An Interview with Kelly Smuts by Richard Edmondson

Kelly Smuts in action

A few weeks before the start of the 2014 season Morecambe Cricket Club signed South African all rounder Kelly Smuts as their Club Professional for the season.

Kelly is a left handed bat and a right arm medium paced bowler, since joining Morecambe he has taken 40 wickets, with his best figures of 5-29, whilst with the bat he has scored 753 runs, scoring 1 century and 4 half centuries

I caught up with Kelly who gave me his thoughts on how he is finding life in The Northern Cricket League

"I have really enjoyed my time at Morecambe,They are a great bunch of guys who have been very welcoming and friendly towards me.

I struggled at the beginning of the season as it was my first season over in the UK. So it took me a while to get used to the conditions.

The fact that we had 4 rained off games in the first didn't help as i was trying to build a rhythm. But since then I have picked up some consistency with bat and ball.

Obviously I would love to finish the season well with a batting average over 50, whilst I would also like to take 50 wickets.

More importantly if I can help the team to get three wins from the last five games, and move up the league table that would be fantastic.

This is a very competitive league with most clubs evenly matched"
