THE LEWIS TOMLINSON INTERVIEW

Allington Believes D'Leny Is The Man

Barrow 2nd team captain and former 1st team captain Ian Allington believes Barrow have a chance in both the first and second division this year.

When I asked Allington how he is enjoying the role of second team skipper he said:

"yes, I wasn't sure how I would enjoy it after the intensity of 1st XI cricket, but thoroughly enjoyed trying to pass on some help to the younger lads and encouraging them to play hard but in the right way"

I then went on to ask how he feels Chris D'Leny is doing captaining the 1st team and he had nothing but praise for the young skipper:

"He's got a good cricketing brain, and is a very competetive lad and just wants to do well for Barrow. It's always hard in your 1st season, but from what I saw he began to settle into it more as the season went on, and I'm sure he'll be fine this year, especially as we appear to have a nice balance to the 1st team with the new arrivals."

When Allington was asked if he thinks some of the bowling will improve by bringing in a bowling professional he said:

"I hope so, Shannon is only a young lad, but hopefully his time in the HPC in the WI will have given him some tips and tricks he can pass on. We have some good young bowlers coming through, and along with the coaches we should be able to start pushing them harder.

The 2nd team was about development last year, but I'm hoping to be more competetive this year, and there's no reason why both sides can't be in the mix come September"
