Chorley bestow Honourary Life Membership

AUSTRALIAN cricket chief James Sutherland has expressed his honour and delight after accepting honorary life membership of Chorley Cricket Club.

The decision to offer the honour was made unanimously by the Winsor Park committee as a mark of thanks for the work James has done for the club, and he confirmed his acceptance this week.

"It truly is such an honour and I ask that you please thank each of your committee members for bestowing this life membership on me," he said in an email from Melbourne.

James was professional at Windsor Park in 1991 and when his playing days ended, he began a successful career in cricket administration which culminated in him being appointed Chief Executive of Cricket Australia and the sport's foremost figure Down Under.

"I have always been very proud of my association with Chorley Cricket Club," he said.

"The Club and its members have always remained close to my heart and the summer of 1991 was a season that I remember with great affection and happiness.

"I have no doubt that the primary reason for that is the manner in which the Chorley people welcomed me to their town and their club.

"Thank you again for this wonderful honour, and I look forward to thanking you and others in person at Windsor Park in the not too distant future.

"Thank you once again for this wonderful honour."

James has retained his links with Chorley throughout his subsequent career and the club was honoured that he agreed to speak at a fundraising evening at the Little Hong Kong restaurant last summer.

The event proved hugely successful and raised a significant sum for the appeal to fund the new pavilion and dressing room facilities at Windsor Park.

The club would like to remind everyone that senior pre-season nets start on Wednesday January 29th at Bishop Rawstorne School in Croston, 8pm-9.30pm. New players welcome. Contact the club for more info.
