The Furness Building Society Northern Premier Cricket League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls) enters the second half of the season on Saturday.

Match of the Day sees leaders St Annes (played 13-140pts) travel to fourth-placed Chorley (12-113). Defending champions Leyland (13-117) are at home to Fleetwood with third-placed Morecambe (12-115) at home to Kendal.

In Division Two leaders and defending champions Leyland (12-149) are at Fleetwood and second placed Chorley (12-129) visit St Annes.

In the Jamie Heywood Twenty20 Cup sponsored by Latham Baxendale Leyland kept alive their hopes of qualifying for Finals Day when they beat Preston by 38 runs at Fox Lane on Tuesday.

Leyland made 127/9 in their 20 overs, T20 captain and pro Brett Pelser top-scoring with 30. Preston pro Saeed Bariwala took 2/23 and three catches and Paul Paynter took 3/27.

In reply Preston were restricted to 89/9, leg-spinner Tayyab Afsar taking 5/15.

Leyland must now beat Chorley away on Friday and better Darwen's run-rate to top South Two group. Darwen scored 666 runs in 105 overs, a run-rate of 6.34. Leyland have so far scored 611 runs in 97 overs, a run-rate of 6.29.

Kendal meanwhile earned their Finals Day appearance after beating Barrow at Shap Road. Kiwi international Jamie How continued his rich vein of form with an unbeaten 74 off 55 balls including four sixes in his side's 153/2. How added 113 for the second wicket with Terry Hunte whose 52 came off only 35 balls and included three sixes.

In reply Barrow were bowled out for 111, pro Pieter Malan making 49 and skipper Chris Miller, Stu Parkin, How and Nick Lewthwaite each taking two wickets. Kendal have won all three games so far and hold an unassailable lead in North One group.

On Sunday Darwen and Morecambe both attempt to progress beyond the regional finals stage of the ECB National Club Championship. In Group 6 Darwen visit Prestwich while in Group 4 Morecambe are at home to Northern.

There is also Lancashire Cup third round action with Blackpool away at Bolton League side Greenmount and Barrow hosts to CLL side Rochdale.

Meanwhile Cumberland attempt to reach a Lord's final when they play Berkshire in the MCCA Trophy semi-final at Falkland CC. Director of Cricket Steve Sharp has chosen an unchanged side from the quarter-final win over Herefordshire which includes six Northern League players: Ikram Ullah and Chris Williams (Morecambe); Graham Dawson and Liam Livingstone (Barrow); Jon Miles (Kendal) and Alex Atkinson (Netherfield).

Cumberland's Championship fixture against Suffolk at Mildenhall was abandoned as a draw when rain washed out the third day's play at 3pm.
