Northern League Preview for Weekend 18th April

The 2015 Northern Cricket League Season gets underway this Saturday in what promises to be one of the most competitive seasons.

Division 1

All Teams in the Division have strengthened as they aim to make a charge for the Northern Cricket League title.

Defending League champions Blackpool have retained the same squad last season, the bowling attack of Christi Viljeon and Richard Gleeson was one of the most dominating bowling attacks throughout their title winning year.

The team from Stanley Park begin the defence of their crown with a potentially tricky encounter with Netherfield.

Netherfield who had an inconsistent 2014, have pretty much kept the same squad as last season, however they do bring in Dieter Klein as Club Professional, whilst Rick Potter also comes in to replace Ben Phillips who was unable to return due to work.

At Vernon Road, St Annes entertain Darwen, both sides have eyes for the big prize, however Darwen who finished in the top 3 last season have had a disruptive off season as they have fought hard to bring in a Professional.

Once the Team from Birch Hall heard that last seasons paid man George Linde was unable to return, they quickly moved for Yassin Vallie.

However after announcing the signing they then found out that Vallie was unable to join them. This spurred them into action and they signed Pakistani Sami Aslam.

Aslam though will not be available till mid May due to him being called up to The Pakistani Twenty/20 squad.

St Annes and Andy Kellett will look forward to seeing South African Xander Pitchers make his debut, replacing Toby Bulcock.

In the other games, Kendal and Lancaster go head to head at Shap Road, with both sides keen to improve from a largely disappointing 2014 campaign.

Kendal who see Chris Miller take over the captaincy from Stu Parkin hope to welcome new South African professional Eldred Hawkins. They also see former Preston captain Saeed Bariwala make his debut.

Lancaster who are looking to replicate their top 4 finish in 2013, will look forward to seeing Rameez Raja as they hope he will spur them into an improving season.
