Season Preview: Blackpool Cricket Club

Gleeson turns pro as Blackpool aim high

Blackpool Cricket Club

Blackpool aim for glory in 2013

Captain: Paul Danson, Professional: Richard Gleeson, Last Season Finished 9th

Blackpool's aim for 2013 is to win the league as well as mounting a challenge in all cup competitions.

After losing Professional Dale Deeb at the end of last season, Blackpool have recruited from within and have appointed Richard Gleeson as Club Professional for 2013. Gleeson one of the main stars in the league will be looking to continue his wicket taking exploits for 2013.

The club have also signed Danny Gilbert from Freckleton CC, who is a young medium paced bowler.

Blackpool are also hoping that Andy Hogarth will return after a season at BAC/EE Preston. However Hogarth sustained a knee injury playing football, and is awaiting a scan to see how bad the knee is, this results of the scan will determine wether he will return to the club

Captains View:

"The players and officials at Blackpool are once again looking forward to the new season. As with any new campaign our aim is to win the league and challenge in all the different cup formats.

For one reason or another we tailed off badly last season so it is important we start this season on the front foot. Established players such as John Mounsey, Andy Furniss and Alex Smith will need to contribute on a more regular basis with the bat as we cope with the loss of Dale Deeb.

The Club have appointed Richard Gleeson as Professional. Richard has come through the junior ranks and is the best strike bowler in the league and by giving him the Pro status has been a major reason for keeping him at the club.

More and more clubs are going for home grown Pro's due to costs and availability of overseas players. The league itself has a Premier league (football) feel to it... the haves and the have nots

We have been netting since late January and the sessions are the best I have witnessed during my 17 years with the club.

Credit goes to Richard, Sam Owen and John Caunce for their enthusiasm in organising some varied sessions.

On the playing front we welcome Danny Gilbert from Freckelton CC. Danny is a young medium paced bowler who has impressed everybody at the winter nets sessions and should be pushing for a 1st team slot.

Andy Hogarth is also hoping to return after a season at BAC/EE Preston but this all hinges on the results of scan on an injured knee playing football.

The 2nd XI will be led by Sam Owen following Kevin Reid's decision to step down and at the end of last season. The team will have a youthful look to it as we try and blood some of our talented younger players.

Hopefully some of them will get some 1st team action over the coming season which will stand them in good stead for years to come."
