Weekend Preview for 14th and 15th July

By Richard Edmondson

Barrow's Liam Livingstone in action as his side look to get back to winning ways

Up to 5 teams are challenging for the Division One League title, as we enter into a very important weekend in the Northern Cricket League.

DIVISION ONE

The biggest game of the weekend is undoubtedly at Shap Road as 4th placed Kendal entertain league leaders Fleetwood.

Kendal have been in red hot form putting themselves in contention for the Division One title. Jack White and Chris Miller have been in electric form with White taking another 5 wicket haul in victory at Darwen, Miller meanwhile continues to impress after taking 4 at Darwen last weekend.

Fleetwood have been playing well, very much the surprise package of The Northern League, putting themselves at the top of the league.

Its a game neither team will want to lose, for Kendal a victory would seriously push them closer to the top spot, whilst Fleetwood will be looking to extend their lead on the rest of their title rivals.

At Ernest Pass, Barrow will be looking to get out of a bad run of form when they face a potentially tricky encounter with Chorley.

Barrow have suffered over the past few weeks losing to Leyland and then at Blackpool a defeat which knocked them off the top of the league.

Chorley are a difficult team to play as they have improved in recent weeks.

Netherfield travel to West Cliff to play Lukman Vahaluwala's Preston, Netherfield got back to winning ways with a comfortable home win over Morecambe, however they face a difficult contest with Lukman Vahaluwala in top notch form.

Leyland are also in good form, and they will be looking to keep pressing the top 4 when they host Blackpool

For the rest, Morecambe host Carnforth, St Annes host Darwen, whilst Lancaster have the weekend off.

On Sunday it's the Readers Cup as Blackpool host Morecambe with Morecambes 2nds hosting Blackpool's seconds at Woodhill Lane. Who ever wins those ties will play Kendal in the next round with the 1st team hosting Kendal's 1st team, with the 2nd team away at Shap Road.

DIVISION TWO

Barrow travel to Chorley,Netherfield host Preston, Leyland travel to Blackpool, Carnforth face Morecambe and Darwen host St Annes.

Kendal's 2nds are due to travel to play Fleetwood but the pitch was unfit postponing this Sundays Twenty-20 Finals Day, which at a guess may put a doubt over Saturdays second team game.
