Season Preview: Morecambe Cricket Club

Morecambe Cricket Club

Improvement the key for 2013

Captain: Lewis Edge, Professional: Vishal Tripahti, Last Season Finished: 8th

For Morecambe its a case of improving on last seasons 8th placed finish. In 2012, Morecambe had a hit and miss season, however they were heavily affected by the weather and the condition of their Woodhill Lane surface.

Morecambe go into 2013 with a new professional in Vishal Tripahti after orignally announcing the re signing of Umar Amin, as yet they haven't signed anyone else, but that may change as pre season goes on.

They also go into the new campaign with Lewis Edge staying on as Captain with Gareth Pedder his vice Captain.

Captains View:

"We are all looking forward to the season ahead, from when our winter nets started in the first week of January, everybody has come back fit and raring to go.

Last season was a bit of an up and down season for us, mostly because of the weather and the condition of our ground, but the lads have put a lot of hours on the ground through the winter, and its looking very certain that we will not have the same drainage problems as last year.

We have obviously lost Umar as pro from last year which was a big disappointment, but due to call ups etc, it was simply not worth him re-signing.

But every cloud has a silver lining and we signed Vishal Tripathi in Umar's place. Having seen his stats, and already talked through some of his ideas, it is obvious Vishal will be a great signing for us, not only on the field but off it as well, he is a quality player, and he is as raring to go as much as anyone.

We have not officially signed anyone else just yet, but we have had over 9 new players net with us over the winter, as soon as we get those signing the paperwork, you will be first to know, but we are confident within the next 2/3 weeks we will have a few new faces which will only make us stronger.

On losing players, we have not lost any players, with having a young side, the boys know that each year we perform at this level, the more improvements we will make, not only as individuals but as a squad as well.

As vice captain Gaz Pedder will play a big part next season, we all know what a quality player he is, and would be first name on any team sheet in, lets hope he can get back to his Carnforth form, if he does we will not lose many games.

As for next season, I don't want to be making predictions saying were going to win the league.

All I hope is that we improve every game, and give our all, last season we let winnable games, slip away from us far to many times, this year I would like us to be difficult to beat like the Morecambe teams of old and have some consistency, the signing of Vishal and a few more new faces will already improve our chances of doing this. Hopefully if we can do this, we will certainly be competing for some silverware, but im sure every captain will be saying that.

The Northern League is one of the best leagues in this part of the country and the standard is getting better and better each season, but if we stick to our goals, and perform to the standards we expect and we have set for each other, then im sure we will win more games than we will lose."
