well as being an attacking batsman, is no stranger to Chorley fans, having grown up locally and come through the junior set up.

He represented Lancashire at various junior levels and broke into Chorley's first team at an early age before eventually joining the MCC Young Cricketers squad.

'Gravy' deputised as professional with great success on a number of occasions last season following the early departure of JJ Smuts.

Critchley is a seasoned and highly respected coach who last season was based at Bolton Association side Spring View. Ian, whose brother Mike has played for the club for many years, lives locally and is relishing the prospect of plotting Chorley's revival after a difficult 2010.

"After the disappointment of this year we were committed to acting swiftly to bring in quality support for what is a very young and still developing first team," said delighted club secretary Peter Mockett.

"Chorley is a proud town club with good support and for spectators there is nothing like seeing local players representing their club and we are confident that both will do well on the field.

"Gaurav did very well for us in his stint as sub pro on JJ's departure and deserves his chance, while senior and junior players alike will benefit form the additional coaching that someone as experienced as Ian brings to the club and with our superb crop of young upcoming talent we are confident that we can progress.

"In addition to these signings, the club are actively seeking to bolster the first team squad and hope to announce further signings in the near future.
