Lancaster Cricket Club Season Preview

Lancaster Skipper Ben Simm is looking to build on an impressive 2013 campaign where they finished 3rd in the league, as his team embarks on what promises to be one of the most exciting seasons in a long time.

The team from Lune Road were the surprise package of 2013, surprising most sides in the league, pulling off some huge wins. For 2014 the one big change has been with their professional, where they signed Michael Barry as their overseas player for 2014. Barry was brought in after Jannisar Kahn opted not to return.

Ben Simm gives his thoughts on the season ahead for Lancaster CC

"I am looking forward to the season, I think this year has the potential to be the best in a long time. It is wide open this year and it is hard to guess who will be lifting the league trophy come September.

From our point of view we are looking to build on our successful year in 2013. Although it was nice to be challenging for the league for a long time we couldn't quite last the season out.

It has been a long time since we won a trophy so that will be the main aim of the season along with making sure we are not a one season wonder as far as challenging in the league is concerned as a couple of teams have done recently. We have had a few ins and outs but nothing major as far as amateurs are concerned.

We are a young side made up of mostly local players/Lancaster lads that have real passion about the club and cricket and it seems to be paying dividends so we will be sticking with that formula

The main difference is the overseas player. It will be a massive change for us going from Jannisar to Michael. It was disappointing when I found out Jani will not be returning as he is a very good friend and great player.

I could have not been happier with the signing of Michael though. He is young, outgoing and a quality cricketer who consistently performs. These were exactly the attributes we were looking for and I know he cant wait to get going."
