Leyland Cricket Club Season Preview

Alex Ross Leyland CCS New Over seas Player

Leyland go into season 2014 looking to defend their league title following on from their dramatic success from last season.

Skipper David Makinson shared his thoughts on the season ahead

" As the season approaches, the usual discussions take place of who the new Pro's are, which players have moved clubs and for what reason, and of course, who is going to be challenging for trophies.

Our record over the last 4 years, particularly in the League, suggest that we would hope to be challenging once again. The likely loss of Luis Reece for most of the season will obviously affect our batting,

but the addition of Alex Ross, our overseas player from Adelaide, who has been in magnificent form recently, will hopefully cover this. Two other significant absentees are WK Adam Coates, who has retired, and Dale Jones, who is taking a year off. Their absence means that the 2nd oldest player in the 1st team is now only 26.

Luckily we have a group of lads in that age group (Andrew Makinson, Karl Cross, Chris Parkinson and James Rounding) who have played 1st Div. cricket for 10 years now and experienced quite a bit of success.

With the even younger lads Danny Lamb, Henry Thompson, Nathan McDonnell and Tayab Afsar all havin made significant contributions already and capable of much more,

I look forward to seeing the improvements they have made. I reckon cricketers are at their best from mid to late 20's to mid 30's so our lads should still have their best years ahead of them.

Taking all this into account I'll be disappointed if we aren't challenging for honours, but I'm sure most sides will be saying the same thing, especially those who have added players who appear to have a decent pedigree."
