Darwen Cricket Club Season Preview

Darwen skipper Jordan Clarke, is looking forward to the new campaign as he aims to build on last season

The team from Birch hall had a mixed 2013 campaign, However they finished as runners up in the Twenty/20 to Netherfield , knocking out Fleetwood in the semi finals.

Darwen have made two changes for this season, with South African George Linde coming in as professional, whilst they also see the return of Kamran Anwar.

Gareth Cordingley however will not feature this season, as he has retired from the game

Jordan gave me his thoughts on the new campaign saying

" I am really looking forward to the start of the new season, Last year was my first taste as captain, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hopefully now with that extra bit of experience we can kick on this season. for the last few years we have been building on our youngsters coming through the teams, including myself. now we are in a position where people can start taking responsibility and not rely on a more senior member to get us through games.

This season also sees the return of Kamran Anwar, who had a good year for Cherry Tree as professional . we are delighted he has decided to return to Darwen where I played with him all the way through the Juniors. he is going to bring a great deal with bat, ball and fielding.

I have also appointed him as my vice captain this year. he is a clever cricketer and i know he has given everyone a lift around the club.

Gareth Cordingley will not feature this year due to retirement. He has been a Darwen Legend, scoring over 10,000 league runs during his career. we will definatley miss Gareth's experience and expertise but hopefully it can pave the way for a younger lad to step up in his place.

We have secured George Linde from South Africa as professional . George won the League with Lytham in 2012 so we are hoping he can bring that winning mentality we were perhaps missing at times last year. he is a strong hitter of the bowl and left arm orthadox. we have heard good things from a number of people, so we are very excited for his arrival.

I would like to think we can build on last year, we had a good Twenty/20 run, getting to the final but perhaps could have been a couple of places higher. I believe we have the players to challenge most teams in the league this year."
