Leyland overseas player not available

Australian all-rounder Alex Keath, who was set to join us as our overseas player, will be unable to play for us in the 2014 season. Alex has been called up to the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane and is required to train there over the Australian close season.

First team captain David Makinson was disappointed Alex wouldn't be coming to Leyland. He said, "Obviously it is unfortunate that Alex can't play for us, however this represents a great opportunity in his career and shows just how highly regarded he is by Cricket Australia.

Alex called me from Melbourne to relay the bad news personally. He was upset not to be able to come over as he had heard many good things about the club and the Northern League. It was clear from our conversation that he is a level headed young man who is determined to do well in the game; I will monitor his progress with interest.

We will now turn our attention to looking for another overseas player and hope to be able to make an announcement by the end of the month."
