Preview for weekend 9th and 10th August

The fight for the Division One and Division Two League titles re commences this weekend, whilst the second Readers Cup Semi Final also takes place where the winners face St Annes in the final, in a very important weekend of action for The Northern League.

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool face a difficult game at Kendal as they look to further increase their lead at the top of Divison One. Paul Danson's team continue to set the pace, their cause further helped by victory at Lancaster last weekend in one of few games to survive the weather. This was further helped by Leylands game with Kendal getting rained off

Christi Viljeon will be in confident mood especially after taking 9 wickets last Saturday. However Kendal will be a tough test, Stu Parkin's team are an unpredictable side, they have alot of good players, whilst New Zealand Professional Jamie How has been in red hot form with the bat as he continues to dominate the batting stats in Division One. Kendal will be confident especially after beating Blackpool in The Readers Cup 1/4 finals a few weeks ago.

Blackpool know that victory at Kendal would further solidify their position as League leaders as the season gradually starts to wind down to its conclusion.

League Holders Leyland travel to Morecambe this Saturday as they look to close the gap on Blackpool. Leyland were frustrated with the rain last weekend but face a Morecambe side that have picked up some big wins over Darwen and Netherfield this season.

The form of Luis Reece continues to improve after batting well last weekend, whilst Overseas Amateur Alex Ross, continues to shine

Morecambe's South African Professional Kelly Smuts has also been in good form, whilst Yakub Bhamji will be looking to build on his 5 wicket haul from last weekends game against Netherfield.

In the other matches their is still plenty to play for as league placings are up for grabs with Daryl Wearing's Barrow hosting Fleetwood at Ernest Pass.

Both teams have had at best a very mixed season up to this point,Its all about finishing as high up the league ladder as possible and victory for either side would give them momentum for the rest of the campaign. Star players such as Sam Dutton, Kaustubh Pawar, will be on show for the hosts, whilst the likes of Adam Parker, and JP De Villiers will be in action for the visitors.

Andrew Holdsworth's Chorley will be looking to reproduce their cup form into the league as they host Penrith at Windsor Park. Chorley will be in confident mood after progressing in the National knock out Competition following victory over York. Chorley are certainly the cup specialists as their form ignites in knockout competitions, whilst in the league they show inconsistency. If they can produce their cup form in the league they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Penrith's first season in Division One has been steady, they have had a fair few games rained off, however they have also put in some good performances and have acquitted themselves well for their first season.

At West Cliff Preston host Darwen. Preston saw their game at Netherfield rained off after being in a winning position. Saeed Bariwala's team are a hard team to predict, you never know what type of performance they are going to produce. Jibran Kahn has been in great form, whilst Sajid Patel impressed with a half century at Netherfield last weekend, Their bowling attack can be dangerous with Andrew Starkie spearheading the attack.

Darwen have had a good season, certainly a massive improvement on 2013. Last time out Darwen played was 2 weeks ago when they got a winning draw at Kendal only to lose to the Lancashire Colts in dramatic fashion on the Sunday. George Linde has impressed in his first season as Professional at the club.

In the final game, St Annes host Lancaster, the home team looking to continue their run of form following league and cup victories last weekend. Lancaster looking for form and a strong finish to the season.

READERS CUP REVIEW:

Sunday sees the second semi final take place at Shap Road as Kendal host The Lancashire Colts. The winners go through to the final where they will play St Annes. Kendal know that victory would mean that they host the final, However if they were to lose the final will be played at St Annes as The Lancashire Colts don't have a home ground

This is a big game for both teams, Kendal have won this competition before, whilst The Lancashire Colts will be keen to progress in whats their last season in the Northern Cricket League. The Colts have a strong squad, and will provide a tough challenge for Kendal. Kendal on the other hand will be desperate to host the final as they look for silverware.

REGIONAL TWENTY/20 FINALS

Netherfield face Northern in The Second Semi Final at 1pm in The Regional Twenty-20 Competition. the Finals are held at Bradshaw Cricket Club of the Bolton League. The winners face either Bradshaw or Norden of The Central Lancashire League in the Final.

DIVISION TWO:

In Division Two its First v Second as Leyland host current holders Morecambe. Leyland know that victory would put them one step closer to success, however Morecambe on the other hand need the win desperatly as they look to retain their crown. Morecambe also face bottom side Preston on Sunday and two wins in two days would propel them closer to retaining their trophy.

As for the rest of Division Two, Blackpool host Kendal, Darwen entertain Preston,Lancaster face St Annes, Penrith entertain Chorley and Fleetwood host Barrow on Sunday.
