Barrow made LCB Lancashire KO progress

Pro Malan shines again with bat and ball

Pieter Malan led the way for Barrow

Barrow made progress in the LCB Lancashire KnockOut as they beat Bolton Association side Elton CC in a first round tie at Ernest Pass.

Last season's League runners-up opted to play in this competition rather than the Cumbria County Cup, having been beaten finalists in the latter in 2010.

Elton were bowled out for 78 with only opener Adam Stansfield putting up much resistance to an impressive all round attack. Stansfield was eighth man out for a fighting 31 but only two other Elton batsmen reached double figures.

Barrow pro Pieter Malan led the way with a spell of three for seven from nine overs with Graham Dawson taking two for 15. Daryl Wearing (two for 15) and left arm spinner Gary Collins (three for 18) completed the demolition job.

Malan, who hit a debut century for Barrow against Netherfield on Saturday continued his fine start to his professional engagement.Though Elton pro Toby Bulcock claimed the wickets of Rob Lightfoot and Liam Livingstone, Malan stood firm and saw Barrow home with a cultured unbeaten 39.Dawson supported Malan with 28 not out as Barrow wrapped up their convincing victory soon after 5pm.

Barrow are at home to Sabri or Hindley St Peter's in round Two.
